Hometown place with good breakfast. Feels like a step back in time. Want to go back and try dinner menu. Looks like food I grew up on.

I can definitely understand why people will tailgate just to get in for dinner. We started off with the meatballs, the pork loin, and the pierogies. The pork loin is a must get, and the other others were delicious as well. For my entrée, I got the pork loin as well because it was so good as an appetizer, and before that I started with the tomato soup, which was also excellent. Addison was our waiter and was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We had a party of over 10 people and he handled it flawlessly. If you're in the mood for something out of the city in a little bit of a change of pace, I would highly recommend trying here.

The short rib pierogis were one of the best things I've eaten- the horseradish sauce pairs perfectly with the savory beef. I got the daily special which was a filet mignon meatloaf. It was so tender, but the Demi glaze is what made it perfect, sweet & savory. All meals are served with a cup of tomato soup or a wedge salad with the best candied pork belly on top. The jalapeño cornbread had the consistency of a moist cake. If I had to pick between Bonge's or the famous St. Elmo's, I'm picking Bonge's every time.

The outdoor seating was packed so we sat inside with simple decor and a casual bar. The workers were friendly and helpful. We asked for recommendations and our server gave us some great options. The food was delicious, especially the lemon chicken entree, but the small plates were overpriced for the portions. However, for the quality of the food, we will come here again!

First of all, the space is amazing; it's open yet tastefully designed. For starters, we shared their homemade BBQ chips. I was informed it was served with ranch but noticed they charge $1 for it which seems nitpicky. It would make more sense to just add it to the price of the dish. For our mains, I went with Creole steak and eggs and hubs the Apple skillet with a side of eggs. His was essentially French toast that was prepared in a cast iron pan and the apples were delectable. The accompanying apple and bacon was perfection. My dish was essentially an egg Benedict served on a fried green tomato and topped with a filet (that was definitely not med-rare as requested) and served with a divine Creole sauce. We both ordered their rooibos mocktail which was so good that I wish they sold it. It's the perfect summertime tea. I ordered their peach butter cake to go but it did not live up to the quality of the rest of the meal so I would skip that. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and will be back try additional items on the menu.

I do think that perhaps many of the ratings are a bit higher than our experience. It could have been an off day for the kitchen team. I do suspect however that the food quality, and preparation is consistent and it just didn't quite meet what I would consider a four/five. I have travelled quite a bit throughout the world, had some really awful things and some high end, highly rated meals/places. It is simply decorated, and was reasonably clean. The server staff was friendly and effective, no issues with any of that. They even calmly managed to navigate a power outage that occurred, fortunately right after we got our meals delivered. I got a BPT sandwich and fries, and ordered a side of coleslaw. The slaw was actually pretty well done, crispy, just enough sweet to balance with the tang of vinegar. Where they fell off a bit on execution (or product choice) was the BPT. It was more of a fritter (likely frozen) vs. a pounded actual fresh pork tenderloin cut. It was thin, a bit "bready" throughout (not just coating). The bun was a tad bit stale, but they had toasted it as a good move to counter that. My wife got a turkey ranch wrap with fries. The name could easily be changed to ranch and hint of turkey wrap. The turkey prep is small cubes (may or may not be a Sysco bag of cubes type product), and there was simply too much ranch dressing, the cheese and vegetables were lost in a too wet, undisciplined glop inside of a spongy tortilla. It looks okay, but just doesn't hold up in actual eating. I wish them continued success, but I don't think we would be likely to stop again as we pass through the area.

I did see they allow you to make reservations on Open Table, so I booked it for a weekday to try it out. It wasn't nearly as busy as the parking lot looked, there was plenty of seating. It was a nice day so they had the windows open and they also had someone playing live music so it was a tad loud but, not overly loud where you can't hear your conversation. The menu is not your typical menu, it's very crafty if that's a word. The service was very good, and she explained the menu well and we took her up on her recommendations. Turkey pastrami which I had never had before. It tastes really fresh and felt healthy. The salad comes in a little small bowl but full of goodness. It's a really nice place for a girls night out, or a family dinner. Wouldn't consider it a good place for date night as it is pretty loud.

Upon entering I noticed how cute the decor was and how open it was. The kitchen is even behind glass so you can see most of it from your table. This place would be awesome for groups. The servers wear whatever makes them comfortable and fits their style which is a nice touch to the theme. But where the home runs were was the food. We had a hard time deciding on an appetizer as they all sounded so good. We went with the wagyu pigs in a blanket. They are cooked perfectly and seasoned well and juicy. I got the chicken katsu sandwich on Japanese milk bread and o my gosh it was so flavorful and I like anything else you can find around. The breading is light and not overly crunchy. I still think about that sandwich. Hubby ordered the short ribs and he said they were flavorful and tender and juicy. I can't express how amazing the food is here. You just have to give it a try. It's worth it.
