I went to this adorable coffeehouse the other day as I was in the 'hood and had extra time on the parking meter and this place looked just so darn cute. An enticing sandwich-board outside the door featured two amazing looking seasonal beverages: a chai latte of sorts and a coconut milk tea of sorts (I forget the actual names of the drinks. All I know is, they looked amazing in the photos, it was cold and raining outside, and my kid and I said to each other, "let's get these!". lol good advertising, for sure!). In we went. It was busy and no seats were initially available. The inside was light and bright, with white painted walls and a lanai-esque aesthetic. The young man at the counter who took our order was super nice. We ordered our two drinks as well as a day-old croissant for 50% off. Service was slow, as it took a long time for our drinks to be prepared (I guess I'm just used to Starbucks where the process is more fluid and fast), but when they were done, boy, they were pretty: each drink was served in a beautiful aquamarine-teal blue-green china cup, with a small coaster plate and silver demi-tasse spoon, with a frond-leaf latté design created on top of my coffee drink with the foamed milk. Lovely looking drinks. And they tasted great, too (although, admittedly, I'm not accustomed to Hawaii coffee, and my drink was richer than those I'm used to). Our croissant was moist and fresh (one would never guess it was a day old). Very nice. I found the prices here higher than those at Starbucks. Our 8 oz coffees each was over $5 (in contrast, I usually get a grande chai latté at Starbucks for the same price), but the experience here is lovely and it has the feel of a refined tea salon, with the fine china and all. And the beverages are fancier, for lack of a better word. And the coffee, richer. It's a different experience, for sure, and I suppose it's worth paying the higher cost for it, once in a while. (As a side note, they have the cutest merchandise here for sale. Cute coffee carafes and mugs and t-shirts, all with they tropical logo. Good quality, a little pricey, but very nice). read more

Drinks are pretty much preset with no ability to make things nonfat, use different milk options, etc. Acai smoothie was ok. Nothing special. and the mocha blended drink was not very icy and more melted... Not at all like a frappacino (they told me it was similar to one) and both drinks were pretty expensive. Not worth $12... Drove out of my way to come here as I liked the downtown location and drinks and was happy to see there was a location this side of town, but I would not do so again. I do dig the space though. Seems like it would be a good place for ubc students to hang out. read more

Honolulu coffee has recently caught my attention as they started showing up too often everywhere I go. Mostly just the one in Kerrisdale and Downtown on Nelson. I am guessing this is a sign to go and try! This location is welcoming as soon as I walked in. There are exactly eight people not including the two people who just left in the shop, including myself, with an occupancy of somewhere around 50, making this visit very quiet and the perfect time to read, chat and study. And reviewing on Yelp. The sitting arrangements are mostly tables and chairs and comfortable long "bench" The staff are warm, happy and friendly. My coffee choice today was the Kona pour over. Normally, as much as I love drinking coffee, I rarely notice any special aroma and taste but with this method or perhaps the beans, the coffee was amazing! I am no coffee connesieur so I am just saying that this is a very enjoyable cup of coffee! According to the menu description, its notes are strawberry, lime and juicy. Stopped by here for hot chocolate fest. Service was great. Hot chocolates are even better. The aloha macs had macadamia nuts infused and served with delicious butter cookies. The Brok da Mout (spelling?) was amazing as well. Never knew hibiscus would blend so well with chocolate. read more

I give this place 3 stars since they don't have several size coffee cups. I ordered the matcha latte with almond milk ... Amazing. So delicious. It would have been nicer if I could have a larger size of this delicious drink. The oat cake was a miss. Totally dry land grainy. Don't buy it. One great thing about their drinks is you can get 4 alternatives to dairy which are soy, almond, coconut and oat milk. The ambiance is super cozy. If you don't care about gluten free options or the size of your cup, this place is super cute and has lots of pastry options. read more

