This is a bit of a strange review to write. The beer is good. The atmosphere is cool. The food was better than ok, but not a 4 or 5 star. The two cooks in the open kitchen is what struck me as strange. I love the concept, but, watching them, I quickly realized why kitchens are hidden. The lady in the kitchen was different. I was ok with the entire thing, until there was a weird hair on the side of my salad bowl. I didn't notice until halfway through my salad. I choose not to complain due to the fact that my food was being prepared. Then. Then. As I walked to the restroom, I watched the lady cook take a nibble of the food at the prep station. I wanted to leave, but hubby said to give it a chance. My tacos and his shrimp tacos were NOT terrible. They were tasty. My wife took me here for Father's Day. After reading their reviews online...I was ready to stop in for a cold beer and some good food. The service was friendly, but as other reviewers stated...a little "energetic" with the constant trips to your table (better more than none, I guess). The establishment was very clean and inviting and the beer was very good. Unfortunately, I could not comment on the actual food, since we arrived at 2:50 and were told that the kitchen closed in 10 minutes. I noticed it was all brunch menu items and was in the mood for a bigger meal, so we ordered the House Chips instead. The chips were seasoned, but cold and clumped together...so you constantly had to break large clumps apart. They weren't really that good, but maybe just because they were cold. I was really looking forward to my visit here, so I was disappointed that it ended with a beer and cold House Chips. I was given a Father's Day card, that was signed by everyone there...so that was nice. Like I said, the service is definitely not lacking. I hope to return and try some different beer and the actual food selection. Definitely worth checking out. I'll update my review once I have more experience here. read more

This is a hidden gem in Lakeway. Really good food options and large burgers. Good beer selection. There is a nice shaded outdoor patio and it is pet friendly. The service is really good, they work hard to make you feel welcome. Sitting indoors can be a bit smoky due to the kitchen proximity but we usually sit outside. read more

We just discovered this hidden treasure! We're always searching for restaurants that offer beautiful outdoor seating, great food, friendly people, reasonable prices, an open bar, and this place had it all AND had wonderful live music! Our server even introduced me to a new, locally made vodka which was great. My salmon was beautifully prepared, the vegetables were fresh and flavorful, my son & husband raved about their cheeseburgers, the bread tasted bakery-fresh, and the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the high quality! Pretty good beer selection for lighter beers, not so great for stouts and porters. Perhaps the selection rotates in the winter towards heavier brews? Food is both small and mediocre for the cost. If we went back, we certainly wouldn't eat there. read more

Tonight was not the best experience. We wanted to sit outside, but the musician was so loud with a shrill voice that we had to move inside because our eardrums couldn't stand the pitch of the music. We went today on Father's day for lunch, they told us at the door it will take 45 minutes for the food and we didn't mind the wait. We ordered corn bread, two chicken waffle and two bruschetta burrata and two kids chicken and fries . We waited two hours finally the waitress brought just the kids meals after half an hour she came back to tell us the waffle machine broke down and if it is ok to bring pancake instead , so we said ok. Ten minutes later she brought the food The bruschetta bread was so greasy and oily had nothing to do with their website photo the tomato was soggy . The pancake was burned and cold and so was the chicken . The corn bread was greasy and the oil was dripping we couldn't eat it . This is all after two hours of wait and to be honest they were not that busy . I don't know why it took so long . it was a complete waste of time and money. I feel so bad for spending this occasion at this place. Will never go back and I don't recommend it at all. read more

This place has everything for everyone, without being 'too much'. Best selection of beers, wines and cocktails that I've found in Lakeway (better than the Grove for sure). The menu is just right - you can get a great charcuterie board alongside a great burger or gazapcho and salmon. They have cozy outdoor seating (under oak trees) and a nice indoor space with a great bar center piece. If they had so-so service I'd keep coming back - but NO - they have GREAT SERVICE. It's the cherry on top! BONUS - my wife accidentally lost her wedding band through the boards on the deck. Our server (Nico, the spelunker!) crawled the full length of the deck (50 ft?) to retrieve the ring. He's our hero. Thank you Hops & Thyme - we will see you soon! read more

Stopped in with hubby without kids for an adult night out while traveling. Nothing disappointing about this great find on Yelp. Hubby enjoyed the wide selection of beers to choose from, thank you Ross for your suggestions. Now for the food... off the hook! We learned the executive chef, Nathan, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America; near and dear to us as we live close to it. From the charred carrots to the steak skewers, to the shrimp and grits ... everything was fresh and delicious. We had high hopes for Hops and Thyme but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The service was terrible and the food was mediocre. Our waiter left us without water most of the meal. He forgot the dressing for our salads and when we reminded him, he didn't bring us the dressing. Til we were already 1/2 through the meal. I think this restaurant has a spectacular menu for being in Lakeway. Not many breweries can offer up farm table fresh fixings and healthy options. I especially dig the pasta carbonara and pork belly fried rice. The food can be salty at times but that doesn't bother me! The outdoor patio great, and offers an accommodating area for both rambunctious toddlers and pets. My only complaint is the thick smell of food cooking that looms over the seating area. So it's best to go when the weather is nice. Service can be hit-in-miss, but the owners make up for it by being very attentive to customers. read more

Okay honey, if you're going to set a table in Texas WITHOUT salt and pepper, you had better be able to bring it. Well, Hops and Thyme definitely brought it! The food we ordered was flavorful and well thought out. The seared goat cheese polenta was fluffy and (lightly) sweet, it went great with the seared salmon and roasted veg. They have a suprisingly large selection of draft beer and bottles of wine - the staff was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions in this arena too. We don't live out here but I would be happy to pop back in the next time we venture to Lakeway. It was a little too chilly to sit outside, but just a heads up, they DO have heaters outside and dogs are totally welcome. C'mon! read more

Food was 3.5, if it wasn't all served cold, maybe it would be a 4.5 stars. Most dishes the flavor was great (shrimp and grits, Mac and cheese, kale salad) a few were lacking in flavor (beef short ribs) and some were way too salty and soupy (pork belly fried rice). Atmosphere outside was a 4! Not the most beautiful, but overall nice and tree covered! Service started at a 5 and then quickly went down to a 2. Friendly (even brought toys for our toddler) and apps + drinks came very quick. It took over an hour for our first dish to arrive (place is was empty when we arrived at 5pm and still was only about 7 tables total during this entire ordeal) and probably another 10 minutes for a majority of the table to arrive. They did not bring out an entire entree for one of our family members. They took the last entree off the check and brought complimentary pie due to the oversight. We could we they were struggling, otherwise I would have probably complained a little more about the cold food. I would have appreciate if the waitstaff was more forthcoming and owned why there were so many issues with the food coming out so piecemeal. We will maybe come back in a few months if the reviews go up on the service component. read more
