They then asked for a review and were very unpleasant when I give my feedback. My room was dated and the couch was falling in, the tiles were chipped and cracked in bathroom and kitchen. We meet for dinner on a Thursday night and then participate in an all day meeting on Friday. I have found my entire volunteer effort to be rewarding and am grateful for this modest opportunity to give back to the College that was such a key piece of my long career. I'm happy to make the long trip from Northern Nevada, but there are expenses to consider. In particular, hotel space during the recent Homecoming weekend was both sparse and expensive. I planned for this by making my reservation (almost a year in advance) further away from Iowa City towards Cedar Rapids. At the time, the Hotel with the best combination of proximity (maybe 30 minutes away) and price was this Residence Inn by Marriott. The Hotel was easily accessible off (and on) the 33rd Avenue exit off I-380, with easy parking, and short drives to various dining options. I found the Lobby/Breakfast area to be comfortable and welcoming. The free hot breakfast was also more diverse and interesting than I've come to expect. During my 3-night stay, it was clear that other Hawkeye fans had the same idea, although we were in the minority to the various trades guest who were staying here. My room was very spacious and relaxing. I appreciated the division between bedroom and Livingroom, and a nice Kitchen. The showers were strong and hot, and with good Wi-Fi. My only quibbles were that the Livingroom was a little dark (even when fully lit) and I should have asked for maid service at least once within my 3-day stay. I'll be back in the Iowa City area next April and October. Room availability will probably be easier in Iowa City next Spring, but you just might find me here for the next Homecoming. Go Hawks!

I have to agree ---this has to be by far the best hotel experience that I have ever had for the very reasonable price!!! Everyone here is super friendly! It was VERY clean. Offering a FREE breakfast every morning which included - eggs cooked in a variety of ways, waffles, french toast, bacon / sausage --- plus the typical free breakfast items most hotels offer. The indoor pool is emaculate and warm and the jacuzzi is HOT with great jets--- VERY CLEAN! I used the pool 2x a day and I usually had the pool to myself early in the mornings and late in the evenings. The hotel room was big with nice counter space, drawers, a fridge, sink, coffee pot, and a microwave with popcorn! The TV is a huge flat screen on a swivel with a large desk to work on or to conveniently store our suitcases on. Free Wi-Fi. Free bottled water. Tea and coffee served all day with fresh fruit and yummy cookies in the afternoon. The hotel is conveniently located near a variety of great restaurants, a flower gardened park to walk to, 2 movie theaters, and all types of shopping. My only very small compliant is that the room key needed to be reset numerous times.

The hotel is outdated and needs a facelift for sure. Gotta step up your room service. 3 days with no service. Would definitely stay here again as the ac is ice cold.

The hotel staff was friendly from check in to check out. The room was very spacious and the layout was really great! There is an entry way with a large closet on one side and large bathroom on the other. The bed faced the windows and there was a large desk behind the bed with plenty of space to spread out. King sized bed was comfortable. Large TV with smart streaming options and a mini bar area with coffee pot, microwave and mini-fridge. Water pressure was good, temperature nice and hot, towels fluffy and large enough to encircle a normal sized human. AC worked really well in the room and it was hot out so that was nice to come back to. I ordered coffee and breakfast my first morning which took longer than expected, but the food was tasty. Coffee left a lot to be desired.

Played in the pool with our grandson in the afternoon. Our server was really friendly for dinner and the food was pretty good. Large grassy lawn for dogs out back. Very dog friendly. Although I would hope they would clean the poop for a $75 pet fee. So disappointing these hotels let us bring our pets and some people don't bother cleaning after their pets. It's so rude to the next dog owner. And to the establishment. I would raise the fee too. But then I would clean up after irresponsible dog owners so the next people don't have to risk stepping in it. Other than that it was the perfect stay. They really make you feel at home.

We decided to stay overnight here to break up the 8 hour drive back from Wisconsin. The room with 2…read moreQueen beds was pretty standard but nice - decent mattress, plenty of pillows, mini fridge... The complimentary breakfast was fine quality of food-wise, but had fewer offerings/options than many of the similarly priced hotels I've stayed at. There was a waffle station, scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, dry cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, white milk, and juice. I will caution that if you stay in the main hotel area and not the "pool view" area, it is quite a trek to the pool and breakfast area. We had to go up three floors, walk the full length of the hotel, and then cross the skywalk to get there. If you have mobility issues or little kids it's a good idea to pay the extra money for a much closer room. The pool/bar/rec area where breakfast is served is really nice. Pool table, darts, Foosball, and video games keep the kids busy while you have a drink at the bar. I have 2 complaints. 1 - the hot tub was the temperature I made my kids bath water when they were little (and no I'm not a sadist.) 2 - the steakhouse they still advertise as their on-site restaurant has been closed for over two years. They have frozen pizza, wings, and burgers available at the bar but that's it.

The dresser in the hallway outside was covered in dust. Got another room but it was only one queen when we wanted two. On the way to the room, the musty smell got worse and worse and it continued into the room. Every hotel door was dirty, dented and disgusting. The room was not cleaned:splashes on the bathroom mirror (from previous people), toilet not cleaned and had little hairs on it, bottom of the entertainment center was covered in dust, ceiling peeling, cobwebs on ceiling, closet door track dirty and rusty, caulking in bathroom just gross and was dirty. Pictures attached. We will not be eating our free breakfast tomorrow nor will I be showering there. I will clean myself at our next hotel that we KNOW is good. Btw, the desk clerk couldn't comp us with ANYTHING since we paid on Priceline. We've been using Priceline for YEARS and this place was horribly misrepresented. Can't wait until tomorrow!

My stay was unfortunately impacted by issues outside of the hotel's control. A blackout affected the area on the day of my stay - including the gas stations across the street. When it was fixed, apparently the phone lines got crossed - the next morning, my room was flooded with calls asking me if this was the Fairfield Inn & Suites from customers seeking to make a reservation. I walked downstairs and let the front desk know - they said they weren't receiving calls at all this morning and were trying to diagnose the issue. They were extremely apologetic, another sign of great customer service. Rooms were very clean. I would stay here again! Edit: Forgot to add, even the housekeeping staff were diligent in making sure customers were okay during the blackout. That was greatly appreciated and they deserve credit for that.
