Let me start by saying that I second a lot of what people are saying about Carlos: in that, he…read morecomes off as a nice guy, he has a nice crew, and he has a drone that he flies over your house when searching for an issue on your roof. Where I disagree with the other reviews concerns Carlos' ability to deliver results. Because in my case, he simply did not deliver results. To be clear, I paid Carlos $1,600 to FIND and REPAIR the source of a leak above my upstairs bathroom. He came out, flew his drone around, and told me that he found the issue. After doing some work on the roof, he then told me that he found the issue and fixed it. A couple months later, still had the leak. He subsequently sent a crew member out to find the source of the continued leak. The crew member went up to the roof, did some work, and told me that he found the issue (a different issue than Carlos first found) and fixed it. Still, the leak continued, and only became worse over time (see attached photo). For a while, Carlos talked a good game about coming back out to repair the leak after I sent him photos and videos of the fact that the leak was still not repaired. But he never showed any sense of urgency about scheduling to come back out. There was always an excuse as to why we would have to schedule for "next week" or sometime in the future instead of just making it a priority to come back out and get the job done. Then, the last time we spoke, he proposed opening up the ceiling in my bathroom to find the leak, but ghosted me after making that drastic suggestion and after I requested a partial (not even a full) refund. I then had another company from Bergenfield come out that immediately found the source of the leak and fixed it for several hundreds of dollars less than what Carlos charged me. For me at least (as I can't speak for others' experience), Carlos is a business owner who can't deliver results, and who ghosts you and keeps your money when you call him on it, even after you inform him that you will sue him (which, I will) if he doesn't provide a refund. Not my kind of guy, not my kind of business.

All construction projects have rough spots but in my opinion Argen is an exceptional and unusual contractor for their knowledge, reliability and fairness. Luis Gonzalez has assembled a seasoned, professional team of his own staff and major subcontractors from more than 15 years of continuous work in the region. They can provide end-to-end service with transparent pricing. They have a large list of customer references who were willing to quickly verify Argen's work. No other GC I saw -- larger or smaller -- had comparable accessible references. Argen won't provide hand-holding, they can provide only basic design consulting, and I found I was responsible for significant detail -- Argen won't substitute for an architect or project manager for medium and larger projects. Communication is not perfect but they work across voice, text, and the cloud and are more responsive than most. They work quickly and efficiently. The flip of this is you must plan ahead and ask important questions to keep up. My project is ongoing through 2019, so I'll seek to update this post and you can factor that into this review.