I LOVE THE GUAVA BREAD. It's quite pricey however. For one slice I could buy 2 entire loaves from my local bakery. That really sucks, but it's irresistible. The quality is definitely satisfactory, but the pricing and quantity need improvement. read more

Great cozy place to get some work done, at a convenient location! Their acai bowls are straightforward and probably the most classic acai bowl you could get. They're a little smaller which makes for a better snack than a meal. It's icy cold and exactly what you'd expect. I would definitely come back for some studying with an acai bowl on the side. read more

Normally this is a good place, but do NOT get the Hot Chocolate from the 2021 Festival. Just an atrocious experience. More than $12 for a small cup of normal hot chocolate and some whip cream and sprinkles on it. The small macaron on the side doesn't justify it. When I paid over $12 with tip and taxes I thought boy, this better be something special. To be presented with a cafeteria-style hot chocolate was beyond disappointing. It doesn't help that it has to be presented in a paper cup so presentation is not special at all. When I asked for a refund right away the manager at the West 41st branch pointed out, very unkindly I might add, that the picture showed what you got so would not refund. I didn't argue that the picture was not even close to the finished product. I just asked them to throw away the drink and return the macaron on principle and explained this was a horrible service experience. They had no response. Really amateurish service and insulting product. Greedy, especially in light of everything going on. Too bad. I used to think highly of this place, but no longer. Avoid the hot chocolate savagely and the rest of the experience might be better. The new staff at the 41st, especially the manager, is not a great look. Perhaps try the downtown branch instead. Disappointing and off putting overall. Damn.... read more

I'm not sure how they can make this place better. I like the chill Hawaian vibe, the picture of palms on the big wall on the left as you enter has me feeling tropical right from the start. Beautiful logo. The place has lots of floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides. Almost all natural light in this place, a huge bonus. Hawaiian twists on old favorites makes this place a mecca for me. This is my new go to coffee shop. read more

The Hawaiian latte is my go to drink when I visit. It's on the sweeter side but the nutty flavor from macadamia nuts cannot be compared with all other types of flavored coffee. I ran into a group of friendly people for we end up talking until the store is closing. The baristas Ellie and Mae were kind to let us stay a little longer. Thanks! Their downtown location is even more spacious and have some outdoor seating during the summer time. Hope to see more of this chain in Van in the next few years :) read more

I am deeply conflicted by liking this Honolulu Coffee by a few reasons. Nostalgia and memories are part of the core of who we are. And this physical location, the coffeeshop before it was the place of my very first job when I was 15. The job in which on the first day, I knocked down a lamp, but they kept me anyway. It was a job where I learnt a lot and kept lifelong friends (in fact, i tried this location w one) So I have a lot of good memories and attachment to this location. On to the drinks - I got a Hawaiian latte because I heard there's whip on it. (big fan) The coffee was good BUT there was no latte art and the whipcream they put on there looked a lil like a white turd. A tad too sweet but overall i enjoyed it. The fragrance of the espresso came through. I would order a normal latte next time. The fact that they source their coffee right is a plus. My friend got kombucha from booch something which looked good as well. Ambiance wise, it was great, the green and white and wood is such a nice and inviting combo. Super hawaiian, the guys working there had hawaiian shirts, v fun. The chairs also looked great. Is this how it feels to grow up? read more

Very overpriced food and drinks. The coffee shop does have a nice interior design, but I still cannot justify the price. Starbucks is even cheaper than Honolulu Cafe, and that is amazing. If you don't mind spending more here for drinks or food, then this place is right for you. However, I wouldn't be able to come here regularly. read more

It's been a while since my last visit to Honolulu Coffee. Was waiting for this location to open up and went in yesterday to get their hot Hawaiian Latte ($5.50) . While I'm in their I also managed to snag a pineapple coconut croissant $4.00). To be quite frankly honest, I prefer their latte cold as the hot didn't differentiate from any other latte I would've had at a namely well known coffee chain. The pineapple croissant gave a nice summer feel however, I wish the croissant could be flakier and would've tasted better if it was warm. Noticed some interesting kombucha flavours so that will be one of the items I'd be returning for. I've asked it'd cost you less than 6 bucks for a bottle. Looks smaller than what is shown in their pics though. read more

