Small and casual cantonese bakery run by some aunties and uncles! You won't get amazing service here but that's as expected. Got 2 egg tarts, a taro bun, a pineapple bbq pork bun, and pineapple cream bun. All the breads were soft and delicious! So I first heard of this place from a Facebook group who recommended it. It's a small, covert bakery tucked away into the Asian Plaza on Buford Highway. I stopped in here just to check it out since I heard their pastries were fresh and delicious. I went somewhat near the end of the day so they had sold out of their famous egg tarts. I ended up picking a taro bun and some coconut pastries. I'm not sure if they were the owners or just workers but they did not speak English well. That's okay, I was just trying to check out. Minus the language barrier, it was relatively quick to check out and get on our way. I tried the pastries once I got home and oh my gosh...I think I found my new favorite bakery. Everything was SUPER fresh and so so good!!! Also...not to mention the pastries were cheap!!!! I got 3 pastries for like $6 or so. Not only were they yummy but also very affordable!! ***FOOD: Double Yum place!!! OMG how have we missed this gem all this time. We stumbled upon this authentic Chinese Hong Kong bakery purely by accident. Their baked goods are so good and truly authentic and prices were so reasonable. It was so good we went back a week later to get more. The 2nd time we were fortunate with good timing and the auntie was bringing out freshly made still warm buns. PINEAPPLE BUN w custard filling - so delicious, one of all time favs; SPONGE CAKE - fluffy light so delicious, perfect goodness; COCONUT BUN w cream filling - good; BANANA ROLL - smelled and tasted so bananay. Love it. You don't often find this; COCONUT w/ peanut filling MOCHI - our absolute favourite. we saw it the 2nd time there, first time they were sold out; DAN TAT - custard egg tart was heavenly ahmazing. That's when you know it's authentic. When we were there the first time it was late, 15mins to closing time and they had run out of almost everything. I'm from Chicago, which has many long time Chinese bakeries and I was excited to try Hing Kong Bakery while in ATL...but was disappointed :-(. The filling of the savory buns was a little lacking (except for the cheese and spam bun). Some of the sweet buns lacked taste and was below the typical low asian level of sweetness (custard bun lacked flavor and sweetness). I'd try other Asian bakeries next time in ATL. read more

Came here to buy a cake for my wife, and I have to say I'm pretty happy that I did! Ordering it was pretty painless. Ever since moving down to ATL, I wanted to find a cake that had good whipped frosting that wasn't too sweet, and just fresh fruits on the cake. I saw here on Yelp that HK Bakery had custom orders. I messaged them to see how much it would cost, and it was pretty awesome to speak with someone from the store and basically order exactly what I wanted. They even helped me in ordering a custom made fruit (lychee). It was going to be mango, but they said that it wasn't in the right season and that lychee would be better and were they right! The inside of the lychee was perfect and was sweet when we bit into it. The cake was amazing and I would definitely think about buying another cake from HK Bakery. This is the best bakery around to get your Chinese desserts. Their cocktail buns (鸡尾包), egg tarts (蛋挞), and wife cookies (老婆饼) are my personal favorites, but all of the pastries are really good so I recommend trying everything at least once to find your favorite! Nothing is too sweet, and there's just the right amount of sugar. Also, the pastries are always made that day. If you're lucky you can even get a warm egg tart fresh out of the oven. The owner is so friendly and always greets each customer happily. I love coming here and supporting this bakery. I might need to try this place again...By the time I got there, they were near sold out of everything (holiday weekend). I got their wife cake, which was actually very yummy. It wasn't too sweet and had that classic chewiness of the wintermelon filling, and it was delightful to eat. I also had their egg tarts, though it wasn't glossy on the top and their crust was not flaky enough. The egg tarts (I had 3) were also inconsistent with each other, some crusts being thicker on one side, some flakier than others, etc. The person working there did mention that the egg tarts did not come out well that day though, and gave me the egg tarts on a tiny discount. I'll be back to give it another try and hopefully get the chance to try their other pastries. I'll give it a 3.5 for now, but pretty sure on a good day it'd be a solid 4. read more

Awesome bakery! A friend of mine told me about this little bakery down the street from Sweet Hut, and highly recommended it. When I found myself on Buford Highway one afternoon, I decided to stop by. There was no line when I walked in. There was only one other customer. HK Bakery is fairly small, but houses 5-6 tables for dining in. They don't have a vast selection of pastries, but what they do offer look amazing! They serve drinks such as tea, coffee, and bubble teas. You can tell their pastries are fresh. I tried a few and my favorite was the cocktail bun! It was soft on the outside and sweet on the inside. Affordable and delicious bakery! Will be back soon! read more

