Donuts are awesome but the packaging job was a zero. Ask for the box not the bag every-time! We only bought 4 donuts - 2 sour cream & 2 Bavarian cream. The girl packed them on their side across the bottom of the bag. They were wedged in and the chocolate came off both donuts. I even made a comment how to pack and she just looked at me like I was stupid. So $4 down the drain. She could have put 2 sour cream laying flat and then the 2 Bavarian creams on top which would have saved them both. If you are going to put a tip jar on the counter then care a little bit more! We've tipped before but no more. These donuts were mucky/wet and looked unappealing which ruined the experience of eating them. read more

From Arlington Heights, in Joliet to pick up my daughter from the train station. Decided to stop by, have a donut, and work while I wait for her. The service is friendly and good. Prices are reasonable. The inside seating has the pleasant feel of an old time diner. I ordered the blueberry cake donut and it was quite good. I tried this place for the first time yesterday. I feel like I made a mistake by not going earlier, because I think some of the better flavors probably sell out quicker. The girl working the counter was super friendly, and made great suggestions. My favorite donut that I tried was probably the cherry flavored one. The last time I had something similar was from Thornton's gas station and I really liked it. I was happy to find it again. The caramel apple was also delicious, it reminded me of an apple pie filing inside. It was not overly sweet either. The honey dip was pretty good. It's very similar to a plain, old-fashioned, just slightly different. I have not tried the sprinkled one yet, but I'm sure it's also good. The donut shop is nice, I believe they are open 24 hours and they are very reasonable. Four donuts only cost me $6.15. Great prices!! read more

They actually had an apple fritter! Here is what did not work: The donuts . I took a bite of my apple fritter, and the edges had a burnt taste that I still can't get rid of. I tried it closer to the center... it was ok...not worth the sugar hit. I tossed 90% of it. The buttermilk donut tasted like it was stale and day old. I took one bite and threw the rest away The cherry cake donut flavor. Cherry flavor can be a hard one to get right..the flavor of this tasted like cough syrup. When your main business is 'a thing' and that 'thing' isn't done well- well, that is too bad. read more

Wow! For years my Partner in crime and I have been on the search for great donuts. While some things change, my search for great doughnuts has not and it has lead me here to Home Cut Donuts! A friend told me about this place. Said it's old school and it's been around for a long time. Classic donuts made fresh with great coffee. Sounds like my kind of place!!! Let's check it out..... The place itself is small with an old school glass case for display and the old racks of donuts on display behind the counter. There is a small counter which seems to have a handful of men who were early morning regulars. I would go early too. The chocolate glazed is so fresh and sinfully delicious. Melts in your mouth. The cinnamon roll is gigantic as well as the apple fritter both taste like heaven with the spice of grandma's kitchen. Haven't tried any others at the moment. Another update. Showed up after work, didn't work a full shift because that's what the plant called for, so I showed up at 4 in the morning. Well, nothing was fresh. a chocolate cream that just came out of the back while I was waiting at the counter was not hot and it was OK. Angel cream eclair? I ate that second. Had I eaten that first, I would've thrown the whole bag into the garbage. It tasted old, dry , the cream tasted old like they've been sitting in the display case for a month, which I know it's not true. But I'm completely done with them. I've given them a chance after chance and I know my options were a little limited because it was the middle of the night, but I think the next time I have a craving in the middle of the night I'll just go without a doughnut. Once upon a time this place was fantastic. I have no idea what happened and I'm not coming back. I guess they're happy producing mediocrity. Donut Den and others are light years ahead. read more
