Med pepperoni (tasty!)
Tim S.

Service on the phone and in person was friendly. I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza. I like the fact that they use both chopped up pepperoni and sliced pepperoni on it. I ate a quarter of it on the way home. They slice it in smaller slices which makes it a great "road pizza". The pizza was good and had a decent price. We'll be back!

Hawaiian Pizza

We ordered the 13" Hawaiian and Veggie pizza with chicken wings for delivery. The pizzas were ready and delivered on time. Both pizzas had plenty of toppings and the crust had a slight crisp to it. The wings were excellent! Great flavor or the seasoning and tender. We would definitely order here again.

Large Hometown special $29

We found our way back. After, 8 years of not knowing, how they fared. Ordered a large Hometown special thru GrubHub since they're not doing deliveries yet. I was totally thrown back, how do you get a crisp crust and still have lots of cheesy gooey toppings? They did it! It was and is so good! And is NOT A artisan trendy joint with all these weird toppings and vegan and etc etc. We miss the old owners but are glad that their friends Anthony and his dad took over this business, they kept the recipe and the customer service and the excellent Food Service. Nice to have a good neighborhood place to support.

New menu (Feb 2023)

Tasty, crispy thin crust pizza with plenty of delicious toppings for a very reasonable price? I'm *so* glad Hometown is back for their grand re-opening. They have a streamlined menu and now take credit cards, too -- they're going to be my go-to place for pizza in SE, for sure. (Bonus tip: check out their house made ranch dressing -- delicious!)

I've only had delivery from Pizza Kat, so I can't say anything about the location, but the food is…read moregreat. Had pizza from here twice during a long stay in Portland, and enjoyed it both times. The first time, we had a pepperoni pizza, a side of meatballs, and grape sorbetto. We liked the meatballs so much that, the second time, we had the Alley Kat pizza and, again, the grape sorbetto. The pizzas were both excellent--good crust with a great chew, good proportions for the toppings, and a cheese that tasted like cheese. (reductive? Maybe, but so much mozzarella is bland and rubbery that it seems worth mentioning.) The grape sorbetto was an excellent way to finish the meal both times: sweet, but not too sweet, and very bright to cleanse the palate.

I hate to write this review because I was genuinely excited to try this place, but with so many…read moregreat pizza options nearby, this one is an easy skip for me. Unfortunately, this was both our first and last visit. I don't think I've ever disliked a pizza before, but this may be the first one I would genuinely call bad. I enjoy wood-fired pizza and don't mind a little char, but somehow this pizza tasted noticeably bitter despite having very little visible charring. Whether it was the lack of sauce, the sauce itself being quite bland, or simply an imbalance of flavors, the end result just wasn't pleasant. The biggest issue is the value. A $25 cheese pizza doesn't need to be life-changing, but it should at least taste better than Costco's. In this case, unfortunately, it didn't. If your goal is to enjoy great pizza, I'd recommend one of the many other pizza spots in the area instead.

The bartender (Ryan!) was super friendly and made me an incredible Añejo old-fashioned with El Tesoro tequila. Turns out, he knew the co-founder of Tequila Ocho years ago and helped in the early days of the additive-free tequila movement. Anyway, the cocktail was well balanced and delicious! It was now happy hour, so I ordered a gluten-free spicy salami pizza. It was one of the best thin crust pizzas I have ever had! I thought about saving some of it for later, but I inhaled the whole thing. The sauce was perfectly proportioned. The spicy salami and cheese blend was incredible. I highly recommend this pizza! I needed a second cocktail, and Ryan made me an incredible Sazerac. Sweet, but no too sweet, and a wonderful way to wrap up my meal.

They have a nice selection of standard pizza and 18 different additional toppings that you can add so it is super easy to get a pizza just the way you like it OR create something never before seen. It up to you! Don't forget to ask about the daily pizza pie they are currently offering. I am gluten free. I am not celiac. I actively avoid gluten. Their GF crust is a great option. I remember the first time I got it I asked the server if this was the GF crust and they said it was. I was like amazing! Note to self: Yelp does not support emoji in reviews. The Shaker part of the restaurant name For me, the craft cocktails here are spectacular! There is a half page menu with 9 well thought out drinks. It changes regularly. Is it seasonally? I don't know. There are tasting notes and even the actual recipe for the drink! I've never seen that before. If something doesn't suit your fancy, ask for something off menu. I've done it several times and always been pleased.

For example, when the Arugula Salad is made well, it is fantastic. However we have had repeated experiences where the greens are not fresh, or the dressing is forgotten, or there is no cheese. We have had repeated issues specifically with takeout orders, over many years. Additionally, if you dine-in, there is an entire bottle of oil on the table that you are encouraged to use on your pizza. It is delicious, and really completes the pizza flavor profile! They used to automatically include two small containers of oil per pizza if you ordered to-go. Current policy appears to be to not include any oil with the pizza (unless explicitly asked) and to only provide a maximum of two oils (even if multiple pizzas are ordered). I don't know if there is an oil shortage or what, but this is silly for a place that charges so much for their pizza. Life of Pie is a typical Portland restaurant that expects you to tip before you receive your food (and also expects you to bus your own table). To me, this expectation alongside with the inconsistency of the food for the price, is disappointing, and does not encourage people to go out of their way to return. When the food is good it is a solid place, however I would expect much more consistency for the price they command.
