Stopped very quickly at the Honey Bun Cafe. From the moment I stopped to look at the menu, checkout, and receiving three delicious bao buns, it may have taken 3 minutes max! The staff were friendly and super fast! I ordered all three of the dessert option bao buns. I used to go to this one bao cafe in Canada and miss it dearly. So when I saw that Honey Buns had red bean buns and custard buns, I was super excited! The bao buns were warm and perfectly prepared, and of course, so good!! Honey Bun Cafe has the buns!! I've had this location a few times and it never disappoints. The service has been great each time I've gone too! I usually get a pork bun, veggie bun and chicken bun for variety. I can't say I have a favorite, they all taste different and delicious. I also love their Thai tea, it's super refreshing and the color is fun too lol. I do want to try some of their other options soon too! I usually go to Alley 51 and order from a few places so I try and save some room. But I can't wait to check out the other menu items!! read more

The guy running the register and taking orders was friendly and the lady who was putting orders together was fast! The buns were both delicious (I got the BBQ Bun and the Teriyaki Chicken Bun. We ordered 2 jumbo buns and a Taiwanese noodle soup. The buns have little meat filling, mostly just cheap carbs. The lady was rude. When my 12 year old son picked up the food, he asked for a small bowl so I could split some of the noodles with him. She was putting on her makeup and watching videos on her phone so she refused to help. He explained he wanted to split some of the noodles, and she said she "could not do that." I asked her to give back the tip I gave her and she just waved him away. The other younger guy working there just reach over and gave my so a styrofoam container. Staff is friendly and polite. I've been really wanting to try their siumai but they're always out of stock. Their space is neat and clean. I appreciate the line control barriers they have to control the traffic. Not a big fan of all the styrofoam and plastic waste. But I understand that this is what everyone is doing in Alley 51. I just hoped they would use paper based/earth friendly materials. I've eaten here with 4 times already at separate days. Here's my take. Jumbo Pork Bun 3.5/5 Has pork meatball inside with egg. A little bland for my taste. Bao is a little too thick for me. For something that is called jumbo I expected more filling and not the bao. BBQ Pork Bun 4.5/5 Not the taste I'm used to with cha siu bao but still pretty good and tasty. Just has the right amount of sweetness with the soft bbq pork. One the best baos I've had in the city at an affordable price. Red Bean Bun 3.5/5 Sweet tasty red bean filling but a little too thick of a paste to what I'm used. My wife enjoyed it. This is just my preference. Shrimp Dumpling 2.5/5 They were cold and dry. Shrimp didn't have much flavor. Sweet Rice Dimsum 3/5 I feel like this size was too small. There was a lot of small shrimp but could not taste the mushrooms. Rice was perfectly cooked and sticky goodness. Taiwan Beef Noodle Soup 2/5 I was disappointed by this. There were only few cuts of beef and were a little hard to chew. Broth lacked the beef flavor that I was looking for in a traditional Beef Noodle soup. It was only salty. Bok choy and noodles were cooked pretty well. Overall I would give this place 3/5. As someone who grew up in Asia, dimsum is one of my favorite type of food and I really wanted to like this place but a lot of their dishes lacked the flavor I was looking for. The dumplings are delicious, which is the only reason I kept going back. But unfortunately, the customer service is consistently terrible. This is not the first time I've bought from here, and the girl at the cashier has always been rude and has a bad attitude. She hands you your order almost like she's throwing it at you, and it makes the whole experience uncomfortable. I love the food, but I definitely won't be returning. I hope management addresses this, because customers deserve good service along with good food. read more

I love the other location so was really excited to have this closer to where I live along with other yummy food in Alley 5. I know this is new but there are a few kinks to work out. This location always has a line because people love buns. The menu has less items than the original location, but they still offer buns, a few dim sum, noodles, wonton soup, fried rice and boba tea. I ordered Chinese pork bun, BBQ pork buns, a teriyaki bun, sticky rice and pork fried rice. So far, I've only eaten half because I was full before my full order arrived. The BBQ pork buns are a favorite. Slightly sweet and tender meat in a fluffy dough. The sticky rice is small. Mine was cold and was okay. The pork fried rice was balanced. I needed to add black pepper to mine. So service was a little slower than I expected. They do have pagers but my husband ordered ramen from Yume, received it and finished before my pager went off. It was a 40 minute wait! Then when I go to pick up, I was informed two buns were not ready. I asked if they could just refund and they said they would page me again when the rest ready which was about five minutes later. Also they do have a soda fountain machine but no diet options. On this trip, they were also out of shumai. I do love their buns, but they I don't think they are used to the crowds yet. For now, I prefer the other location. I'll be back because it's hard to find buns. read more

I just love steamed buns! The Chinese bun and Teriyaki were both perfectly cooked. The buns were do soft and chewy. The filling was seasoned well and had a great texture. Comfort and joy streamed in a little package. read more

Honey Buns II located in Alley 51 International Food Hall at Super G Mart Pineville. I love Honey Buns at the Super G Mart on Independence Blvd, so I was excited to try this location. Buns are just as delicious as the first location. Menu is a little smaller at this location, but given the larger size of this food court it makes sense that they would focus more on the buns and take off other menu items. I enjoy their bahn mi from the Independence location, but there is a Vietnamese vendor right next door in the food hall that also has bahn mi...so they just makes sense to leave it off the menu here. Service was very fast and the line moved quickly, but never went away...because their buns are awesome! read more

Food and smoothies are decent. Staff is nice except for the young man with glasses. I assume that he is a "manager" because he was busy counting the register total and the staff turned to him when they screwed up on our order. I use the term "manager" lightly because he truly lack managerial and customer skills. We ordered two smoothies and clearly indicated that we wanted boba and jelly in both drinks. The lady even repeated our order. I didnt pay attention to what was rung up, but I assumed that she rung it up correctly because she repeated our order correctly and the total was a little over $16 for two smoothies. When we got our drinks, my son did not get boba in drink. We told the staff and there was some confusion. The young man asked for our receipt. Thank goodness that we did not throw it away. He pointed out that they only charged us boba and jelly for one drink but gave us extra jelly in the second drink for free. He acted like he did us a favor. Not the point. We wanted boba and jelly in both drinks! He acted like we were troublesome and rudely told us that he will have to charge us. No apologies for the screw up. I never asked for a free handout, so I told him that I will pay the whopping $1.50 for the extra toppings. This is not how you handle messing up a customer's order. The other staff members were nice, but this young man needs to be educated on how to be a better manager! The other lady taking orders at the original Honey Buns was much nicer and can certainly teach him. This new location just lost a loyal customer until we see some improvements! read more
