Go with your gut, and then fill your gut for a very fair price. The milkshakes are top tier too. You order fries and then you're like, did you mean to give me this many? This is a roadside diner near the main building of the Oregon Humane Society. I had fries, burger, and a shake. There were a lot of fries. So many that it makes a statement on its own. Thank goodness I wasn't dining alone. Service was great. read more

I would not take kids there. !!! Old man who works there basically kicked us out because our children touched the suction cups on the door that holds the open sign and he said that we didn't realize how much work it takes for them to line those up perfectly so we apologized and went outside and sat at the picnic tables. Then he came out and yelled at us because the kids were standing on the bench of the picnic table.. he asked if he was being unreasonable and we said yes, and then he lost his mind . Very unpleasant experience trying to give our kids a treat after school. We will never return and I'm sure he's totally happy about that . read more

The service was helpful and did their job. The restaurant was clean and an easy location. Now I bet you're asking why a 3? This was my first time here so I decided to order the BBQ bacon burger ( something that looks familiar) I believe my rating is strictly preference only. The food was not bad, but it was definitely not something I would eat again. The burger was very big, which is great. The bacon was cut up and not just slices which is even better. My problem was as there was so much barbecue sauce I couldn't taste anything else. There was so many sautéed onions on top of the sandwich that even trying to take a bite the sandwich would fall apart. My perspective is there's way too many onions on there otherwise I hope this fits somebody's preference. read more

Dear Carnivores, you should not trust me, a Vegetarian, to tell you about burgers and hot dogs, so I'm only talking to my fellow veg-heads here: Raoke's has the best example of a garden burger done diner-style that I have ever found - big, fluffy, fresh bun, generous fresh lettuce, tomato and excellent dill pickle slices, perfectly dressed with a pretty darn good house-made veg-burger patty. The retro diner vibe is cool and the servers are also fresh and friendly. The prices are also retro - like I'm back in 2005 rather than 2025 - $8.75 for burgers, $3.75 for a huge basket of fresh cut fries (suck it, McD's, where a processed-potato medium cup of fries is $3.79 ), and $5.75 for a hand-scooped perfect chocolate malt (and many, many other flavors). Stopped in here on a Saturday. I've driven by this location on Lombard for decades. I was craving a chili burger and figured Roake's has to have that on the menu. Sure enough they did. I couldn't even finish it all (almost did), I was full beyond the usual burger sit down. Burger was good & exactly what you'd want out of one. We also ordered a regular fry (which was huge) I probably ordered the wrong thing, because I got a Rockstar along with the chili burger when I should have ordered a malt. In fact when I stop in again, I'm going to order up a malt along with one of their doubles. The sit down experience actually was memorable. Usually you drop into a place and it's alright, no complaints, but it's nothing that you'll be thinking about the next day (or week) This was different. The music was all 1950s (what would have been KISN FM), the layout & personality seems like it shouldn't exist anymore (especially in NE Portland) Best way to describe it would be the place felt authentic, which it is (beyond being on that stretch of Lombard forever) No reinventing the burger wheel either (with truffle this, or smash that) - for the first time since I can remember, I honestly felt like I was in the old Portland. What I assume was the manager (perhaps owner) was super friendly and made it a point to convey how he wanted you to enjoy your visit. Really the entire experience was above and beyond what I expected upon leaving. And I can't imagine what its like to run any sort of business in Multnomah county these days (props for that alone) This is one of those local places that's being run right & needs to stick around. What a great way to start 2021, with 5 stars! Why is Portland not known as the hotdog capitol of the world yet? We have Otto's (top 10 in US), Olympia Provisions, Japanese/Korean style dogs at Kemuri (must review soon...), Zach's Shack... and now I add this to the list of honor..., so good! $5 for a footlong, nice. Good, friendly service to boot. Got one with mustard, sweet relish and onion (of course!). The dog was meaty and had the exact right flavor. The casing had a bit of stretch to it more than a snap, but you knew there was a casing there, for sure. The bun was really excellent, held up perfectly, was toasted nicely. Secret: On the way out, I asked if I could buy some dogs for home, uncooked. There was some confusion as, apparently, nobody asks for that. Well, that all got sorted and I brought home six really nice footlongs for $9, which is quite reasonable for good footlongs that are about twice the size of a normal dog. I had gotten lost on a bike ride and this was a happy accident. Not sure I can make it all the way out here often, but I will definitely be back for a dog and for some more to bring home.
