The…read moremost recent was to pick up an online order, and as always, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I personally like that the store has a sort of corner shop vibe although it's not exactly small. The store is airways well lit and aisles are clearly labeled, and again the staff here have been exceptionally helpful. The news BBQ section in the back atrium is impressive even if I'm not the biggest cook in the family. And I also saw a custom shirt section although by the looks of it, I may be able to customise more than t-shirts. I hope they keep improving and stay open for a long time.

When we first walked in, my thoughts were, 'they're not going to have plumbing parts...' I was totally wrong. This hardware store has it all - everything you expect in a local hardware store and then some. The entry to the store is filled with unique items for your home, trinkets, and gifts. It's a visual delight. Then you get into the heart of the store and there you'll find housewares and small appliances, landscape supplies, light bulbs...the list goes on. They even offer refills of cleaning supplies for environmentally conscious shoppers. Don't forget about upstairs which houses the plumbing supplies amongst other things. Sometimes even lower. That really doesn't matter though, because the helpful service I receive here more than makes up for a few extra pennies. The staff are super friendly and have helped me with lots of projects along the way. I needed a weird part that wasn't available anywhere else and they found it for me in their storeroom and gifted it to me. I needed a certain type of paint on a holiday-eve and they spent the extra time going through their stash to find a suitable product. When the entire northeast region is out of salt and they have a shipment coming in, they were willing to make arrangements so that some was waiting for me when I showed up that evening. And when I need advice (and honestly, it seems to be always) they are a lot more reliable and useful than trying to randomly search Youtube. It is the smaller hardware stores that provide what most do it yourselfers (read: amateurs) really need: attention. Because of that, I will keep coming back to here.

But this store caught my attention when I saw an ad for them on TV. They claimed that they have items not found in other stores. They also emphasized that they offer friendly and readily available service. Today, in search of a particular style cabinet knob, after nothing met my wife's satisfaction in Lowe's, Home Depot, and several other stores, we tried Chance's on our way through Latham. The first thing we noticed was a friendly greeting from an employee helping another customer in the parking lot. Walking through the store we saw everything very well organized and nicely displayed in a clean environment. Once we found what we were in search of, we met that same welcoming employee (owner?) from the parking lot on our way to the register. He was truly friendly and made the shopping experience a pleasure. The item we purchased could have been ordered for less from Lowe's, but it was not available today and we've never received such a sincere welcome in any big-box store. There is definitely truth in advertising from Chance's Hardware store.

Allerdice strikes the perfect balance--big enough to have just about everything you need, from power tools and paint, to grills, bird feeders, and even gifts, but small enough to feel welcoming. The well-organized layout makes it easy to find what you're looking for, and if you need a hand, the familiar, friendly staff is always ready to help. The young people who work in the store are always polite and helpful - and willing to help you heft bags of rocks, soil and cement in the back of your truck. The gift shop is a hidden gem, offering unique finds. I have found wonderful home decor items and gifts there, and the stock is always fresh. Allerdice is a far cry from the big-box warehouse experience. Their personal touch keeps me coming back. One of the things I appreciate is the familiar faces behind the counter and on the floor. The same employees have been helping customers for years, creating a true hometown experience. I'd have given 5 stars but the recent customer service experience is something not to be repeated…read more We were next in line at their customer service/pickup/return station. Out of the two registers open at the time, one was occupied with a customer who appeared to have bought dozens of things. By all accounts, the staff at the other register was making small talk with the customer and their child while waiting on something. Two other staff walked through the area and none asked or offered to assist while we waited for what seemed like about 10 minutes. What I expected was someone to acknowledge us and at least give the impression that they cared. Otherwise, I generally have a decent experience here and using the self-checkout helps circumvent predicaments like above. Their outdoor garden centre and indoor plants are comparable to others in the area in terms of selection and pricing, and staff have generally been helpful. I hope they continue to improve.
