Clean and tidy and located in a mall on the edge of town with plenty of parking. Our server was ridiculously cheerful and bouncy. Drinks were fine, but food (we both had burgers) wasn't great. To start with, it showed up very quickly. Can't have been more than a couple of minutes between ordering and receiving food. Even our server was startled when she came over to refill drinks (food order was brought by a different staff member). Felt and tasted like they'd been cooked well in advance and just assembled into burgers at order time - wasn't time for them to have been cooked. I had tots with my meal, which were burned and over oiled...again felt like they'd been sitting for a while. I had a burger today and asked for a gluten free bun as I am gluten intolerant. A few hours after thinking I had the softest gluten free bun ever made (shame on me for being too trusting of people), I can safely say the fine folks at this establishment gave me a regular bun, and I'm now paying dearly for it. Get: Tempura Pickles Garlic Fries Tomato Basil Grilled Cheese I really didn't want to like Hop Jack's as much as I did. It simply DOES NOT make sense that they wowed me to such an extent. And yet, here we are. Between the excellent service our large family recieved, the food that made everyone happy, and the local-sourced (White Bluffs) beer served at temperature, I could scarcely find a complaint. But this goes against everything that makes sense in this world. You don't give Red Robin a 5 star rating. You don't give Bob's Burgers a 5 star rating. These are chains! Chains revel in mediocrity! WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS WORLD!?!?! But there it is. We had a great dining experience which I hope to replicate many times. And unlike the other two restaurants mentioned - which have their merits - Hop Jacks had some killer food that is hard to find at other dining spots. The tempura pickles were crunchy, tangy coins of dynamite. The garlic fries were thickly covered with big chunks of sauteed garlic - and with really tasty fries. Eating the Tomato Basil Grilled Cheese is as exciting as being David Hasslehoff during the peak of Night Rider. Everyone envies you and rightfully so. It's a delicious and not-too-heavy sandwich. Other items that were ordered at our table were all well-recieved: Fish tacos (2 tacos off the Happy Hour menu, which was plenty), Buffalo Chicken Wrap (creamy buffalo sauce - not overpowering), Macaroni and Cheese 410 (good flavor, served in a skillet with garlic pita bread), and Chocolate Cake (don't judge me). For some reason, I did not order Nachos which, alongside a Reuben, is my measuring stick for a restaurant. So, alas, I will have to revisit this location and solidfy my judgement. Last weekend My man and I went out for my birthday to celebrate at Hops and drops. Our waitress Adrianna was more than wonderful she was so full of life, she made our experience a rememberable one. She did an excellent job from beginning to end, she ensured that we didn't have to wait long before checking in on us or her other tables. We enjoyed our drinks, food, the atmosphere but most of all, her ability to bring a fun positive energy throughout her entire section. My man and I noticed that Everytime she left our table she would make sure to check on all of her others and she gave them the same amount of fun positive energy as she did us. We look forward to tomorrow back to see her again and we recommend to anyone reading this to enjoy hops and drops as much as we did. Also, it would hurt to ask to be in her section if you want the same experience as we had. Lastly, this wasn't our first time to hops and drops Everytime we have gone, Everytime we have gone we have enjoyed our experience with the staff, the atmosphere, the delicious food and the amazing drinks. Just moved to the area and stopped in to check this place out. Staff were super friendly and made us feel so welcome. They explained that their menu is fresh. We ordered drinks, an appetizer and split a burger. They actually spilt the burger and delivered the food on two plates which is really nice as a lot of restaurants won't do that. Except for me all I wanted was the chicken avocado salad, what I got was some weird steak or ground beef kind of taco salad with weird grilled ones. I ordered it last time and it was delicious. My first visit was a pleasant experience due to the excellent bartendress. Unfortunately on my second visit (the very next day) the staff seemed more concerned with closing duties than serving. This is a common problem that potentially great restaurants and bars overlook all too frequently. In their zeal to save money on the most controllable business expense (payroll) they sabotage the business. Restaurant owners take note! The experience comes first. Closing should always take place after closing time... Also TV placement is important in any sports bar, horrendous in this case. Two visits so far The good: extensive menu. The burgers are cooked medium and made with good beef. Garlic fries and donuts are a must. Ice tea is good too (it's rare to find good ice tea). Really pleased with the food. The mediocre: