We visited Honeyville this summer when we were vacationing in Durango. It is a cute stop along the highway with a full parking because so many people know about this place. Inside you will fine a variety of fun items- all honey related of course. They have everything from hand lotion to glasses to obviously honey. They even have honey hand lotion that is in the shape of a honeycomb. They offer tastings of their flavored honey so you can try before you buy. I love their whipped honey and even that comes in different flavors. My favorite is lemon. They also have tastings of honey flavored alcohol near the back of the store. A group of us spent about 45 minutes looking around and trying samples. I was especially impressed when I ran out of honey a month ago and ordered a new supply online and it arrived in 4 days. It was wrapped very well and arrived in perfect condition. Don't forget the honeycomb- it is perfect for a charcuterie board. read more

Honeyville, how I heart you? My heart skipped a bit, when I received my first catalog from Honeyville. Was fortunate to find Honeyville via the Honey Gal, at the Southwest Farmers Market recently, July 6th 2013 visit. I purchased a jar of Bumbleberry Tripple Berry Whipped Honey which was $9 (11.5 oz) jar at the Farmers Market. Have been using it on Scones, Bagels or just on Toast for Breakfast or Tea in the evening. From the catalog, and now at the Farmers Market, I definitely will make many purchases for my personal consumption and out of town guests alike. What's not to love? We were first intrigued by this place as we drove up and back to the ski resort. We were spending a week at Purgatory and always enjoy a good locals favorite. We stopped in as they boasted a "behind a glass case" bee habitat. It was pretty small and really nothing more than you typically see at a museum/nature center. I was expecting something huge! You can see their production line, which is really cool. My one disappointment was that they didn't have the same squeeze containers that we tried at Gazpacho's downtown Durango. That's where we first tried their honey on sopapillas and were in love... and then we had to settle for the traditional bear look. I much preferred that skinny squeeze bottle to keep on my kitchen table... just wish I could find it. I even checked the grocery store and they don't carry it either. Lucky Gazpacho's! read more

Cute shop. Disappointed that we weren't welcomed or greeted when we walked in. Seems to be the typical Durango area thing. Browsed on our own, had to ask, but tasted a few samples. They were nice! I was most excited about the wine though. I wasn't invited to sample it and didn't know if I could but bought a bottle with excitement and confidence in mind only to be bummed out big time. Delicious honey and jams with samples galore! Artisan honeys for days. All "whipped" so they are very light, smooth, and melt in your mouth. Just divine!!!! I'm a bit of a traditionalist so my favorite was the natural whipped honey, but cinnamon was a close second. $6.95 for a big jar, $3.75 for a mini jar. The jams were "just like grandma's" and very flavorful. I picked up the strawberry rhubarb and raspberry ($6.25 for a big jar). Overall, this is a super cute stop on your way up or down the mountain on the side of Highway 550. Makes great gifts! P.S. They also have honey distilled liquor and honey-based wines to sample too! Leave your money at home or you'll leave it all here! :-) I was fortunate enough to meet Alex here yesterday on our first trip. Total professional, full of knowledge, friendly and easy going. I was here with limited knowledge of the uses for honey, although I have hives at home. The young lady I worked with today was awesome, but there was a large crowd so we had little chance to chat. I would be curious to hear what she knows with her degree knowledge in bee management. The strawberry honey wine was a must have after I tasted it and I rarely drink alcohol. I ended up needing another cart and still went back today for some more goodies. Honestly, I am going back because I need to get some unique gifts for friends. I have to also add that they follow the Colorado COVID mask law and allow the exceptions contained therein. I was turned away from some establishments in Durango but Honeyville does not practice discrimination against those with medical disabilities. If you find yourself in the area or even close by, I recommend stopping by. I can't imagine that anyone would be able to leave here empty handed! :-) read more