Nice little neighborhood coffee place, but the espresso was very bitter, even after resorting to sugar to try to kill the cappuccino's bitterness. (If I wanted lousy coffee I'd go to Starbucks. But perhaps Starbucks has just set a very low bar for coffee in the Pacific Northwest?) If it were all about atmosphere, I'd give Honolulu a higher mark, but because it's allegedly a coffee house, they really ought to work on the quality of their product. read more

Grabbed some coffee here after lunch. The cold brew is really good! I didn't need room for cream so I asked for "no room", and they loaded up on the ice instead... there was hardly room for the straw! No matter, it kept my drink cold. Cute little cafe in Kerrisdale, there is free parking a short walk away or pay parking out front. It's quiet and roomy enough to study or get some work done, but tables are limited. Try the Hawaiian Latte! I was so excited when I found this cafe, after trying macadamia nut lattes when I was in Honolulu I was just completely hooked. The Hawaiian latte here comes close to what I had in Honolulu and satisfies my cravings for it. Hot or cold, they're both good. read more

My date had some banana bread and regular coffee and thought it was nice. They have a large seating area with sunlight, but the chairs with the plastic weaving could use some cushions. read more

It didn't inspire the Honolulu I was expecting. Maybe my expectations were high but if you're placing a Hawaiian tag on a business, i would expect more ie: music, Hawaiian-inspired island feel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Service was quick and prompt. Ordered the 100% Kona coffee (takes 5 min to hand pour), a very excellent brew. Definitely not worth $7.20 for an almond milk pumpkin spice latte that is the size of a medium latte in every other coffee shop. I asked for a large almond milk pumpkin spice latte and got what would be the equivalent of a medium at every other cafe and I'm paying more here than for a large elsewhere. Are you kidding me????!!! I came to this new location last week when I had my self defense course at the rec center very early Sunday morning and I needed some pick up before getting physical. My options that morning was very limited in the area, however, I was so thankful that this location is now in the West end of 41ST. I am a huge fan of the brand and general and love the downtown location. The customer service wasn't as great as my regular downtown location, however, it wasn't bad either. I was very disappointed with this coffee shop on 41st. First of all they ran out of the veggie breakfast wrap I had to settle for my third option. Secondly, their coffee was medium hot. I asked for them to heat it up after having 2-3 sips, however they don't have this option. Their only recommendation was to add hot water!! They did not offer to replace with a new freshly brewed coffee. I should say that in their DT location the service was very good. read more

Great coffee shop with unique baked items. Staff was friendly and the environment felt Hawaiian without the tacky side added in. My coffee had a Kona flavour and the macnut muffin was very fresh. This is best coffee shop in Kerrisdale. Location with large windows adds to the lightness of the decor. Pastries are always fresh and the croissants are best in the city. Great staff - owner works tons of shifts. I'm a sucker for the Hawaiian Latte (Macadamia nut syrup makes it smooth. Came here last week with my hubby. We ordered iced latte and cappuccino. The place wasn't very busy at all. The barista looked so miserable and not friendly at all, didn't want to look and talk to us. There was no hello or smiles from anyone working there. We were there first but the barista gave our ice latte to the guy who came way after us. When my husband told them we still waiting for ice late, the other girl there said our latte is coming. We don't understand how we got our drinks after a guy who came in way after us and we got no apology from them for giving away our drinks. The drinks weren't even good. The cappuccino was way too hot and had no taste and the ice latte was way too light in flavour that I couldn't even taste the coffee. The weirdest thing was the place had lots of seats but an asian guy came in there by himself after us reserve a table without buying anything yet. That will be the last time we go there.
