Upon arrival the staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. After two flights coming from Knoxville, I was tired and ready to hit my bed and relax. I was promptly checked in, asked if I was in need of anything, and shown to my room. Since it was mid afternoon and I knew the dinner hour would soon be approaching, I asked the concierge where the best place to eat was. I knew Cedar Rapids had some restaurants worth checking out (thanks Yelpers!), but I always like to hear recommendations from those who live in the area. I had to giggle to myself when he recommended the Olive Garden and TGI Friday's. I felt like a total food snob. So, I politely thanked him and made my way to my room. The room itself was quite spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and everything was extremely clean. The hotel also offers a complimentary breakfast in the morning. Nothing exciting - continental style with the added bonus of a waffle maker. It was great for grabbing something on the go. The hotel also had a pool and small workout room (which I shockingly used). Again - everything was in great shape and very clean. Although I would only travel to Cedar Rapids for work (and for those of you thinking it, it's nothing like the movie "Cedar Rapids") I would definitely stay at the Hawthorn Suites. It's clean, the staff is friendly and there's an Olive Garden nearby. ;)

The free wi-fi was frustrating because the network would drop the connection if your device went to sleep, and you had to re-enter the access code. Additionally, I felt that the waffles at the free breakfast were good, but the eggs and other breakfast meats were not appetizing. However, the rooms were clean, spacious, and it was convenient to have a refrigerator and microwave.

This home is beautiful inside and out, the rooms are spacious plus the beds are oh so soft and comfortable. The location is perfect, especially its closeness to the college my daughter attends, making it the most suitable and satisfying stay for us all. Our time spent was filled with peace, joy & comfort. On the early mornings and evenings, we would get in a little cardio by walking around the quiet, clean well-kept neighborhood or just to sit out on the patio and relax in a cool serene environment. All I can say is this is just a rare find, unique location top tier service and great host. This little paradise you have created is understated. I enjoyed every bit of my time there, it is the perfect choice when staying in Mount Vernon IOWA. I highly recommend this place. It's truly a gem. I also want to pray for you and your family that you will succeed in all your ventures, as you continue to be a blessing to others. -PKM-

Incredible visit at Brackett House. Beautiful older home, well maintained, and very comfortable…read more Simple, clean lines with lots of porches and sitting areas - not fancy or overly full of decorations (which is what I prefer). We had a great time visiting here and were so grateful for the innkeeper, Kim, who was gracious, funny, and very attentive to our needs - really a lovely person. There was also a nice lady who maintained the rooms. Everything was nice: big fluffy white towels; excellent Continental breakfast; tea and cookies for an after dinner snack. The B&B is on the edge of the Cornell College campus and about a 5+ min walk from downtown Mr. Vernon (with a charming main street). For anyone visiting Mt Vernon I would highly recommend you contact Brackett House for a stay. I would love to return and enjoy this relaxing house again!

One thing that makes this location stand out from many others nearby is that they have a working hot tub. It's not the greatest, but it does the trick. The breakfast buffet experience was lackluster, at best. At 10am, all the tables had yet to be cleaned and the buffet itself was running on fumes. I didn't eat.

For a Cedar Rapids, Iowa hotel restaurant - I'm blown away. I might make a return trip just for the Oreo cheesecake.