Honeyville was on our list of place we had to go to. Last time we were traveling through here, they had already closed, we missed it. Not this time and well worth it. We bought everything they had i swear. Spent a ton of money and got a bottle of strawberry honey wine, honey bourbon, whipped honey, cinnamon honey, jellies, and syrups. We also adopted a Honeyville teddy bear for our collection. There is a wall dedicated just for the different honey wines, make sure you sample them. They also have; raw honey, honey combs, honey sticks The ladies that work there are like Seniors and seem to work there just for something to do, really nice ladies, thank you for all your help. This place is a really nice place to stop at. Prices are a little high, but that didn't stop us from buying. Should mention, you can order from their catalog. So we are back in Durango from CA and sorry to say that there is a definite lack of customer service. I was not greeted nor offered a single sample while I was there. I wandered around for a good 15 minutes and seemed to be invisible to the staff. Although the store and it's contents are delightful, the staff is not. We take our out of town visitors there but we will no longer be doing that. The whiskey tasting bar gal was icy and a bit rude. The cashier, a guy, stood with his back to us and continued a lengthy personal discussion with another employee. There was merchandise left by another customer which I told him was not mine. He kept ringing it up anyway until raised my voice way higher than I wanted. He finally got it, but looked at me like I had just ruined his day. I should have just gotten a refund and left. Such a cute little honey shop! We were able to taste their mead (honey alcohol), honeys, and the honey bourbon and vodka they're selling. Everything was delicious, and I appreciated being able to sample some of the flavors instead of just guessing. I thought the staff was very friendly, and loved the beehive in the shop. The beehive shaped distillery in the back room was ADORABLE, and the honey prices were excellent. We ended up buying large containers of cherry, chocolate, and plain whipped honey, as well as a reusable silicone teabag and a beeswax lotion bar, and spent just over $40. One note- the bourbon and vodka they're selling are 3rd party at the moment, because they've only just started their own distillery (so theirs is still aging). Saw this place when heading to Durango on 550, and I kept going. However that evening I stopped at a restaurant that evening and they had Honeyville Honey and I was hooked. The next day we paid a visit and I am glad I did. Left with a couple boxes of honey, jelly, and whiskey. This review is for a phone order. The staff is excellent and I love that I can do an order over the phone. Very fast shipping. The staff did an excellent job packing my items and everything arrived in fantastic shape. Very careful packing and very reasonable shipping charge. The honey is magnificent and a perfect match for biscuits, cornbread, and just about everything including strait from the bear. Careful or you could become addicted. I love the jalapeño jelly and it makes an awesome dip for football games. The jellys are all magnificent. Honeyville was a cool stop! When I first heard about it from my mom, I thought it was going to be mostly comprised of hives, but they only had one tiny display. With that being said, I found the Queen, and the whole process was very interesting to learn about and see. You can try their whiskeys, wines, and honeys for free, which I thought was awesome! Everything we got was tasty, from the peanut brittle to the honeysticks. I have some in my purse now! A great snack if you're running on low and need a pick-me-up. Everyone was extremely friendly and attentive! The store is organized and clean. They also have bathrooms that are clean, so it makes a good rest stop if you're driving through. read more

They let you sample before you buy!! Loved all of the samples they offered. Saw the sign for Honeyville and stopped in. We love honey and had no idea there were so many products available with honey in them. Loved that they let you sample anything on the shelves at their sample counter. They also offer free shipping if you spend $75, which I thought was nice. We didn't spend that much, but the ladies behind the counter made sure our treasures in our box were packed to endure the long drive home without breaking. I ordered our wedding favors from Honeyville, and they were a huge hit! Almost a month later, I'm still getting texts from our wedding guests about how much they like the honey. Honeyville was incredibly easy to work with, especially Kim. They sent me a sample jar free of charge so I could try it out. We then ordered many jars, half bumbleberry and half cinnamon. The favor-sized jars are cute and little, plus they're under 4 ounces so wedding guests can still bring them home in a carry-on bag without incurring the wrath of TSA. Jars are under $2.50 each and shipping is reasonable. I haven't been to the actual store, but if you want wedding favors that were made in Colorado, I'd definitely recommend Honeyville. read more

