I love this Home Consignment - very well-organized and lots of options to select from. I've purchased two new leather couches from here that would have been much more expensive at retail. I just will go there and browse items when I'm in the area. They are very friendly but let you do your thing. They have delivery at cost or will hold your purchase until you can pick-up. I've been to San Carlos and Danville locations which have a weird vibe - they don't greet you but it's apparent they are watching you. It's like I'm going to grab an armoire and jet out the door? I wish I had avoided this place at all cost. I emailed them photos of items and they replied with a quote and instructions as to how to bring them in. I said great "see you tomorrow." We arrived today with the items, wait in line for a while, and are told "no we're not taking any chairs.. we're full no chairs." My husband even showed them the email FROM YESTERDAY, but it didn't matter. We kept a U-Haul for an extra day and spent gas to drive it all the way to their store from Monterey County. So I've been coming here to see if I can ever find a good deal, which I have not been able to. Everything is very expensive for a consignment store. I went in the other day and saw they had a second hand Louis Vuitton bag that I have as well. Out of curiosity I asked the price, why was it priced $1000 more than the bag is at the store? And it was used!? So now I've realized that maybe it's a cool place to find unique stuff here and there, but you're not going to find a good "deal" if that's what you're interested in. This location has a lot more inventory and stuff to look at versus the Danville location! Lots of dining table options that the other one didn't. I could spend hours in here looking at all the used stuff! They have a huge selection of pre loved couches and just about everything you can think of. I can't really speak to the customer service because no one really offered help while I was there browsing and also I didn't end up buying anything. read more

Sentimental items of value were difficult to get rid of as we cleaned out to set up a spare bedroom. The process was made easier by consigning them and using the money for the new room. And, we'll go back to the Home consignment center looking for appropriate furniture. read more

We've been hitting this store about once a month for 2 years. We have completely furnished and decorated our home from there. Honestly, we have bought over 60 separate items there and that counts the dining table and 6 chairs as 1 thing. Furniture, mirrors, some art, all kinds of stuff. And even paying the delivery charges I can confidently say that we've saved 80 cents on every dollar the stuff would have cost retail and/or new. They still have lots of stuff I'd never own but the jewels and gems are there. The people are always helpful too. Fun fact/ one of our first purchases was a tidy 6-drawer dresser. Turns out it is the exact same one I bought for my granddaughter 16 years ago. Not one like it, the very same one! I guess I really like it! read more

One star for the sales staff. The sales staff is unbelievably unhelpful. Took the tag to the sales person at the counter. She started to ring up my item and another customer came and asked to put a love seat on hold. She acknowledged her, nodded yes and said she would be right there. I asked if I should put a second chair on hold and another sales lady stated that was not an option because it was a weekend. That's was annoying because why was it ok for the an other customer but not me? Then after my sales was rung up, the current sales lady asked if I was taking the chair today? I said yes ,then she said "go ask a mover for help" Excuse me? I guess that's my job now? At this point 3 sales ladies were standing around. I asked for a manager and the mentioned he "John" just left. So I proceeded to find an in store mover but how in the heck am I supposed to know who or where to find such a person! No one wears any I.D. so...wth! I went back to the 3 women standing at the counter gossiping and stated I needed help finding a mover. Original Sales lady said she would page someone at that point. (Good idea genius) A good sales person would have factored that in from the beginning. Lame. Apparently, the poor guy just clocked out for lunch but was gracious enough to help and another mover helped out too as the chair was heavy. The men ( movers) were careful and more helpful than those three females that were present. Not sure why the sales staff is so dismissive and unhelpful. It's never been like this at this store. In the past I've had a good experience shopping here but this current sales staff was truly cringeworthy for this establishment. Side note, I give 5 stars for the movers. HCC get your workers for Identifying t-shirts if your sales staff expects the customer to seek out movers. Same maybe said for that dreadful sales staff. read more

