We have documentation from the company we had to hire to repair our fireplace correctly that he did not fix the issue but only mask it to make another call to our home to fix the original issue. Even they were surprised he tried to fix it as we were told he only cleans chimneys. We were the customer and you, George, ripped us off. Not super thrilled. Cleaned chimney with a vaccum cleaner. Could it reach all the way to the top? I have no idea. Did not go on the roof. Spent about 15-20 minutes total on the job. Worker Detached the glass doors to the fireplace and my 12-year old son had to fix it for us. Also, wasn't too happy walking into the room to see one of the workers sitting on my red sofa watching the other worker work. Felt slightly rude and invasive. Would I walk into your house and sit on your furniture before being invited? read more

We called Honest Abes because the bird guard on top of our chimney cap was loose and making a racket during windy days. We also have pigeons and woodpeckers that like to sit and peck on the bird cage. Chris (great guy) took care of the loose bird cage and then put a series of bird spikes up on the chimney cap that will hopefully dissuade our not so fine feathered friends from coming back. Chris also suggested cleaning out our dryer vent as it most likely had never been cleaned. Price is not cheap but you do get what you pay for. We are very satisfied with the results. read more

He will tell you price includes cleaning the fire logs and firebox but he really means he will just vacuum what he can and call it a day. If its not being removed with a light brush attachment on a shop vac, its not getting removed. He will charge you extra if you have anything in your fireplace other than logs IE: cannon balls or anything else. He, looking to get in and out as fast as possible with no vision of quality or value. You can go buy a shop vac for less and do what he does. This guy is just plan Honest Lazy Abe. read more

Didn't show for 1st appointmen, then 1/2 hour late for next appointmen. No apologies because this is just normal business for a Bad Businessman. Then he is at my house for 15 minutes, doesn't clean the chimney well, doesn't go on the roof to get the top half of chimney clean. Charges more Money than the 3 other companies I contacted. if I could give 0 stars, that would be 10 more than George, the owner deserves. There was Nothing honest about Honest Abe's. These guys did a great job. On time, found and fixed the issue. Neat, professional and courteous. I thought they failed to fix it when I tried my fire place a couple of weeks later. They came back out to show me what I was doing wrong at no cost. That is world class in an age where honest contractors are few and far between. Overcharged to clean and move pilot lighter in gas fireplace. Did not reattach pilot light to grate in new position. Left fireplace looking worse--lighting problem fixed, but a sloppy job. Wife not pleased at all. You can do better than "Hoinest" Abe's. read more

As a general contractor, I hired George to go to my client's home and do a chimney sweep. When George arrived he took the time to look at both of my client's fireplaces and recommended much needed repairs on the chimney caps as well as the condition of the chimney itself. I am so very grateful to have acted on a friends recommendation to.call George to Service and clean out my Electric Dryer Vent. He discovered a blockage way into the oblong shaped pipe that had I hired a coupon company who might use a vacuum could not have dislodged. More importantly, while working, he shared so much important information with me that as a homeowner for over 47 years in 5 homes, I never knew. I plan on having him come on a 18 month schedule because or what I researched from his information. I would definitely choose him for a fireplace and by Air Ducts are NEXT. I know there are coupons out there with add on specials but after seeing what George found and how close I may have come to having a fire. You may get worse than you paid for if they use the wrong equipment and mess up the venting pipe in your walls! Hire the best A Honest Abe's. I have used my fireplace for one winter and we wanted a cleaning done before burning wood again this winter. I chose Honest Abe's and the owner, George, showed up for the appt. He came in with a shop vac with a brush on the end of the hose and began to vacuum the firebox. I assumed he would first get on the roof and clean the chimney from the top down like many other chimney sweeps have done in the past. He said we would not be getting on the roof because he was afraid he would break the roof tile. He left in under 10 minutes. I was on a work conference call and was shocked to learn he left so fast. When I inspected the chimney, it appeared to be untouched about a foot up from the fireplace box. When I called George to confront him he said he could send over his brother to inspect the chimney from the top down, if I was willing to pay $175 for a chimney cap. At first I agreed, but after doing research on chimney caps and seeing them on Amazon for $40 and could be easily installed with 4 screws, I canceled that appt. I don't trust George to be knowledgeable or ethical at any level and would never recommend his company. read more

As a homeowner having never owned a fireplace I was looking to have my fireplace cleaned, chimney swept and the overall system inspected before I used the fireplace. George the owner was quick to respond and quoted $145 for the services I requested. Do not be fooled as I was. The cleaning involved a simple shop vac of the fire box he ran a brushh through the flew and then he flew off. Didn't inspect chimney other than visual from the ground. I asked about the ash box and he said I could just take a shovel and clean it myself. I was left with a fireplace that is still black with soot, and ash box full of ashes and I am still unsure of the chimney. I do not think my expectations were beyond what a normal chimney sweep considers clean but I will not be using Honest Abes again and I would also advise you against it. read more

I hired Honest Abe to clean air vents, dryer vent and chimney cleaned. George started out cleaning air vents. I was told he would vacuum vent then clean with water and his tool until the vent was cleaned. He didn't vacuum some vents and when I asked why he said it didn't need it. The first vent he cleaned twice but as I watched him he only Cleaned once in other vents. He did not add his attachments to most of the vents....I observed him adding attachments to get farther into a vent once...all others were cleaned only as far as he could reach. George vacuumed underneath the handler (heater) but when I looked in it was not a good job and I had to reclean. I'm sure my vents have never been cleaned....I will be recleaning my vents myself. Just to let you know...George does not clean the vents he takes off, I washed them. All of my vents were painted on which was the most difficult part of the job. The bottom line is he was not as thorough as I expected!! We went on the roof to clean the dryer vent which was cleaned as expected. The fireplace...he put the brush up the vent but saw that it was clean and maybe used once so he didn't charge for the fire place which was nice. read more
