Strawberry Crumble Cake!
Brenda J.

Great service and presentation combined with delicious food creates an awesome dining experience in my opinion. This dessert did disappoint (definitely shareable). And I appreciate the presentation with winning tic-tac-toe--nice touch & showed extra effort. I dined on the Clubhouse level--you can still order desserts featured in the Steakhouse. Alan--very attentive server w/o being overly present. (Striking the right balance is an art.)

Filet Mignon 10oz and bacon Mac n cheese.

Had an awesome time this weekend! The staff was entertaining and the food was amazing. The filet mignon was cooked properly and had so much flavor. The bacon Mac & cheese could bring a tear to your eye, it was so good. The drinks were strong and the convenience of horse betting was even stronger. I also haven't had a cheesecake hit all the right spots like that in a while. You will not be disappointed with Homestretch, definitely give it a try! Two thumbs up!

6 oz filet with veggie side.

We enjoyed a nice meal with cocktails while dining in the bar area. Scot took wonderful care of us, as usual. The food and service are consistently good. On this trip, we enjoyed the wedge salad, French onion soup, 6 oz filet, lobster tail and veggies. All was very tasty! Tip: go before dark on good weather days so you can enjoy the nice view of the track and the grounds (with or without horse racing).

As our weekend wound down, we all decided we wanted to go out for a special dinner. The suggestion came to check out Ron Lahody's Trust Your Butcher Steakhouse. It's about four blocks, easily within walking distance for most and with street parking around for those not able to walk that distance, from the Courtyard and I have to admit I was in for something a bit more premium. Lahody grew up around the meat business, though entered it a bit later after some time in the Marines, graduating from Ball State, working in the family business, and then spending 22 years in home remodeling. Finally, he opened Lahody meats in 2008 and then years later made it to the actual steakhouse business. Lahody still owns Lahody Meats in Muncie, recently opened a steakhouse in Anderson, and yet this spot is the original. As a wheelchair user, I was definitely looking for something wheelchair friendly. Downtown Muncie tends to be older and you can never be certain. I'd gone wheeling around the area the day before and was pretty sure this would be safe. We made our reservation for the end of our work day and then headed over to the steakhouse. I instantly fell in love with the place. It's intimate yet finely decorated. It has the traditional steakhouse vibe with a wood, warm environment, a nicely done bar area, and a couple spots that were clearly made for accessibility. We were placed in one of those booth/tables - small yet nicely sized and none of us ever felt over-cramped. I sat at the end of the booth while my friends took the inside seats. Our server, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was wonderful from beginning to end. The young woman was very friendly and helpful. Service was nicely paced, attentive, and never intrusive. It's worth noting that while you can eat somewhat modestly here, and they do have specials, this really is a higher-end steakhouse designed for premium dining. We ordered a couple appetizers at $15 each - candied bacon and green tomatoes. I had never tried candied bacon and kind of fell in love with it. My two peers enjoyed the green tomatoes. My peers enjoyed alcohol, a couple brews each with a solid variety available, and I enjoyed my usual unsweetened iced tea. We all ordered steaks, a definite rarity for me. One peer went for filet mignon. Myself and the other for a New York Strip. You get two sides with a steak. I saw they had roasted potatoes, an absolute favorite of mine, and I doubled an order for my two sides. Lahody himself was in-house. He's an older gent, silver-haired yet impeccably dressed. He was introducing himself to customers and sitting at the end of the bar when I left. When he thanked you for coming, the gratitude felt sincere. Service? Top-notch. Accessibility? I didn't visit the restroom, however, everything was accessible and comfortable. The steak? Oh my, I haven't had a steak this good in a long time. It was cooked as ordered and prepared beautifully. The roasted potatoes were nicely seasoned and simply sublime. This was a definite splurge for me, however, as we were celebrating finishing up a non-profit film it felt like a beautiful way to celebrate with friends in an environment where I felt welcome. There's no question I'll return.

I can definitely understand why people will tailgate just to get in for dinner. We started off with the meatballs, the pork loin, and the pierogies. The pork loin is a must get, and the other others were delicious as well. For my entrée, I got the pork loin as well because it was so good as an appetizer, and before that I started with the tomato soup, which was also excellent. Addison was our waiter and was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We had a party of over 10 people and he handled it flawlessly. If you're in the mood for something out of the city in a little bit of a change of pace, I would highly recommend trying here.

The short rib pierogis were one of the best things I've eaten- the horseradish sauce pairs perfectly with the savory beef. I got the daily special which was a filet mignon meatloaf. It was so tender, but the Demi glaze is what made it perfect, sweet & savory. All meals are served with a cup of tomato soup or a wedge salad with the best candied pork belly on top. The jalapeño cornbread had the consistency of a moist cake. If I had to pick between Bonge's or the famous St. Elmo's, I'm picking Bonge's every time.

I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

As a result I tried a Bullet bourbon, special barrel, that was very nice. My husband had the Bloody Mary My husband had his heart fixed on a 42 ounce pork chop. I agreed to share. Two sides and a wedge. The wedge was like a head of lettuce with blue cheese, bacon and tomato quarters. Very fresh and nice Our waiter warned us that a party of 36 was upstairs and wanted to take our dinner right away. We wanted to enjoy our drinks first. He tried to work it out but I have to admit we felt rushed Next was our pork. To me it was a plate of lard. It was pork back and a small pork chop. The pork back was all fat and about 1/3 of the chop was fat I could not eat it and my husband said it was good. (I think to save face because he had longed for a big pork chop.) The sides were sweet potato casserole and broccoli rabe. Sweet potato was to sweet to enjoy and broccoli was swimming in garlic butter Neither was good When the waiter asked how we enjoyed our meal, I asked if always that fat. He apologized and said I am afraid so. I told him how much I disliked it but my husband ate some of it and thought it was good My husband said to bring a desert menu since I ate so little. The waiter suggested the carrot cake and then asked if we wanted to go. We said no and wanted coffee to enjoy with it He brought lovely fresh press coffee. Poured it and then started clearing our table. I asked if he was hurrying us and said just trying to stay ahead of the crowd $200 check our expectations we're not met but we feel there are better meats on the menu and will try again.
