We all know and enjoy the Homy Inn for what it is, right? Champagne on tap! Cheap! Phallic themed claw machine! Friendly "familiar" service! My husband and I ended an early evening here mostly for the nostalgia since it had been over four years either one of us had been there. We sat the bar and were helped immediately. I got the sangria on top and honestly it kind of slapped. It was a generous pour, sweet, refreshing. No notes, will be back. I came on a pub crawl and did enjoy my time here. It sure hasn't changed a bit from my hazy memory. I of course had to get the champagne on tap, but to be honest, it is not good. That didn't stop me from drinking it all, and then grabbing a beer before we headed back to the bus. We were on a party bus of about 35 people with our destination as The Homy Inn. It was really fun. They have champagne on tap and the coldest beer in town. Great atmosphere with beer can collections lining the wall along with old posters & old newspaper headlines everywhere. The entire ceiling is covered with memorabilia as well. We tried the strawberry which was great but the peach was my favorite (Georgia girl here) I'm not even a champagne person but you can't go to a place with champagne on tap and not order champagne... I don't care who you are! ;) No food here but patrons ordered pizza across the street and it smelled amazing. They have popcorn and peanuts I believe though. If I had to describe a quintessential dive bar, this would be it. However, it isn't that run down, dirty vibe that one may expect from a dive. In addition to the friendly staff, they have cheap and varied beer (many craft beer options), a few kinds of champagne on tap (I was recommended a mix of strawberry/dry which I thought was solid) and a popcorn machine that gets you your salty fix. I generally love bars that have popcorn so maybe I'm a bit biased. The Homy Inn is a gem and I was so lucky to stumble upon it when my phone ran out of power while I was driving back to my hotel. As a visitor to Omaha I had no idea how to get home so I pulled in to the first lot I saw which was the Homy Inn. I truly lucked out as they had a whole station of phone chargers at the bar. They have prosecco or something akin to it (spumante?) on tap, 3 flavorings: original, strawberry, peach. They have a really, really divey vibe. And man, it's great. What can I really say about the Homy? I have been coming here since I was underage. It hasn't changed. That is a good thing. A really fun and dirty atmosphere. the people that are regulars are a blast and the bartenders are professional. Of course everyone has to have some of the champagne that is on tap. No longer serving peanuts in dog food bowls is kind of disappointing, but that is just how it goes. The Homy Inn was rated by Men's Health magazine as one of the Top 50 dive bars in the US. That says a lot. No longer being able to go to the Saddle Creek Bar drive thru is kind of a bummer too. I digress. the Homy is quaint and cozy with cold beer on tap and in bottle and the drinks are made well. You can have food from Sgt Peffers brought over to you and it fills up quick. Probably Omaha's most famous dive bar. And for good reason. When everyone hears about their champagne on tap, they've got to go and try it. Indeed, this bar is very homy, decorated with old beer cans and -- if you're there early enough to grab a booth -- Omaha, sports and Beatles memorabilia From the old time day drinking regulars to the college kids and out-of-towners on the weekends, the staff is nice and plenty used to dealing with pretty much any crowd. Besides their signature champagne, "The Homy" offers plenty of nice craft beers on tap, including locals, in addition to your typical cocktails. As a tiny bar, this place gets crowded at night and especially during the weekends. It even gets overrun with frat boy types fairly often. Those last two points are atypical of a true dive, which is probably a testament to the Homy's enduring local legacy. One last note: I went here to watch the Huskers play Michigan last year (2012). It was a day game and the place was practically empty. I recommend this place for a nice, laid back game day atmosphere in contrast to the melee that's expected at your dedicated sports bar. read more

I like the homy but since my husband isn't a fan we don't really go there. That being said, it's kind of hit or miss. Usually I like the crowd, but you could end up there on the night of a bachelor/bachelorette/party bus night and that's not quite as fun. Regardless, it's without a doubt more enjoyable since the smoking ban went into effect. What a fun little place this bar is! Totally kickin'! Of course, the first drink I ordered was the champagne on tap, but now there is a new option: add a shot of flavored booze for 2 bucks more! They had Alize and X-rated and some other choices that I don't remember...I wonder why...I also had a delicious root beer flavored drink. The old school look to this place makes it an awesome little hang out. I loved the "garage" feeling, like you had walked into someone's hobby shop. When we arrived it was pumpin'...then we got our hands on the juke box and the place cleared out. It was cool tho - more room to dance :-) For a Sunday night this was one hoppin' joint! I have been frequenting the Homy Inn usually about once a year. Me and my friends come every year around Christmas to catch up and enjoy the champagne on tap! It's the only place I know of that has champagne on tap and also sells it by the pitcher. There's several different flavors and last night they also had a homy-made sangria on tap as well. They also have good shot specials. It's a small place so it can get really crowded but with patience and friendliness you can find a table or share with others. I love the old school decor and laid back vibes, this is a great neighbor bar. Also Sgt Peffers, across the street, will deliver their delicious food to the bar when they are open! read more

Oh, champagne on tap. In theory I love it. In reality, it's a lot of champagne. And the "champagne" part is questionable. Homy Inn offers a variety of flavors of their tap champagne included peach, dry, and sweet. I tried two different flavors and I think it was all pretty sweet, just as an FYI, but the novelty of ordering a pitcher of champagne cannot be denied. Neither can the novelty of this bar in general. A divey place with cool décor, a cooler, local crowd, and free peanuts and popcorn? It's easy to see why so many people enjoy it. And beyond the champagne, they have a pretty decent selection of beers. Pro tip: If you spend over $100 you get a free shirt. read more

I knew I was in for a treat when my Omaha friends and I pulled up at the Mai Tai Lounge only to find it closed, and someone suggested we go to the Homy Inn. "Homy Inn? Oh wow, really? Is that how we want to end the night? I haven't been there in years," came a reply. "Chris, they have champagne on tap here. You can buy it by the glass or the pitcher. We're going." I don't even drink champagne, but if I'm going to start now, I reckoned, it may as well be out of a tap. "I'm in," I replied. (As if I really had a choice.) And within a few short blocks drive, we arrived. Only in Nebraska have I been treated to such awesome throwbacks in time. This place looks like a random outpost of the Wild Wild West. I half expected to see horses tied up with tumbleweeds blowing by. A sign noting The Homy Inn's founding in 1956 assured me that I was about to experience a whole new level of dive bar trolling. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. One thing I have learned in life is that the scarier the dive bar looks from the outside, the nicer the people inside will be. Homy doesn't look all that scary on the outside, but to this City Slicker visiting from out of town, you just can't ever know what to expect until it's too late to retreat. Luckily, this is not a place you retreat from. This is the kind of place you keep coming back to. It's no surprise to me that many of these reviewers have been coming here for years. "Champagne on tap, huh? I've never seen THAT before," I said to Nicole, the bartender. (Or at least in my haze, I think that was her name.) "Of course you haven't. We have a patent on it.
