I checked in and slept for a bit, coming in from Los Angeles I had a touch of jet lag. I went down to the bar for dinner and the staff was impeccable, they were all so friendly and attentive. I had a burger and a couple cocktails. Breakfast same impeccable service and so many options, my fave was the avo toast. Everyday I would walk around the property l, visit the stables, and enjoy the brisk air. I utilized the spa facilities, the pool and gym. I had room service as well and tea in the living room. Everything and everyone was first class. I never left for 3 days and by the end my mind was clear and I felt so rejuvenated. This property bring a special kind of peace. Def will be back.

There seems to be a little bit of more…read moreformality, slightly stuffier atmosphere here than other places: the afternoon high tea in restaurant needs to be reserved ahead of time, I was assigned a table to sit for breakfast..and only after insisting that I wanted to be by specific area that I was allowed to do so --it was way early on Sunday morning so no other guests was there for breakfast either. The room was large and nice. I stayed in the main hotel building (slightly more expensive room than what I wanted because the standard room ran out). The bed though was a little small for 2 people...bit I guess maybe that's more common in the UK. Upon check in though I think the cleaning staff accidentally forgot a piece of cloth for cleaning on the windowsill around the curtain. ..ok ...mistake happened I guess..but that along with stuffiness of the atmosphere was not what I expected as much for the price paid (net close to USD400 a night!). The hotel was a little into countryside and slightly away from a train station. Plus, there isn't much within walking vicinity, so it's best to probably have a rental car on your own rather than always relying on taxis I think. A plus is breakfast is included...nice cold spread and hit menu selection for sure. Overall, ok hotel. A change for environment I'm typically used to..but I think if I'm around the area next time, I would probably try checking out other places instead.

The food is great, big portions and very well priced,(especially the chips!!) there is lots of choice on the menu. The only downfall is the gate that opens onto the main road, but the gate is always kept shut (children escaping). Inside the pub is a lovely warm atmosphere, friendly staff and clean surrondings including loos.

The restaurant to ajoined to the pub part so you can have your meal seperatly, and then go on through for a drink afterwards. The pub has pool tables, games machines and sport channel tv - so popular for sports events. I hear the hotel part is very smart, and they hire out rooms for functions as well, at very reasonable prices. The toilets are clean and well looked after and staff friendly and polite.

Hmm at what point was it that I decided this "country hotel and spa" was not for me, could it have…read morebeen: - when I walked in and the place smelt like body odor and mold - when I got to my room and it was hot and sticky - dirty wallpaper in the room - peeling paint on the window ledge - when I called down for soap being told "we don't provide soap for our guests" - the bucket in the common shared corridor collecting rain water and, may I add, I was at the bar trying to purchase water and I was fortunate enough to see the bartender just pass the gross slop bucket and gross mop right over the bar to a coworker, who has encouraged him to do so. Er....that's foul. So, they charge you to use the pool and the gym, yeah, you have to pay for the gym and pool, and not$5 listed on the website, it's actually $7 a pop according to the pricing at the hotel, I mean that's fine, I want verrucas to remain a thing of early childhood anyway and trust me, this pool is probably full of verruca juice. And the dirt doesn't end there! No! You can find dust and dirt throughout the place for your enviromental pleasure! Don't worry! You won't miss out on filth. Other things of note, hmm, they charge you for the Internet, the TV access is sketchy at best - disinfect the remote before you touch it, the bed was lumpy, there are warning signs on the bathroom door explaining that if you use the shower with the door open the fire alarm will go off (huh?????) and a spa??? I dread to think of the horrors that would unfold, for a place that provides no soap or shampoo for its guests one can only imagine the level of cleanliness at the spa. This place needs an overhaul desperately, I'm stunned that people come here, the 5 star review above is clearly an insider because no one in their right mind would enjoy being at this ridiculous place and to show you that I am to be believed not the 5 star yahoo above here, I have included some support materials. The setting opposite the station is convenient, and if you sit outside the garden is really very nice indeed with a play area for children a covered area and an open area. There are lots of tables but they're well spaced out so you don't feel crowded. The only problem with the tables is they are not quite big enough for 4 people to eat together but fine for couples. The price of drinks is reasonable for a pub, we had soft drinks (one lemonade and lime and a diet coke) which cost less than £3. Now onto the food. Its not good news I'm afraid. When we had the Sunday lunch the vegetable were really soggy and had been cooked in a weird orange lightly curried oil. They sat in a little pool of orange oil on our plates and were inedible. We won't be going back for more. Today we decided to try something from the bar menu. It was pretty quiet, no more than 4 tables of people eating but it took them a whole HOUR to bring us 4 basic cold sandwiches. Plus we didn't get them all at once, my and my partner got ours a good 10 minutes before my inlaws' arrived though we'd ordered together. While we were waiting for them I had asked the passing bar man how long they would be, he was frankly rude and just snapped 'they're coming'. I'd ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich which comes with salad and a choice of chips or spicy fries. I'd asked for spicy fries but got plain chips. No explanation was offered but my MIL did overhear the barmaid telling someone else they didn't have any. The bread was bog-standard supermarket sliced, the cheese was bland and the pickle just standard from the jar stuff. It was ok, not good not bad just acceptable. They were £4 for the cheese and pickle and £5 for the chicken baguette. A jacket potato with cheese and beans would set you back £5.25 which I think is a bit steep. The chicken baguettes were no better. Save your money and make your own to take to the park I'd say. We're not going back.

The rooms were very clean with excellent facilities throughout. The grounds where it is situated are beautiful and well worth a walk to explore! We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good and accommodated well for the kids too! For my European colleagues and me, it was ideal. (As an American, I realize that's not true for everyone. No air con, and it's a short walk to the secondary house/rooms.) The hospitality was exceptional! Kim, at the front desk, was exceedingly patient and professional. Every request was met, from copies to restaurants to taxis. Breakfasts were typical. The adorable bar was very accommodating. Whether you're looking for an English experience or just a reasonably priced hotel, I can't recommend it highly enough.