Regional craft beer only. Please get something outside Central and Eastern Washington. We get the these beers everywhere. It's cool to support the local guys, but not every tap. The service needs help, but it's new and they will get it, I hate to even bring it up. The bad: only American light lagers (coors, bud, miller, etc) should be served at 34 degrees. Lighter ales should be in the mid 40's (Kolsch, blonde, cream), and everything else should be around 50F. Waiters touting the 34 degree serving temp of all beer makes beer nerds cringe! Please learn proper beer and ale serving etiquette. (Cicerone.org) Hops are in your name, and the place is beer-centric, so learn the product. Loud, man it's loud! Please invest in sound dampening columns and ceiling panels, wall treatments, etc. The architect really missed the mark on acoustics. read more

This was my family's first visit to Hop Jacks. It was very busy, on a Saturday at about 1pm. We were seated within five minutes and the service overall was good. The first thing I noticed when I walked in is how loud it was, it by far beats the Kennewick Red Robin for loudest restaurant in the Tri-Cities. We liked that they had a decent gluten free menu for our daughter with celiac, but a kids gluten free menu would have been nice at least for families like ours. I know that kind of thing isn't expected at a restaurant, but for families with kids with allergies and other dietary restrictions, it is a great luxury! My wife and I had the chicken quesadilla appetizer and it was fantastic and could have been a meal in itself for us to split. I ordered the BBQ Mac and Cheese and it was okay. I like the BBQ sauce they use, but I think the meat is food service and is heated up (they have a Hormel logo on their menu) and their in-house made mac and cheese was bland. Ironically, the only option in my entrée that I don't think came from a bag would have been better if it had. They seemed a little over priced compared to their local competitors (Bob's, Sterlings, Red Robin, Applebee's, etc), but not by much. Usually my family of four will have a $35-$40 check at Red Robin or Applebee's and maybe $45 at Bob's, but it was $50 here at Hop Jacks. Their happy hour looked to have some good prices on some of their food, if you want to save some cash to try this place out, that might be a good time to visit. My kids liked it and we would visit again, but I probably wouldn't get one their mac and cheese dishes. Edit: My family and I have been here multiple times now and it has become our new favorite. I wanted to like Hop Jack's because new places in the Tri-Citites? A+ However, after last night, I'm a bit shell-shocked to even want to go back again. We were two of a party of 15, and we sat on the patio (because well, the inside with that many people is just asking for trouble). We were the last to arrive, and everyone had ordered their drinks, so we ordered drinks and food at the same time. I got the Chicken Tender salad which I've had at least 3-4 other times previously. It has crispy chicken tenders, bacon, diced egg, tomatoes, cheese, and lettuce. So when the server (we had multiple) brought out mine and my friend's salads, first thing was that I had specified ranch dressing but had been given honey mustard dressing. That was no big deal, I just re-asked for it. Before they could even bring it out though, I finally used my fork to move around some of the stuff and found corn and bell peppers and onions.. what they call baja veggies. I stopped one of two male waiters we had and presented the mistake to him. I don't think I was rude, just I don't normally send back food. Usually I can suck it up, but I had not eaten all day and had my heart set on that salad. It's super delicious! He was understanding and said he'd take it back to have it remade. Great! Well then a couple minutes later, out comes another male waiter. He approaches me and asks if I had requested any modifications to my salad. I had said no, other than wanting ranch instead of honey mustard. He proceeded to tell me that the salad comes with baja veggies. I said no, I've had it a number of times before and it's never had it. That it does not state it on the menu. So what does he do? "Let me go grab a menu and we can go over it together, okay?" Okay... but the point was I didn't want them on my salad. Even if he was right, I had told him and the other waiter that I did not want them. Why should it matter whether it's there or not? I'm not one to say 'the customer is always right' because TRUST ME I've worked in retail since I was 17, I know that's not the case. However, this is food and people have preferences. So then he comes out with a menu, just scans it and then hands it to me to see the description. I re-read it, and then pointed to it and go, "That one right there. It does not state that it comes with those veggies." And he looks at it, looks at me with a blank look and just goes.. "....so you don't want them?" I said no thanks, and he nods and goes inside. One, he was extremely rude and condescending, acting as if I couldn't read, and that I needed to look at the menu again. And then secondly when I proved him wrong, he didn't even have the decency to apologize to me for the mishap. Most human beings would have had the decency to apologize, and most places would have offered the meal for free for the inconvenience; neither was done. So yes, one experience can ruin it for you. I wasn't overly impressed with some of their food (fries are too salty, chicken wrap tastes like one they sell at a store in the deli case) is mediocre. But some friends like it and I had found something I'd loved. Now I really am not sure I even want to go back. read more

