Refer to pictures* Been a minute since I've been to a place where they stack up their tacos, make the fried fish perfectly, and not overly drench it with salt. The ambiance of the place was spacious with outdoor seatings as needed. The service was great! The front lady was very helpful with our requests and questions. Definitely will be back again.

Ahi Tuna over salad!

The Ahi tuna was Exceptional! This restaurant blew away the competition! The food, see photo, was as good as it looks! The staff was cheerful and polite. The dining room is clean. I also brought home Salmon which was eaten so quickly that it's photo is just a happy memory of 2 large pieces of fish over garlic rice, salad, seperate side of asparagus. This Ahi was so delicious that I ordered another Ahi to go! Their prices and portions and most importantly QUALITY has me HOOK'D! I will travel extra miles to eat here! Thank you!

First impression- I've been here a few times before so not exactly my first impression. Calm environment simple setup order at the front and wait for your food. Clean and friendly Parking - shared parking lot so no stress Food- Appetizer- poke- honestly it was pretty good and very affordable Main - I got a 3 taco combo. First fish was crispy white fish, second the Cajun salmon and third the grilled white fish. Got the cabbage and chipotle cream on the side. Tomatoes were fresh and great. Service- They always have great customer service. Today I got asked if I'd like some water while I wait for my to go order to finish before I even sat down. Attentive to detail and genuinely care for their customers. Overall- I love this place. Great for families and their food is consistently great.

Shrimp taco. Grilled white fish with orso rice and a big burrito chicken

My daughter sent me a delivery for mother's day coz it's bussy day for restaurant. Food is good. Portioning is ok . Price is affordable. Almost like the other fish grill that I usually visit at Northridge.

I've been here a few times and the food is always good with fast and friendly service. The grilled shrimp (garlic butter) with salad and zucchini is my go to meal. However, the white fish is really good as well as the Cajun fries . There's always plenty of parking in the shopping center (free). They do have indoor seating but no outdoor seating.

Best beer battered fish tacos I've tried in the SFV so far. So glad we gave them a try. The fish doesn't taste super fishy & the crunch on the outside was perfect. The fish & chips were okay, not much flavor & wouldn't order them again. But their tartar sauce had the perfect flavor to dip the tacos/ fish in and they have good fries to order as a side. Also tried the poke nachos which were a nice appetizer. Service was super friendly and parking is easy to find. It's a little bit of a wait for food but definitely worth it & will be back again

Salmon over pasta.

In a nutshell - the food was okay, maybe slightly better than average. The cashier was very friendly and welcoming, so that was a plus. The ambiance is virtually non-existent, and actually was depressing. Living in the Southland, we've been spoiled by having some great seafood places to enjoy fresh fish. I appreciate the newer trend of having no frills pescatarian options, but fewer frills shouldn't have to mean no frills at all. I've been in many fast food restaurants with a lot more to look at than this place. And what is up with having zero trash cans inside the whole restaurant? There is one bin outside on the extremely minimalistic patio area. I found that whole dynamic very odd. Dear Hubby and i decided to split one entree of salmon over pasta. It turned out to be a strange flavor choice. Each element would be okay on its own, but together - not so much. The salmon came in two pieces, which made it ideal to split. It was very thin salmon pieces, though. That meant that it had to be cooked carefully not to dry out. It was just on the acceptable side. The pasta was tasty with a marinara sauce that offered good flavors. I would have preferred a white sauce, but have to avoid dairy (sadly!) DH also ordered a side of white rice and another of zucchini. Drink selection was minimal, and fully-sugared lemonade was one of the few caffeine-free options. As much as the goal of this restaurant is to offer healthier meal choices, they could have used better options in their beverage station line-up. For the whole experience, I am thinking that we'll go elsewhere to find fresh seafood, as this place left me feeling flat.

Delicious food and polite service. Ordered the fried catfish and shrimp combo and it was very filling and delicious.

Garlic butter salmon: EXCELLENT!
Adrienne D.

The food was so good! I've been trying to get back but it's so far out of my way! On a hunch I tried a local fish grill. I always get garlic butter salmon but I was not expecting this to be so much better than the rest. The secret is the sauce! I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It was a nice portion and came out quickly. The cashier was friendly and the place was well spaced and clean and even offered free water. I will definitely come back when I get a chance. Consider opening restaurants closer to Hollywood!

Good flavor, variety, portions. This restaurant has good values but can become pricey with the add ons.

Ask the Community - Hook'd Fish Grill

Do they have tarter sauce?

Yes for certain fish items like fish and chips it's included but I guess you can ask for it when you are there or order online for any fish you get.

