First bite was tasty but somewhere between crunchy and rubbery which is not what you ever want in your lasagna. I told our server and they asked me what they could get me instead and I opted for spaghetti and meatballs. There were three meatballs and a small amount of spaghetti. The meatballs were great and the pasta was El Dente but the pasta portion was small. I reviewed the bill when I got home and realized that while they credited me for the lasagna, they charged me for the replacement spaghetti and meatballs. No bueno! The other 5 in our party seemed satisfied but the switcheroo between the bad lasagna and the better spaghetti left a bad taste in my mouth. So, small portions, big prices and their policy for rectifying a kitchen mistake includes penalizing the customer for complaining by charging them for their replacement meal.

It was early like 8:30 or so, I can't say how busy this place gets, there's a large room in the back that apparently used to have a pool table. I think they might have live music sometimes back there. Bartender was friendly, I think he said Steve was his name. He said he makes his old fashioned with the sugar cube still which isn't done by many, it's kind of old timey or divey but it works. It's closer to the original recipe he said. I saw he had a bottle of Luxardo, which is a maraschino cherry spirit, and I have a bottle at home but never know what to make or have enough things so I asked him to make me something with it, he opted for a last word since his bar had green chartreuse. Gin, luxardo, chartreuse, and lime make this lovely cocktail. Our drinks were great and at $12 each, a spirit forward deal! I would definitely come back and have another round of drinks here. This is not a fancy place and I didn't read the other reviews but I have no reason not to give 5 stars, it's a good dive bar that I enjoyed.

UNFORTUNATELY, the execution of the Rucola pie fell short on fundamental balance. After finishing a 7-mile hike, we were eager for a well crafted pizza. What arrived was a red sauce base overwhelmed by a mountain of raw arugula and shaved parmesan, lacking any melted cheese structure. NO CHEESE! WHY THOUGH?? A melted cheese layer provides crucial savory depth and acts as a moisture barrier. Without it, the wet sauce saturated the dough, rendering an otherwise stellar crust soggy and unseasoned (we had to request salt to bring out any flavor). It ultimately felt like a salad served over softened bread rather than a cohesive pie. When we provided feedback, the response was polite but indifferent. While the foundation is clearly there, the balance was completely off. I'd consider giving them another chance with a different pie, but Flagstaff has too many incredible pizza joints to settle for soggy bread. I'll post a follow-up review if I go back.

Since my last review, the owner has done a good job of correcting his employees' mistakes. A friend of mine who was wrongfully thrown out two years ago was welcomed back by the owner. Since then, this friend has gone to Hops regularly without any trouble from the staff. That is, until recently. The other day, some employees asks my friend to leave the bar without giving any reason for this request. When the staff was asked why he was being forced out, they refused to answer. This kind of behavior on the part of the bar staff is unacceptable and may even be against the law. On top of that, one female server was seen drinking with other customers, and she seemed pretty drunk at the time. In fact, she was one of the same servers who tried to throw my friend out without cause. Now I don't need to tell you how unprofessional it is for servers to drink with customers while on duty. But that's not important right now. The important thing is that there was no reason for anyone to be chasing my friend out of the bar. The law says that people can only be thrown out of bars if, during their bar visit, they are: drunk, lewd, violent, boisterous, or anything else that rises to the level of being drunk, lewd, violent, or boisterous. But my friend was none of those things. And yet the servers at Hops kicked him out anyway. Only this time, my friend never got a response back after complaining to the owner. Does this sound like the type of place you'd want to go for a night out? I think not. Judging by some of the other recent reviews of this place, my friend and I are definitely not alone in thinking that way. read more

HOB had my favorite IPA on tap, (Ninkasi Total Domination). Started chatting with the staff and wound up also meeting the owner, very friendly nice people. Suggested dinner at another local brewery. Been here a couple of times, the atmosphere is nice, and is dog friendly. The first time here the service was not very good but the selection of beers and the fact you can taste them first is a plus. The second time around the service was better and the beers were changed so I got to taste a couple more before I chose which one to drink. Holy moley this place is amazing! I feel like I'm walking into an old bar back in England. The beers are perfect! The bartenders are all very knowledgeable in their beers and it is always great to see that there are still bars that can remain classy even with the rowdiest of crowds. Bring your dog, drink a beer, sit on their patio (which is pretty small, so get there early!). It's right off the street - but you can park in the neighborhood if you want to stay and not pay for parking. Very nice staff - and a huge selection - you can stare at the menu for 10 minutes before deciding. read more