In opening this review, I must first say that I don't think my review can even give justice to what a positive experience we enjoyed. Entrance We were greeted kindly by the hostess, and placed on the waiting list. We were told that it may be 10-15 minutes for our table; it took less than 5. Seating We were sat down by the hostess and quickly greeted by the server, Taylor. Taylor was extremely kind from the start, and despite the restaurant being extremely crowded (it was a Saturday night) did not rush us in choosing our drinks and food. Dining The food was delicious! We enjoyed the homemade mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce and ranch -- one could taste the freshness of the mozzarella! -- along with the jalapeño burger with tots (him) and tomato basil grilled cheese with salad (her). He REALLY enjoyed the burger, and said it was surprisingly spicy. (Must have been the fresh jalapeños!) I really enjoyed the grilled cheese and the (fresh) tomato and basil atop it. The salad was good quality for a side salad, and the tots were delicious. Recommendation He said that the bacon was a bit chewy, teetering on the line between cooked and undercooked. Aim for super crispy on the bacon, as that's the perfect burger topper! Thoughts In addition to Taylor being incredibly sweet and attentive, we were fortunate enough to meet 8 other staff members while we were dining. They always came to the table when Taylor wasn't around; one to deliver our meal, one to offer a refill on my huckleberry lemonade (oh yeah, I forgot -- that tasted EXCELLENT), one to ask us if we needed anything, etc. I think they just wanted to look at all of my beau's tattoos, but hey, at least they were friendly about it! Conclusion Hop Jack's has scrumptious food, very kind staff, and a fun, laid back environment. We will absolutely be back! Both of us were eyeing other menu items, and we cannot wait to try them. Yuck. Went back to the kitchen. Came back ok. I had the morning burger. It too was undercooked. Only problem was I was half way into it when I noticed. A side of fries. Stingy amount. Don't bother with the food here. The price for quality and quantity of food is subpar. It's trussed up bar food. It's redeeming features are the service and drinks. The wait staff were friendly, fast, and they take the time to train new hires properly without tossing them to the sharks first night out. The drinks are what makes this place worth going to. They give it to you in a little mini shaker - super cute. And an ice cup. The ice cup is in another plastic cup to catch the water as it melts so don't worry about the mess. My experience was so-so. It wasn't all that busy and the servers still had a hard time getting to us. We ordered our appetizer and it came out warm, not hot, but warm. After being almost done with the appetizer, the server walked by and asked how it was and walked off without waiting for our answer. When she did come back, she took our order. I ordered a steak medium rare. The steak came out well done. When she asked if it was going to be okay if that's how it was, I said no, but that I would eat it anyway. Shortly after, the district manager came out to me and asked me how my steak was supposed to be and I explained. He offered to have it remade properly and let me keep the one I had to nibble on. I've been in three times, so will blend experiences into one review. Went for lunch twice, sat in booth in bar area with a companion. First time I had a pineapple mojito. It was very tasty, although I could see where one could get into trouble fairly quickly with them - tasty and easy to drink, then... FLOOR. The second time I had iced tea. Nothing special there, but had work to do at home, so no cocktails for me. The Santa Fe grilled cheese was great with a side salad, and the Fiesta Mac was really good. It was a large portion, so ended up with leftovers. The third visit was with a large group for cocktails and some appetizers on the patio. That was a bit more of a challenge for the waitstaff as we had several people cycle through our group, both guests and staff, so those of us at the end had to do quite a bit of sorting with the bills to get things straight. The first visit he had the fish and chips which were okay, not amazing. First time I had the BBQ mac and cheese. Holy yum. Second time I had to talk myself out of getting them again and tried the french dip. No cheese (yay!), good au jus and the horseradish on the side was super on point. Husband kept dipping his fries in it! Not a great cider selection, but that's pretty normal for the area. Lots of beers.
