The food was very good. I had a chicken salad with blue cheese dressing. The chicken had a mild sauce on it that was excellent. The wings were crisp and good sized. Blue cheese and ranch dressing were very tasty. Plenty of seats inside and a nice outdoor dining area. There was a series of mistakes about our orders. It was clear the young man taking our orders was very new to his position. Sauces were not served on the side as requested so adjustment were made. We ordered a sandwich and received a salad instead. But they produced a sandwich but let us keep the salad. We were also given a guest card for a future visit. They did everything they could to make up for the errors. FOTM holds a special place in my heart. Growing up vegetarian, once I began eating meat I couldn't get over eating chicken off a bone. The OG FOTM on Interstate was the one that finally broke me of that fear and I still view that experience of eating that FOTM wing as my first steps into becoming a foodie. FOTM used to be a regular go to spot for me but I've drifted over the years. The food just doesn't have that same magic that it once did for me. Chicken wasn't as hot or as juicy or as tasty. The smell isn't as intoxicating all while the value proposition seemed to have gotten worse. I occasionally get that nostalgic desire to go back when they advertise their $.50 wing days and went a few days ago and it just doesn't capture that magical feeling that it used to for me. The line was long but it didn't seem as crazy bad as it was maybe a decade ago. The staff actually were really efficient and friendly and got people through the line pretty fast and efficiently which was awesome. But all in all I miss how good FOTM was and how it used to satisfied all my wing cravings, whereas now I feel like the Korean fried chicken spots serve a better product at a similar price with much meatier chicken. read more

As always the food is excellent! Sometimes we just need to have something that's familiar. Food ole reliable. Fire on the Mountain if you haven't been is very consistent. Quality is always good. I decided to try the monthly flavor dry rub. Parmesan. It was ok, not my thing. But I could see why a lot would like. The staff is kind and helpful as usual. The answered my questions and gave me some options for lunch specials. As you walk around you'll notice a lot of local art! The art scene in Portland is top notch and very awesome! So the feel of the place seems vibrant and easy to look at all while not being to busy that you're able to enjoy it. Overall I'll keep coming back to eat here. If you've never been!? I visited Fire on the Mountain for the first time on a Saturday night, which was a mistake. The restaurant is obviously super popular because it was crowded, and there was a line out the door. My friends and I ordered wings and nachos, and the cashier said the wait would be about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it took 40 minutes for our food to come out. I totally understand that they were busy (and perhaps the kitchen was understaffed), but I was getting pretty hungry by the time the food arrived. I wasn't impressed by their food. The menu said that the nachos had items like sour cream, cheese, jalapenos, beans, and tons of other toppings. When they came out, there was one container filled with chips, one with beans, and one with cheese sauce. I assume that the jalapenos and sour cream were blended in with the beans and cheese, but the overall result felt a bit lackluster. When I eat nachos, I want to see and taste each ingredient, not eat a blended bean soup. The chips were not great either - they were oddly thick and lacked flavor. My friend bought a couple of bottles of their sauce. She loved it, but I was not impressed by how vinegar-forward the taste was. I have never been a fan of vinegar-based sauces because I feel that the sharpness and acidity of the vinegar overpowers the sauce's other flavors. This was definitely true here, and I really did not enjoy the flavors. However, if you like vinegar-based sauces (like Tabasco), then you might enjoy Fire on the Mountain's sauces! In addition, their salads cost about $9 or $10 and are pretty small and basic. They are definitely more of a side salad than a main. I wouldn't recommend getting them. I will say this this restaurant has a super cool atmosphere. There are tons of creative decorations, lots of seating, and interesting menu options for food and beer. If you visit, I would recommend going at a less busy time. read more

Dee-freaking-licious!! I've been going here since college so about 20 years but I haven't been back in a long, long time! I'm so glad I did and could introduce my kiddo to this place. It is so freaking good! The pickles with the spicy dip it comes with. The Cajun tots and chicken tenders with the sauce options. Fire! On the mountain lol my daughter loves her bbq wings. This wing joint has been on my list for a long time and I finally got over here. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! We ordered 30 wings and fried pickles and my fiancé got chicken strips. The fried pickles were exactly what you want and the sauce they came with was off the charts good! I've heard about this place for years and finally got to check it out. We ordered 100 wings for a large group. The buffalo mild and medium taste delicious and the lime cilantro is so yummy. They do kind of get mixed up in the presentation but it's ok. The fries are like wingstop fries, if you enjoy those you'll love these. The queso was delicious too. we came here for the $20 for 20 deal and we were slightly mislead. they only had this deal for nuggets or boneless wings, which was not disclosed very clearly so we waited in the line for 20 minutes before finding this out the staff was very kind and patient though which felt very nice considering how packed it was. they went down the line and asked for beer orders so that people could drink while they waited which was very cool and added a nice considerate touch. our food took about 40 minutes. probably because everyone was there for the 20 for 29 deal. we were able to split our wings into 3 different flavors and all of them were amazing. their sides were nice and crunchy but they go pretty light on the seasoning so we had to add more salt on top. i always love fire on the mountain so this was a nice treat despite the long wait and misleading deal read more

