Now the new owner Sarah is just as good as she worked there for many years before purchasing. The food is fabulous; homemade bread with every meal. The salad bar is a favorite of mine: greens are cut, crisp and cold. there are many options of meat, and fresh veggies. Salad dresssings homemade! Don't trust their website, not kept updated. Came in for a couple slices of pizza for lunch takeout and while I was here at 1:30 and their website says slices available from 11 until 3pm. They only do it from 11-1pm. Waitress did not offer a solution. When told that the website was different, response was yeah the website is not kept updated.... read more

Even though the prices are high, I recommend just getting a cup of coffee and having some doughnuts, cookies, etc., which they do well. We only ever go because we want to eat while in Oroville, when nothing else good is open, & my friends don't like Mexican. The savory food is awful, over & over again... the cook adds too much salt (& I love salt) to everything, as if to cover up their inability to cook decent food. Maybe the pizza's okay - never tried it. I always try something different, trying to believe that anything on the menu is good. Yesterday it was a "grinder," which is supposed to mean Italian meats (plural) with provolone &/or mozzarella, on an Italian roll, with at least tomatoes, & oil/vinegar. The one I was served yesterday cost 17.00 after tax & adding french fries. It was simply a few slices of cheap salami with overly salty tomato sauce & cheese. I bought a house near Oroville during height of covid. At first I would go in for breakfast sandwich & 2 Ice Cold Coors Light in a frosty mug. After a few times I had a nice conversation with the only waitress Sarah. I'm pretty sure she only talked to me because she was bored & I was the only one there! (Come on she's super nice as well as beautiful!) Maybe 2 years later I asked how it was going & I thought she was going to say she was quitting but then Sarah said she was actually taking over from the former owners. Oh thank the Lord! Since then I have eaten there MANY times & Got Pizza to Go MANY times. Sarah challenged me to have the Chicken Sandwich with Franks Hot Sauce! EXCELLENT. I have eaten many other things including Lazzagna & The Beef Strog. when available. I miss talking to Sarah as much but she is BUSY and working extremely hard to run a restaraunt! Anyone who has run any small business knows how difficult that is to do. I am super impressed by her! As a "new" westie transplant I go out of my way to support local businesses. I've run a small business & we had to fold it after 2 years. To any nay sayers maybe be a little less harsh ? Oroville isn't an easy place to keep a business going. I only give the Hometown Pizza & Pasta four stars, because the dining room was a little too dark for my taste, which made it hard for my old eyes to read the menu. However, that is my only complaint, as the food and the service were top notch! My wife and I enjoyed the pizza with the works, and it was a bit of heaven! The crust was delicious, with just the right balance of of crispy and chewy texture. They also have a wide variety of other menu items, and a case full of sweet baked goods, too. If you get the chance to visit Oroville, I highly recommend that you stop in here for a bite. read more

Maybe the best breakfast sandwich I have ever eaten? It was well constructed, hot and had amazing flavors. I ordered the sausage on a croissant. It came on what looked like a ciabatta roll, which I was not thrilled initially. But it was a in house super soft and flaky version that is perfect size and shape for a sandwich. The pizza here used to be excellent, now it's only ok. We actually had a pizza from Papa Murphy's a few days after our visit here and thought it was better. If you dine here, stick to the pizza - my companion had the Beef Stroganoff and it was horrible- no sauce, tough meat, a real disappointment. read more

Out-of-towner review: We ordered the garlic and pepperoni pizza, breadsticks, and a variety of pastries. We're from Portland, so we're used to having access to pretty high-quality food. The pizza was okay. The bottom was a bit doughy and there was too much cheese. This made for an overall rubbery texture. But, all things considered, it was better than expected. The breadsticks were barely warm and the sauce was cold. The woman we ordered from said they'd bring the food out to our car (to help with social distancing), but when we went in to check on it 20 mins later, we found the food sitting on the counter. So, it might have been hot at some point, but wasn't when we got it. I was really looking forward to a sweet treat, and thought we'd hit the jackpot because everything in the display looked so good. Unfortunately, it was all sickly sweet and lacked flavor. I have a major sweet tooth, but was barely able to finish the pastries because they were sweet enough to make me feel sick. I went to Hometown Pizza twice in one day. That's how much I liked it! Stopped by in the afternoon and picked up an assortment of fresh donuts and some bulk candy. I can go to a whole variety of donut shops where I live. I have to say these donuts were absolutely heavenly! Fresh, gooey and so delicious. My favorite was the raspberry cream cheese brioche. We decided to come back and pick up pizza and pasta for dinner. Where do I start? The pizza had a wonderful thick crispy crust and a fresh tomato and herb sauce. We ordered spaghetti and meatballs plus the fettuccine with bacon, mushrooms and cream sauce. My kids were thrilled. I stole a few bites and then a few more. This place is a must! I also need to add that the service was fantastic on both visits. Everyone working was so incredibly friendly. We will be back for sure, maybe even tomorrow read more

