We came up for the weekend to stay in Kachina Village. We went to here because we didn't want to drive to Flagstaff proper for dinner. The wait staff was very pleasant, and helpful. They even brought a plate of popcorn for our kids so they had something to munch on while waiting for the food. The food was... not good. The pizza tasted like something that I would make at home with a take-and-bake crust and Ragu pizza sauce. A slightly Packers themed hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere, fifteen minutes from Flagstaff. Hot food, cold drinks, pool table, and general store next door. Decent bar food menu. Good pizza for eat in or carry out. Good wings and burgers too. Cash only, but ATM onsite. Nothing fancy, beer and basic cocktails. But reasonably priced and great vibe and friendly people if you're wearing plaid. Reminds me of deer camps and fish houses. You may hear banjo music - at least in your head along with the voices. Food was okay, my husband got the steak sandwich and it came with a whole steak in between 2 slices of toast, not sliced or anything and the steak had zero flavor. We were pretty unhappy with this place as we waited over an hour for 4 meals that were all pretty similar. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizer and got like 5 onion rings and it costed $14. Then we waited another 20 or so minutes for our food and it was honestly not worth the wait at all and then having to assemble our own sandwiches and burgers had us confused as to why it took so long and there were not very many people in there at the time either. Stopped in with a few friends on our way of out town. Great local spot with a real hometown vibe. The food isn't anything to rave about but the atmosphere and friendly locals were more than enough to have a good time while downing some local brews and watching the game. At one point the poor bartender was slammed with over 20 people at once. SUPER RUDE!!!! Came in with a large party on our way out of town and experience was nice at first. She took our drink orders but skipped over two of us. This wasn't a big deal and so I figured I'd just save her a secondary trip and walked to the bar to order the Diet Pepsi's and she gave me a death stare as if I've said something so incredibly rude and appalling. The whole rest of our experience she would not acknowledge me and if she did, would not make eye contact and would roll her eyes after I spoke. By far the rudest service experience I've ever had. Mountainaire Tavern is definitely a hidden gem of a dive bar/restaurant that I never would have know about if a Munds Park neighbor didn't mention it... We were staying with friends in nearby Munds Park and were looking for a lunch spot and a bit of adventure. We had use of an ATV so we rode that all the way to Mountainaire to round out the experience. It was super fun! Bess was our server/bartender and took good care of us. We also had a pleasant surprise that since the Packers won the game yesterday, the owner of Mountainaire bought a round at the bar for the patrons that were there at the time. Thank you for that! As you'll see from the photos I took, we had a bit of everything. I never would have imagined that this place had decent kids meals, but they did! The veggie plate was surprisingly fresh and delicious and a hit amongst our group as well! This place is a cash only dive bar off the beaten path, but has a ton of charm and some decent grub too. I love this place. So many people don't seem to know about it and it has what I am told the best hamburgers around not to mention fantastic pizza. So to start I have been coming in here for years and the quality of the food has never wavered. It is a small "townie" type bar that is always welcoming. If you stay over the weekend they have a spacious patio and most Sundays have a great band. Just check with the bartender. Sunday morning they serve breakfast as well and you will not be disappointed. It is cash only but they have an ATM that charges a nominal fee for your money. The drink prices are also right on. I recommend definitely checking them out on your way to or from Flag. Take the Mountainaire/ Kachina exit and go the direction of Mountainaire, follow the curves about a 1/4 mile down the road and you will find this quaint cool place on the right! And enjoy! read more

I quite normally would post 4 stars based on good eats and atmosphere, but the service was just unbelievably poor. We entered and only one local patron was present. Not a greeting or hello and then we asked about seating, she said sit anywhere. We soon found the environment unpleasant and went outside. She would not bring out the food (no food delivers outside) even though there was no one there. Arg. So unfriendly to us, yet chatty with the locals. The veggies were awesome and the beer cold. The Mountainaire Tavern is an old school spot with some great attitude. Inside you'll be greeted with what feels like a small community dive bar which is all of what's great about this place. FOOD: The food here is cooked by a husband and wife in the back that are a great team. Sometimes it takes a little while to get the food out, but that's why you buy drinks in the meantime! The deep fried veggies are an awesome snack if you have a few friends/family members with you. Overall the food is decent and worth a try. The drinks are also great here. My dad and I each had a bacon, lettuce & tomato sandwich with very little bacon or tomatoes. The bacon was crisp though and did taste good. The sandwich was dry, but they did provide condiments. My brother had a chili cheese burger and said it was tasteless. All of our food was cold. The lady said they had a new cook. I told her my sandwich was the worst I'd ever had in any restaurant; she didn't charge me for it. The prices were what you would expect for the area not too bad. read more

Before I start saying how wonderful this little place is, let me say that this restaurant is CASH ONLY but they do have an ATM inside. The interior was a bit dark for us, but as a tavern we expected as much. This tavern is quite small, but the food packs a big punch... I got a warm and melty ham and cheese sub with fresh "house fries" which are deep fried potato slices. My dieting mom liked them because they weren't super greasy, and still tasted like fresh potatoes. They didn't cut me short on the ham on my sandwich, which was thick and sweet ham, melted Swiss cheese on a warm Swiss roll. Oh my gosh was that bun good. My family of four was able to eat our lunches for close to 40$ and very much enjoyed our meals. Mountainaire Tavern is one of those little places in the middle of nowhere that look sketchy from the outside, but have phenomenal service and quality in the inside. read more

Stayed in this beautiful area and while we didn't know we were a little ways from downtown this bar is exactly what I needed. It is a cash only bar but the prices are reasonable. I didn't eat anything here but I did have some drinks. The people in the bar were friendly and so were the bartenders. If you're staying in the area it's even walking distance and the hours are good! I came here twice and the second time was with my crying baby. The nice man let me change her and didn't hesitate to show me the bathroom. There's no changing table and it's tiny but was so thankful he let us use that with out giving me a hard time of not being able to stay and eat or drink that day.