This place has been a STAPLE for chicken wings for as long as I can remember. The staff as always friendly and eager to help answer any questions you may have, the seating has remained the same and fits for any environment whether big groups or small groups. The wings are back to being a lot more big and the sauces are always delicious. The raspberry habanero is probably my favorite followed immediately by the like cilantro. I'm still hoping and praying they bring back honey siracha because that was one of the best tasting sauces. My only complaint is the prices. Over the years they seem to keep climbing and it's unfortunate because it's becoming a more of a once in awhile place than an every other week place. Came here recently to watch a football game with some friends. It was a Friday around 4:30pm I appreciated that the cashier told us it would be a 45 minute wait for wings, my guess was they that had a lot of take out since the place was not busy at all. I ordered the vegan drumsticks with buffalo sauce since they seem to be the fan favorite here on Yelp. I was pretty stoked bc as a vegetarian I never get to eat wings. I found the sauce perfectly buffalo-ey and the drumsticks were crunchy with a stringy meat texture. I will say I could only get through about 3 before I got full. Love FOTM! My friends have been coming here for over a year or two now and it's always been a hit. The vibes inside the restaurant are great at all of their locations, and the staff have always been friendly. You order your food and then you're given a number which you take and go sit down at any table. As for the food, the fries are solid. No complaints for the fries (they're actually quite good in my opinion). This time around, we got the Buffalo Hot sauce on the wing with Ranch dip and 1 El Jefe dip. The El Jefe sauce was so tasty but also very spicy. We didn't get the fried oreos this time, but I would recommend those -- they're delicious. I went out and tried FOTM for the first time and I gotta say, it's one of the best places to get wings in town, especially for their lunch special. I believe I paid 15-16 dollars for the lunch special which comes with 6 or 9 wings, fries, and a drink. The flavors I got to try were spicy peanut, bourbon chipotle, and a special they had for the week (I don't remember the name, but it was a dry rub). The flavors were very good and fragrant, but not overpowering. The fries were probably one of the best that I've ever had. It tastes very similar to Wingstop fries which are sweet, salty and savory, but they are super crispy! The staff was very nice and patient as it was my first time. I asked for recommendations and they kindly walked me through their favorites. Overall, the restaurant and seating area is spacious along with great service and great food. I have been here several times, but not in the past year. I was not impressed with my experience last night. Overly crowded and loud. There was a line out the door. While it moved pretty quickly, you had to fight for a place to sit. We were told only after we ordered and paid that it would be a 35-45 minute wait which it was. It would have been good to know that before ordering as we were quite hungry. Ordered some regular fries, which were so salty we could barely eat them. When the wings finally came, they were not the spectacular wings we were used to. Seemed a little undercooked and a hurried order that had two different sauces that were partially mixed together by that point. Tables not bussed and just not enough help all around to handle the crowd. Staff seemed, not unfriendly, but very busy and one was actually pretty rude. But you can find better at Jerry's Tavern or Belmont Inn, both of which will cost you less. The wings are pretty small here, which makes it even more upsetting that they charge so much for them. Even though wing prices have gone up in general, these were a ripoff. $19 for 12 small wings is far too steep by my standards (and a large reason why I mostly eat wings at home now). If I were to come back, the chicken sandwich is a more reasonable deal that I might try but won't be returning for the wings most likely. I came on a Wednesday evening, and it was packed (I can see why) but I managed to grab a table for my boyfriend, and me outside. They have several vegan options to choose from. Not all of their sauces are vegan however, the ones that are are all clearly marked. They even have a vegan ranch, which wasn't on the menu! I tried their lime cilantro vegan wings, and el jefe vegan wings. Both were delicious and very flavorful. They aren't kidding around when they tell you that the El Jefe wings are VERY spicy. As someone who loves anything, and everything extremely spicy, and can tolerate spice very well I can't say that I'm very sure it was worth the major stomach ache I experienced right afterward. I was using it to dunk my fries in. So damn good! The fries were also excellent. Homemade, good mix of crunchy and soggy which is my favorite. Now let's talk about the wings and why this review wasn't a 5 star. The wings were meh. Sauces were good but the wings were TINY! Lacked a whole lot of meat and as a result, they were of course very dry. Also, how you gonna serve me wings with celery but not carrots!? Wing-travesty! Interesting sauce options though that made the dry meat pretty tasty. The perfect end to the meal were those fried Oreos. Basically donuts with an Oreo center.