Filled out their contact page and uploaded six photos of items to sell. Received an email confirmation that I'd have a possible value in 24-48 hrs. Was in the middle of moving with a tight time schedule so timing would work. After 48 hrs and no response, I called and got voicemail which was full and hung up on me. Called again and same thing but got an email address. Emailed them right away about my submittal 4 days earlier with no reply and my time constraint. No response. Four days later was my move day and I had no choice but to give away my items (downsizing). After 5pm that same day, I finally received an email from them saying they can take my items and expect to get $590-$820 for them depending on condition (condition was like new!). At this time, it was too late as I had already given the items away for free on FB marketplace. Had I known it would take them a full week to get back to me, I would have taken a different route. Very disappointing first time experience with them and the inability to talk to a real person. A full voicemail likely means they are exceptionally busy, but then they should manage expectations by changing the timeframe for a reply shown on their website. There are two other parties out there who are happy with their free furniture items. That's the only bright spot! read more

At least 5 saleswomen standing around. NOBODY offers to help. I go up to the group of these disinterested door stops and ask for help. One with dark hair turns around, annoyed. Waves her hand in the air and says bookshelves are everywhere and goes back to ignoring me. Rude and lazy. Customers should not have to beg for help when they are the only customer in the store and there are all these sales pros, standing around around doing nothing to assist. They are all old enough to know better. These are not teenagers at an ice cream shop. This business sells nice home furnishings, jewelry and pricey hand bags. When you work for a store, you represent that store. I had a great experience with a staff member at WALMART last month. It wasn't his job, or even his department. But he was awesome. These unmotivated paperweights could learn something from him. Maybe they would do better to hire a more motivated staff, like that kid at Walmart that helped me when I went to buy legos for the neighbor's kid for Christmas. Its not an imposition to take care of customers. It's you JOB. Send this group home to watch TV. Then they can talk all day and it won't frustrate any good people that are just trying to buy something in your store. The reason I am most upset is this is not the first and only time this has happened. Years in between visits and it is always the same. The other locations are not like this. San Carlos has, imho, the best staff. They hustle and show how much they care about their customers. It is one of the best places to get great deals and unique pieces. read more

This store is a bit shady, be aware of your assigned merchandise may never get sold based on the appraised price quoted in contract. Then no payment for 5 months and you had to inquired on the payment. Worse yet, after getting the payment the checks were returned with insufficient funds. I feel this is a scam operation and out $1200. Will be reporting this shady practice to the Consumer Affairs Bureau. read more

I was able to sell 9 out 11 furniture items from my Mom's estate. Nancy was my consignment estimator. Very like able person. We were able to agree on consignment prices quickly. You just have to realize you will not be getting a lot of money vs slogging it out on craigslist or ebay or FB marketplace. I think I got about $1000 on $3000 worth of used but in excellent condition lamps and furniture. My payments came about 2 weeks of selling. read more

i was shocked by what happened to me today. I had a chair there to be sold. It didn't sell and when I checked a few weeks ago I told them to reduce the price. Well today we went to pick it up to bring it to Habitat for Humanity Restore in San Jose. They were interested in getting the donation. It seems like there is a whole new staff there. The nice salesperson that helped me apologized for not discounting the chair. She said that they are new and learning the ropes. They advertise their jewelry and handbag section as top quality at great prices. Well a saw a crystal handbag that I thought my daughter would like and questioned the price. They charged me $300 for a handbag that sells new too for $129.!!!!! The jewelry and handbags section must overcharge on many items, not just this one. I think that they are promoting pricing that must be higher than other places. BUYER BEWARE read more

It can be hit or miss. The prices were OK though the selection was underwhelming and not cohesively curated for my taste.

