The wings are our absolute favorite! We have yet to find a wing place to take its place. I love being able to buy fresh jars of sauce to take home. I appreciate that the kids meals come out ASAP! The service is mid. You order at the counter and are given a table number. I've driven past fire on the mountain so many times and thought, I should stop here sometime. Yesterday I finally did. It was a really great experience for lunch even on a very hot day. The interior of the restaurant was really quite nice looking and very comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I loved the buffalo blue cheese chicken salad I got and the two different IPAs I had were also both excellent. We sat outside in the shade and had a great time. I've viseted the other two locations of Fire on the Mountain many times in the past, and aside from a few favorite menu items, nothing really stood out as extraordinary to me. However, I have to say I've had some really great experiences at the Fremont location in the last few years. I live nearby and tend to frequent this location more often than others. I've met with clients for drinks on the patio in the summer, and celebrated a few of my friends' birthday parties in the upper balcony seating area as well. The staff really go out of their way to support customers, whatever their reason for visiting. I've always felt like a VIP at this location, and really appreciate the time and energy staff put into making customers feel welcome. There's a decent sized parking lot in front, which is rare for many businesses on Fremont. The restaurant is located on a busy busline for those who use public transport. And on nice days, visitors will find plenty of outdoor seating in a private, fenced off area out back. My go-to orders here are Jamaican Jerk boneless chicken with a side of tots - only on cheat days! Also, the the pork nachos are phenomenal... be sure to check them out if you like pork. I had a memory of the name and realized I got to try their beer years ago at a brew fest and liked it so we made an effort to come back and were glad we did. After a long day of hiking and other breweries, Fire on the Mountain ended up being the last brewery visit of our trip together. Fire on the Mountain has a number of locations in the Portland area. What makes them special is the combination of house brewed beer and chicken wings. The restaurant is simple: order at the counter, grab a table, and they'll bring it to you. We sat at a cozy booth next to big windows and enjoyed the evening. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese; friends mostly had wings akin to our days in college from the local wing shop. Their sauces were flavorful, and the food messy, just like we like it. I was a little disappointed they didn't offer flight sizes of their beer - I guess the business model just works better for full pints to go with the chicken. I loved my single beer, an IPA. Too hot of our taste! We also ordered Chicken Wrap with Mild Sauce. The first bite I had, was too hot, I was assuming, they only put it in the center of the wrap. FOTM used to be our happy place. The food quality and flavor were outstanding, the burgers were worth a drive across town, the staff were incredible. Wwwwwoooowwww have things changed. First, no more burgers. Disappointing but not a deal breaker. But so many of the stellar staff are gone, the last three times we went my chicken was so dry it was nearly inedible. Still we support local businesses and kept trying. But the last time (which was, after 8 devoted years even during Covid, the last time) the music was so ear splitting loud we couldn't hear one another at the same table. I asked the manager if he could just take it down a hair. It was just over the line into abusively loud. He mocked me, laughed at me and told me the song was just loud and just forwarded to the next oppressively ear-splitting song. There weren't many patrons, there was nothing buffering that onslaught and he didn't care how unhappy his customers might be, outwardly hostile when asked to just be reasonable. Understand I was a front and center, mosh-pit loving punk. I'm not a delicate flower who can't deal with loud music. But I had noise reducing earbuds in and still felt like I was being tortured. In a time when getting butts in seats is crucial to the survival of a business while this country is in a massive recession, this ego -tripping, pettiness seemed an odd flex. The space a tight with low lighting better for some. Tough for others. The wings were ok. They mixed up my order, did a pick up, and didn't notice until I got back to the house.