Not to be confused with King Kong Bakery (run by damn dirty apes) or Viet Cong Bakery (to get to which you have to navigate a series of interconnected tunnels). I'm absolutely in love with this little Bakery with super nice service and delicious authentic Asian products in the heart of Atlanta's Chinatown right on the Buford Highway. I had waited quite a while to try it because I'm usually around in the evenings rather than the mornings. The real highlights for me were the wife cakes. I couldn't get enough of them. But as you can see I got a little bit of everything and all of it was good. I'm definitely a massive fan of this place. The guy running it is an angel too. But not like, a VS Angel. I had sort of (non-pinky) promised myself I won't be patronizing Master Bakery anymore: oh, their sweet buns are delectable, and the 'master' who makes those buns is a friendly type, but the Mrs.! Her laconic insolence - almost disdain - for customers (or maybe it's just me!) became too much to take. But then, it's Christmas, and it's either the goodwill of the season, or just my carnal desire (to sink my teeth into those soft azuki-bean-filled, pineapple-topped pillows from heaven) I'll never tell. But there I was, parked and walking toward the store when I saw that it's ... CLOSED (a quick check on Yelp confirmed this) At that moment, I felt a little regret and a little guilt - perhaps they'd still be in business had I given them business every time we visit Atlanta! As it turns out, they're... retired! Their lease was up, and instead of renewing, they packed it in! Quite frankly, I can't imagine their little bakery being so profitable that they can retire early (or maybe they just LOOK young-er). This I found out when I walked across the street to Hong Kong Bakery, erstwhile competitor, and the subject of this review (before I went far afield on a tangent). That gentleman (at HKG Bakery) is very friendly as we converted in Canto. We used to visit his store when we lived in Atlanta, before we even knew about Master Bakery. And his goods are terrific - certainly better than I used to remember them. The aforementioned azuki-filled pineapple bun was exemplary. Cocktail buns and custard-filled were good too. These guys now go for $2.25 a piece, a price point which, while not bank-breaking, ensures you don't indulge every day. Ah those days in Toronto (what, as recently as 17 or 18 years ago?) When they were 60 cents each at the Everbest Bakery on Finch in Scarborough, Ontario (CAD to boot!), and you can buy 5 to get 1 free! I miss those days! read more

The bun was good, but seemed like only a little sweet crust on top. Service was average. I have passed by this place a few times when I go to Mamak or Good Harvest. Today while we were waiting for Good Harvest to open, we walked into this little gems. Not sure if they do dine in before but now they only serve to go. This place is small, simple, but clean. The setting reminds me of those old authentic bakeries in Hong Kong or SF. You won't see a lot of choice of buns, probably due to pandemic, but they do serve the signatures! I heard them speaking Cantonese, is makes me feel like I'm in Hong Kong! The man I believe is the owner started to introduce about their bakery and buns. They have been opened for 30+ years! Now talking about the buns. The texture of the bun is just right! They are not too dry, not too airy it is a little chewy. I put it in microwave for 10sec before serving. The filling (shredded coconut mix) of the cocktail bun is very fine and smooth. The sesame just gives a touch to balance the sweetness. It is so good to eat it while it's lightly warmed. Pineapple bun (bolo bao) on the other hand, best to heat up in oven or airfry, so the top will be crunchy. The best pineapple bun I have had in Hong Kong, the top won't fall off while you hold it, yet its crumbly crust is still crunchy. Anyway I like to add a piece of cold butter in the hot bun, bite it before it starts to melt. It's heavenly good! I have been craving for good Hong Kong Style bakery, especially cocktail buns and pineapple buns. I have tried many bakeries in GA, and this is the true authentic Hong Kong style bakery. read more

I've been here a few times, and it's a decent bakery, though the buns are a little small. I don't care all that much about ambiance but if you want a "bakery/cafe" feel or a place to sit down try somewhere else, this is a place to pick up your food and go. I've tried six different items from this bakery: the banana mochi, the peanut coconut mochi, the sponge cake, the red bean and the mung bean sesame ball, and the cocktail (coconut filled) bun. As for the mochi, GET it. It's incredible! It is a wonderful texture, like a soft chewy pillow, and both kinds are sweet enough but not too sweet. The banana flavor is present but not overwhelming, as well as the peanut and coconut flavors which are perfectly balanced. I've had banana mochi in the *actual* city of Hong Kong and this one is better. The sponge cake is also very good. I like the flavor of the one at Mastery Bakery across the road a little better, as this one is more eggy, but I like the texture better here as it's lighter and fluffier. I prefer Mai Bakery's sponge cake in both regards but only marginally and that bakery is a lot farther from me. The sesame balls are good, in the way that a sesame ball can't really be bad, can it? But I'd say as far as sesame balls I have had better, the mung bean one at Angel Bakery and the red bean one at Dim Sum Heaven as examples...it seems like here there is more sweetness and less flavor coming from the red bean or mung bean itself as some other places. The only thing that I would consider just not great is the cocktail bun. Even though it wasn't physically greasy, it had that mildly unpleasant "too much oil/butter/(insert whatever baking fat here)" taste. The bread didn't taste sweet at all, just very...oiled. There was really barely any coconut filling inside, and it also didn't taste at all sweet, just oily. Usually the small bakeries actually use more filling than more commercial places like Sweet Hut but I actually had a Sweet Hut cocktail bun in my fridge the same time I picked up the one from here so I can objectively say there was at least three times as much filling in the Sweet Hut one (and this was during COVID, after Sweet Hut had started making flatter buns). Overall, this is not a bad bakery, just know what to get! They definitely have strengths and weaknesses depending on what item you choose. read more

I've been going here since i was young! This is one of the best bakeries I know of! The egg tarts and hotdog bun is my go-to whenever I go here. The man that's usually at the front always greets me and my family with a big smile, which is one of my favorite parts of this place! It still feels the same from when I was a child ordering a soy milk and hotdog buns! Tucked away in the corner of the asian square is Hong Kong Bakery. It's a small store with not nearly as many items as similar bakeries like Sweet hut or Paris Baguette, but what they have are pretty good! I was told about their egg tarts, and how delicious they were, so we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to check them out! We got two egg tarts ($1.40 each) and also a cream bun ($1.40). They do have drinks here also but didn't want any bubble tea today. i liked the egg tart I tried! texture was very smooth and the crust was crumbly but in a good way. The Cream bun was still slightly warm, so much so that even one of the clerks was surprised, saying we got a good one! Very fresh bun, soft, chewy, cream filling still slightly warm. Nice! There's a few tables inside Hong Kong bakery but you probably can't take large crowds, and while I didn't ask about large cakes, I did see a cake in one of their display cases, so they may be a good place for cakes if you're interested. Doesn't seem to get a ton of foot traffic, nothing close to other mentioned bakeries, but I like that. Worth checking out sometime if you're in the area! read more
