Looking back getting Visiting Angels involved earlier would have avoided many of the challenges. Their aides were exceptionally diligent and compassionate. They worked with the nurses from the hospital system's palliative and later hospice care teams. The Visiting Angels scheduling team was also able to increase coverage as needed and were always just a call away, 24x7. The Visiting Angels were able to meet mom's daily care needs and provided a tremendous sense of relief. With Visiting Angels taking care of the ADL's, I was able to focus on managing the overall care (scheduling and taking her to appointments, paying her bills), while visiting angels took care of the day-to-day care needs at home. If you're in doubt that Visiting Angels can deliver, lets this ease your concern - they can. To Visiting Angels Chadds Ford, PA, thank you so much!

When they were in the grocery store he said he was hungry so she offered to buy him soup. That was't enough - he ask her to buy him a hoagie! Really, who does that? She bought them because she wasn't sure what would happen if she didn't. Would he have left her at the store? The most recent 'angel' took her to the grocery store also. When they returned home a couple things fell out of the bag and were overlooked. Honest mistake. When mom called to get this resolved they said the products would be dropped off next day. Never happened. Next phone call they said the drivers car was stolen. What does that have to do with it? I called and spoke to the very rude owner, he was annoyed that I called to complain and told me it wasn't worth his time for a once monthly visit and she should never call again. This is a service for older people and they are not concerned about the type of service they provide? Customers are the ones paying for the service so their voice matters. I do not recommend this agency.

VISITING ANGELS IS DANGEROUS TO THE LIVING. Where to start?…read moreMaybe the fact the live in caregivers have no idea what they are doing. Plainly written instructions. Dad's meds are on one side of the kitchen in 28 dated, labeled bottles (two for each day we were gone.) The dogs meds are in a daily dispenser (M-F) container next to the fridge. Quote, Caregiver, "I almost gave the dog your dad's meds. I don't know which is which." Other plainly written instructions, feed the dogs once daily. "The dogs are pooping in the house." Me: Are you feeding them once daily? "No, twice." Here is this real kicker: We come home, all windows open, AC running, dryer sheets scattered on the floor. Obviously there has a burning on the stove top which blackened the wall unit microwave above and killed it. Small melted spot, digital display frozen, unit inoperable. Blackened pan in dishwasher. When asking the manager/owner about it, he looked into it and returned telling me neither of the care givers knows what happened. Both claimed to never have used the microwave. Considering a large portion of the microwaveable vegetables I stocked up on for Dad are gone, this is a lie. So, we are out a microwave. Owner made reparations in the amount of $600 for our trouble. I could have sued him out of business. I'm glad my Dad and dogs are still alive but under no circumstances do I recommend using this outfit to care for anything you own. Parents, pets, even plants. There was dog crap hardened on the floor when we returned and there was no effort to clean up. Negative stars for this crap non-caring outfit.

My sister or I were almost always also present, but we needed an aide to assist with bathing, toileting, and so the family caregiver could sleep at night. We hired BAYADA aides for approximately 2 1/2 months during the COVID-19 pandemic, until my mother died. As a retired hospice employee, I have seen many home health care agencies, and had previously used two other Wilmington companies for Mom's care. BAYADA's private duty home health aides are far and away better trained and of higher caliber than any other such agency I've seen! PROs: 1) Services began very quickly, just 24 hours after I contacted the agency. 2) The office staff were organized and responsive. 3) Aides were consistently pleasant, respectful, on time, had good hygiene, reliable. The very few times we had problems, the office accepted our concerns and removed that aide from our schedule. 4) Aides were well-trained and enjoyed their job and their employment at BAYADA. 5) Generally positive attitudes! CONS: 1) In 2 1/2 months, we were unable to settle down to a schedule with less than five aides/week covering the 24/7 schedule, as we'd hoped. There were several factors that complicated scheduling, including: COVID-19, we had a large dog, our location (N. Wilmington.) The constant parade of new aides who each required orientation at the beginning of each shift, was tiring. 2) It is nearly impossible for an agency to guarantee 24/7 coverage and not have gaps. There were two times that employees did not show up, but the employee ending her shift needed to leave. If a family member had not been present, my mother might have been left alone. [although company policy states that the aide cannot leave until her replacement arrives, some of these aides were hurrying to another job or to care for their own child.] In sum, however, I was very, very pleased with BAYADA's private duty aide service.