Ordered three pizza's and calamari. 1 medium combination, 1 personal light cheese, 1 personal greek garden, 1 order calamari. All pizzas were very dough heavy which made it difficult to eat another piece as it was very filling. The cheese pizza was over cooked and my niece was not happy. The reason why I did not rate lower was due to the calamari which was very tasty. It's too bad the pizza was like eating a loaf of bread with pizza toppings. UPDATE: this place never disappoints! Arrived just as they opened and was able to get a huge box of donuts quickly. The cinnamon twists are amazing! If you like yeast donuts, this is the place to visit. They even have a clearance rack for donuts/pastries that didn't sell the day before...which I go to first and basically get everything because they donuts are still good warmed in the oven or microwave. One day we may actually try the regular food I hear it's pretty good too. read more

We stopped in and figured the usual small town food. Boy were we wrong!!! Big surprise on the quality and freshness. Veggie Pesto pasta for my wife and mushroom bacon pasta for my son. I had a Cobb salad and a calzone. They had a local(like from town) beer on tap that was spectacular. Super nice folks and friendly. Will definitely go again when I'm back north to Canada to visit family. Worth the 969 mile drive. read more

This establishment is owned by a woman who evidently does not care if her pizza meets with the expectations of her patrons; case in point - this evening we ordered a large Hawaiian and drove home with it only to find one side of the crust was burned while the opposite side was VOID of any cheese - AND I MEAN NONE. I called and spoke with the manager, explained the issue, and was told to bring it back for a replacement pizza. Surprisingly, when we tried to return the pizza the OWNER said it was fine - I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EARS. She actually sells pizza with burned crusts and calls is good. I took a picture but can't upload it here or I would show the world what I am speaking of. We drove all the way back to town with the burnt, missing-cheese pizza only to have this person tell us it was done right. WOW! She might know how to cook but she definitely does not know how to make her customers happy. I told her on the phone, when I called back the second time, that she had lost a customer; her reply, "that's fine". Having had pizza from N.Y. to L.A. I can tell you, "HOMETOWN PIZZA NEEDS TO REVAMP THEIR IDEA OF WHAT IS THE "RIGHT AMOUNT OF CHEESE" - their idea of how much cheese to put on a LARGE PIZZA is lacking and chintzy. Pizza without ENOUGH CHEESE TO COME CLOSE TO THE EDGE SUCKS. We got stuck in Oroville unexpectedly due to weather, and came to Hometown Pizza for dinner only to find they were hosting a formal RSVP only dinner event- we figured we'd need to go somewhere else, but the people working here were so kind and got us a table immediately anyway! They offered to serve us either regular menu items or the special menu they were serving for that event, and even threw in some free desserts from their bakery which certainly brightened up our evening! Went here with my family on a Sat night, the place was practically empty and they said it would be a 20 min wait to seat us. Finally got seated after 20 mins, ordered our pizza and the pizza was completely raw dough. We had to re order the pizza and they said it would be out in 7min. Another 20 min later we just asked them to put it in a togo box and we left. The service was terrible and the servers were not friendly. The nicest people in town who cater to everyone with a personal touch and extra effort to please. Between the wildfires and the closed border, we did not have many options on where to dine but Hometown was by far the best. They owners are selling to the manager at the end of the year but all took time to make sure our to-go and our eat in dinners were liked. The pizza was good-full of cheese, toppings, and sauce. It is a thicker crust than a typical Italian slice. The subs were really well done-especially the bread that I believe they make on the premise. The burger was also a good hometown meal. Before you think we are just pumping their menu, I can attest to these things because we ate dinners from Hometown on three nights. I highly recommend that you do not miss their best part-breakfast pastries/doughnuts. The owner used to work at a bakery in a North Bend and it shows! The doughnuts were fantastic and so were the morning buns-yes, we went to Hometown for breakfast twice! The friendly greetings/service with decent food makes this place a true gem. read more

My husband and I stopped in on our way from Seattle to ski in Canada and were pleasantly surprised by this little bakery/pizza joint! We had a good pizza with a decent beer selection. Don't judge this book by its cover, inside is warm and clean and smells of baked goods. The pizza crust was just pretty good, but the toppings were creative and generous.