This is the #1 reason I am super, SUPER excited to move to Durango. Honey! Before taking me here in person, E told me stories of this place and how good the honey was and how there was even a beehive in the middle of the store. And it lived up to the hype! Honeyville sells their own wildflower honey from their own bees, and all I can say is there must be some damn good wildflowers in Durango because their honey ROCKS! They sell everything imagineable - pure honey, honey mustard (made with their honey), whipped honeys (in flavors like strawberry champagne, mountain peach, and amaretto) and "chocolate buzz" which is honey mixed with chocolate. Absolute decadence. It's perfect for fondue because it is totally tasty and requires no melting. It's also awesome on bananas with a little peanut butter :) On top of the honey, they also have other Colorado products, such as pancake mixes, soaps, and wines and meads. And they let you taste the wine and mead! I got a yummy pomegranate wine from here and I never would have known it was so good if I hadn't been able to sample some. Yay for free samples! Every time I stop in, I buy a ton. Bad news if I'm moving to within a 15 minute drive of it, but hey, we all have our splurges. Must get: honey sticks. A huge bag for for a measly amount of money. First off, this is a novelty store. So everything in it is going to be overpriced, or at the very least, pricier than you might find elsewhere. (Some of the honey flavors are actually available at the local grocery stores for less, but that's not surprising; smart business move, really, because trying a cheaper version first is more likely to entice people to pay more, once they realize it's awesome.) The honey spreads are divine. Period. They have some wonderful flavors, like peach amaretto, that you could spoon right out of the jar. (Not that I would ever do such a thing..) They have samples of everything, so you can taste it all before you buy. You can also get a few of them on sale occasionally, when they make batches that aren't quite up to par. I bought several for reduced prices because someone put the jars down upside down to harden, so all the spread was stuck to the lid, with a bubble of air at the bottom. 20% off for some tasty, unique spreads? I take it. The must-taste, though, is the honey wine. They have everything from sweeter wines to very dry, white and red, and they all have great, unique flavors. I am a fan of the sweeter white wine (and though the beer-loving boyfriend doesn't admit it, he downs it like candy when I'm not looking), so I always buy that, and then attempt valiantly to make it stretch across a longer period of time than a few days. I spectacularly fail, every time. The store also has an online store available, and ships everything they offer, except the wine out-of-state, since alcohol apparently is not allowed to be shipped across state lines. I've ordered gifts for friends and family via their website several times and have always gotten great feedback from the receivers. Recently I placed another order online and after doing so, I got a phone call from a woman who works there (I apologize for not remembering your name!). She wanted to make sure I meant to choose the 3-day UPS shipping option instead of the flat rate option which was less expensive. I explained to her that I was on the fence with which option to go with and decided to just bite the bullet and do the 3-day. She told me when my items would more than likely go out and that they would definitely reach my friends in the same amount of time at the flat rate. So obviously I went with her suggestion and everything worked out great! I don't know of any other business who would call you to make sure you really wanted to pay the higher priced shipping option when the lower priced option would get you the same result and offer to change it for you. Wow this place sure is big time now! I remember when Honeyville was a tiny, dimly lit place that sold yummy honey. Now the store is huge and they have lots and lots of honey items. It's really cool to look around because they have such a great selection of products: butters, jams, sauces, honey sticks... they even sell beeswax for people looking to make their own products. Prices are alright and we were sort of able to see the bees this time around. There weren't too many in the hive for some reason. read more

To address a previous review that stated Honeyville is a "racket", the staff openly admit that they source their honey from others, as they've simply grown to large to do all the beekeeping themselves. I have grown up on their Choke Cherry Jelly. It's my all-time favorite jam/jelly in existence. I decided to venture here while on vacation and decided to try the Choke Cherry whipped honey. Fun to stop when you are driving by on the 550. We have been many, many times. We really like the honey and the syrups and jelly. The kids like the honey sticks and the honey bear lollipops are soooo good. (Get 2) It depends who checks you out how friendly they are - some make you feel so welcome and some the opposite. They have a bathroom and the kids like looking for the queen bee in the hive that is positioned almost in the middle of the store. Used to be that the employee would always give the kids a free beeswax honeybee at checkout and they would play with that wax the entire drive home. This time when the kids asked for them the lady asked if we had a coupon or something for it. I said no and she suddenly said they didn't have any. :( read more
