Most recently, when I purchased my second Steinway Model D from the Steinway Piano Gallery in Hinsdale, the store graciously prepared four instruments for me to try. To my surprise, Ken was already there, ready to guide me through the process, and that's when the real fun began. Although I know little about the technical side of piano tuning, Ken has always taken the time to explain the nuances with patience and clarity. What I do know is this: after Ken works his magic, the piano always sounds its very best. His skill, professionalism, and dedication have earned my highest trust. I wholeheartedly recommend Ken Orgel to anyone seeking a masterful piano technician.

They scheduled the pickup and delivery for 9:30-11:30am on a Wednesday and said I'd get a tighter time confirmation that morning. The crew contacted me at 8:30 and said they'd arrive for pickup between 9:15 and 9:30. They did. The former owner of the piano texted me at 9:20am and said they were already gone and all had been smooth. They arrived promptly to deliver, called me to say they were here, and three strong piano moving experts carried the piano (a spinet) up to my second floor walkup (28 steps, 5 turns). They had moving blankets on the piano and did not touch any of the walls. Flawless. They were excellent, fast (but moved slowly and carefully), and very pleasant. And the price was right. The best of the three quotes I got. Highly recommend.

I looked around online for a while and chose him because he was close, reasonable and all the other people looked really pretentious (he looks really kind in his picture). I submitted my information on a Saturday and figured I'd hear back later in the week but he contacted me within the hour and was able to fit me in the very next day! He was exactly what I'd hoped for: straight-forward, easy-going and not-judgy about my low-brow piano (Wurlitzer spinet). I totally left the door open for him to charge me extra by indicating that my piano hadn't been tuned in some time and might need a more expensive service. He explained that I basically didn't need it. I also asked about a minor repair and he showed me how I could take care of it myself. He was extremely candid about my piano ("it's in good shape and doesn't need any repairs which is kind of unusual for purchasing an older piano." "Some people say you should have your piano tuned 6 months after a move but I don't see why you would need it in less than a year"). Whenever you're in a situation where you don't really know anything (servicing a car, piano, boat, whatever), it's really important that you feel you can trust the person doing the service. I trust peter completely and will use him again every time I get my piano tuned.

I searched for a Piano Tuner and found Kleinhans. Spoke to Bob and he was able to squeeze us in. (Bob had actually given me some tips on what to look for while deciding on bringing home a piano) Once we got it in place I made an appointment. Bob spent a good amount of time tuning and repairing and tuning and more tuning. After all that, our piano sounded great! It was a pleasant sound. And that's not it... You will end up paying over 200% of the retail value of a brand new instrument and yet you get a used one.
