First off it is no longer the homestead it's a place called Penney's home style cookings. Before Even entering the building, the floor boards to the ramp/ poach to get inside were so old and lifted, I tripped and nearly fell right on my face in multiple spots, and that's not even getting in the building yet. When you walk in there's no clear direction on what to do, if you seat yourselves or have to wait to get seated. So my partner and I sat at the counter taking it as the safest bet to be seen to be served on. And after sitting down, couldn't even comfortably have my legs under the counter to eat because the counter was so short you have to sit sideways. We got drinks and closed our menus as a sign that we were ready to order. Another couple came in and sat next to us about 10-15 mins after we got there. That couple had their orders taken well before us and got their food well before us even with us being there near 15 mins before them. It was not busy and it took a while for the food to come out. No one spoke to us at all, was not a very welcoming place or staff. The food came out and was not good at all, I got a simple plate of scrambled eggs, chocolate chip pancakes, and hash browns. The hash browns were very blan and mushy were not crispy at all and just felt every sick after eating. No one checked on us after we got our food or checked to see if we needed something else to drink. Yah the meal was cheap, but it was not good at all. This is the yokels breakfast joint. Don't even try and get in here on Sunday morning after 10am. And you have to be quick and claim a table- no ones going to sit you. This place is definitely North Country. The restaurant is a converted house (I'm not kidding), and the tables are fold out. That said, if you can handle a greasy spoon, its worth it. They are very well priced, and have home town, made by your momma type fare. You're going to want to have one of the specials, and definitely pie. read more

We REALLY liked this place! The wait staff was friendly and accommodating, and our food was made to perfection. My husband had the "Garbage Omelet" and I had the French Toast, which was thick sliced and yummy. We also had their biscuits and gravy which were a "North Country" take on a southern favorite, but equally delicious. When ordering juice, know that the large glasses are BIG. I had a medium and couldn't finish it. The place was consistently busy with locals, always a good sign, especially since it's off the beaten path. Homestead Plattsburgh offers some 'meh' brunch fare at amazingly low prices. I was quite excited to try their brunch food reading the great reviews, but found that I shared the hash with two eggs special and requested for biscuits and beef gravy on the side. I like my eggs over-easy and this was the one part they delivered that was very fresh, tasty and "on point." The gravy had too much sodium and the biscuit was HUGE, but very dry. Corned beef hash was good, but still very heavy with the sodium The environment is definitely very casual with a country-feel. Service was all right, nothing to rave home about. All in all, I am very sorry to report a very 'meh' experience at the Homestead Plattsburgh. read more

Cooking staff weren't wearing masks when preparing food. Social distancing was not enforced and the capacity was not limited.

From the outside, this mobile-home diner looks homey and inviting. The inside is just that and full of locals, which usually is a good sign. We ordered breakfast -- an omelette with a side of hash browns, pancakes, two coffees and an orange juice. We never got the hash browns and one of the coffees. It took well over 10 minutes for the waitress to bring us our bill. The food wasn't great or terrible (although the home fries lacked personality), but you couldn't beat the price; our bill was $14. Best homestyle restaurant around! Always packed on a weekday morning with locals and college students, but tables open up fast so the wait's not usually too bad. The have the usual white/wheat/rye section of breads, but they also feature homemade bread, which is a thick sliced sourdough like bread. Very tasty. Good food at good prices. Also has a GREAT selection of pies; there's usually 15-20 different types available. read more

Last time I went here, the food was under cooked and my scrambled eggs were slimy. Since the new owners took over this place, the food is not once what it used to be. This used to be my favorite place to have breakfast but the last few years, the food is just nasty now. I won't be going back. read more

In years past before the homestead was sold, it was the best place to go for home cooked food and low prices. you could hardley get a seat for breakfast. Now that its under new ownership for the past few years it has gone way way down. I stopped going there and cannot recommend it to anyone read more

I go here for breakfast whenever I am in Plattsburgh. This place is the perfect American diner. The fried bread dough ois awesome - as is everything I've ever eaten there. Do yourself a favor - if you are in/near Plattsburgh, NY, eat at the Homestead. You will be very happy you did! read more

My main reason for going here is the price. I can't even make food at home for less than this place costs for a meal. The quality, from my experience, is decent: nothing to write home about, but for the price, it really can't be beat. Coffee is decent, waitstaff are friendly, service is fast enough, all in all, a good experience. They serve breakfast all day which is great because I just LOVE breakfast. Definitely a nice change from Perkins that doesn't hit the wallet nearly as hard. read more