First time here and my experience was overall positive; would give overall a 4.5/5. Despite what…read moreother reviewers said about there always being a line, I was fortunate that there was no line when I came on a Saturday afternoon. The staff were all friendly (from the person who took my order to the person who handed me the order) and my order came out correctly. There's enough seating inside, but me warned that they have no restrooms for customer use (not sure if that's even legal). Anyway, onto the food... 1. Regular Taco (4/5) Going to any taco establishment, it's a must to try their original taco. I got it with carne asada. The tortilla is corn-based and it comes with onions, cilantro, fresh tomato salsa. Overall, not a bad taco, just not the best, best. The overall flavor profile was pretty solid though - you get the beefy flavor from the shredded beef, the refreshing-ness of the cilantro, salsa and freshly squeezed lemon juice. 2. Birria Tacos (5/5) Corn tortilla lightly fried in birria broth; this version is between the regular taco and the dorados. It gets soggy quickly from the juicy, flavor-packed broth, so eat this first and fasssttt! The beef was flavorful and tender. Onions and cilantro were fresh. It not only looked good, it tasted great! 3. Dorados (5/5) This is their "crunchy" taco, which I got with shredded beef (default, but can change to other protein options). That crunchy shell was just sooo satisfying with each bite. Flavor wise, it's pretty similar to the Birria taco described above. I love the fresh radish slices they offer on the side. It's crunchy and a nice palate cleanser in between each taco.

The flavor of the burrito was really good, and I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, almost every…read moreother bite of the carne asada was nothing but fat and gristle. I ended up having to pick it apart, and eventually it became too unpleasant to eat, so I couldn't even finish it. It's disappointing because the seasoning and flavor were there, but the quality of the meat completely ruined the experience. I hope this was just an off day, because with better-quality carne asada, this could have been a great burrito.

To be honest this spot came through so many times after a night of too many drinks and needing something to come back to life. Their tacos de burrito are so good and the tortilla is kind of fried, sirven bien doraditos los tacos, so they don't fall apart when you dip them in the consomé (broth). What I used to do was get a few tacos and a larger order of consomé and then use that broth to make ramen with and omg, so good! lol it was the gift that kept on giving. Can't wait to go back. They usually have tables as well so you're able to enjoy your meal while it's hot and go on your way.

Our server, Brock, did a great job and made sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. I would definitely recommend asking for Brock because he was friendly, attentive, and provided great service. Another worker named Brian also kept bringing us more chips and checking in on us. Unfortunately, this visit left a bad taste in my mouth, and it had nothing to do with the food. We arrived approximately 15 minutes before happy hour ended, which was purely coincidental because I wasn't even aware of their happy hour schedule. Upon entering, I needed to use the restroom, so the person I was dining with was seated by the host. When I returned, I noticed we still hadn't received menus or been approached by a server, despite a waitress standing nearby looking directly at our table. Since no one had acknowledged us, my dining companion decided to walk over to the bar to take advantage of the happy hour specials. On his way back, he politely asked the waitress about getting menus. Her response was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. She snapped, "This isn't self-seating! That's why you haven't gotten a menu!" She then proceeded to explain that it was her section. He calmly informed her that we had, in fact, been seated by the host. Rather than apologizing for her assumption, she went over to the host, said something while looking in our direction, and the host confirmed that he had indeed seated us. At that point, she disappeared into the kitchen, and another waitress approached our table. This second waitress was absolutely wonderful! She apologized for the confusion, took our drink order, and provided the level of hospitality you would expect when dining out. Unfortunately, the situation didn't end there. The original waitress continued making comments about us to coworkers as they passed by, making an already uncomfortable situation even more unpleasant. It was obvious that she had an issue with us, and rather than handling a simple misunderstanding professionally, she chose to make it everyone else's business. We eventually requested to speak with the general manager. He was understanding and offered us several $10 discount cards for future visits, along with a complimentary dessert, which I politely declined because I'm not much of a dessert person. I appreciated his attempt to make things right, but I want to make one thing very clear: We were not looking for discounts, free food, or special treatment. We simply expected basic respect and decent customer service. In fact, I ended up giving away the discount cards because, after that experience, I had no desire to return. The food was great, the drinks were good, and the waitress who stepped in to take care of us was fantastic. She deserves recognition for her professionalism and for turning an uncomfortable situation into a more pleasant dining experience. However, one employee's attitude can completely overshadow everything a restaurant does right. Customer service is about the CUSTOMER. You're not required to love every interaction, but you are expected to remain professional, respectful, and courteous. If dealing with customers bothers you that much, perhaps a warehouse position would be a better fit. It's unfortunate because La Popular has genuinely good food, but no amount of delicious queso fundido or complimentary desserts can make up for being treated like an inconvenience simply for walking through the door.