I had 1/2 a truck of items picked up from my house. There were 4 Persian rugs that they could not give a quote until they inspected them in person. The truck driver picked all the items up and someone was supposed to contact me to see if I agree with the offer price. No one called or emailed me so about a week later I asked if they were done with that appraisal. They had sold the real Persian rugs with leather banding for next to nothing! They did not have my agreement. One sales lady was honest and told me as they were coming off the truck, a customer saw them and offered a low price for all of them. The sales lady said "no" to the low price and told her they were not priced yet. But the next day, they indeed sold them without contacting me (and the embarrassed sales person knew it was way undervalued). I wrote a complaint to the owners and local manager, but no one answered my email. Hence, my review. I gave supporting data for the other rugs in their store at 4 times the price and inferior quality. All I wanted was the price that the other rugs were marked or to give up their 1/2 of what was collected because they did not have a contract for those items. read more

I went to this place with my friend to look for some chairs. I have bought thing here before and liked both the products and the service. BUT. I noticed that my friend who is brown was treaded VERY differently than I was. VERY DIFFERENTLY. She was left to wait as the employees helped other (white) customers who arrived after her. It was a strange mix of being followed and being ignored. I have to say, I am white and I have never experienced this before. I had no idea that this could happen in California. It took me longer than it should have to realize what was happening. It was so very bad and so very obvious, to the point that I could not explain it away. I really had no idea (to my shame). So bonus points for this business educating a white lady about racist micro aggressions. In summary, use your moral compass when you go to this business. The furniture is great, the jewelry is nice and the lesson in racism is free!! read more

I consign in the jewelry department. On occasion, I will walk around the store. I want to keep coming here because on occasion they have nice things. Sometimes not often, well priced. My point of contention with this particular home consignment store is that if you are brown- the home consignment area of the store, the personnel treat you poorly- consistently-if you are not white. Three different instances, three different personnel that come to mind happened as follows: I was standing by myself waiting to purchase an item. When the sales person noticed me, another person was walking over to the counter. She asked how she can help me, with no greeting. I indicated I was waiting to purchase the item on the counter. At which point she replied "ok"turned to the other woman, who happened to be Caucasian, and asked "And how are you sweetie?" I want to point out-I am purchasing something at the counter. I am very well dressed.The other woman is asking a question in leisure wear. I do not deem a greeting as a paying customer. To add insult to injury, I sign for my item, and she asks me if I've got it. No bag, no attempt at bubble wrapping. I look at her and say "Would you please wrap it ? May I get a bag or box? The item was not small, not some thing I can fit in my purse. Had I put it in my car without it being in a bag it would have rolled around it. I cannot even grasp what the sales person was thinking. It seems like asking for a bag or a box, is too much to ask as a paying customer. Another occasion I was waiting at the counter again to purchase some thing, waiting my turn, When the sales person notices that there is a line forming at the counter, they walk over and they ask the Caucasian person behind me, how can they help them and are they ready to check out. I indicate very nicely I am next in line. No greeting again. At another time I was at the jewelry counter, purchasing some thing, I asked the young lady for pen and a paper, she nervously said "you don't know nowadays when someone's asking you for a pen and paper..." - I said "Excuse me? "she replied "Well it is the jewelry counter..." I don't know what happens at the store every day, I don't recommend, not only because of that, The way that they treat your items if they haven't immediately sold is sad. They place things on top of other things, they push your stuff behind large pieces of furniture. Etc. Some things are broken. Granted people no longer want these items but if they are in a consignment store they're hoping to make a little money off of their item. So on that note, I also do not recommend consigning with the home consignment part of the store. read more

First time and the last time I will come to this store. Service was horrible. No welcome or assistance at all. The workers were just talking to each other and kept giving a nasty look at us as they never seen colored people at all. Store smelled like marijuana which was unsettling. I REALLY want to give this store 5 stars because I loved the inventory they have in there. I loved it so much I was ready to buy a beautiful dresser for my daughters room ($299 - great price!); a king size headboard ($159 - great price again!); and a glass table for my entry way ($249- awesome price!). After doing a walk around and measuring items and taking pictures because I was ready to buy these things, I went to the front to see if I could get some help with my purchase. As I went to the front of the store and the woman at the register was helping another woman. So I waited patiently and began reading their large sign about delivery, holds, pickups, etc. After I read the sign, I continued to stand there and wait patiently till the woman at the register was done. As I waited for approximately 10 mins, I noticed that 3 other women walked out of their back area, saw that I was standing there. Not a single woman acknowledged me. There was no one else waiting in line. The store had maybe 5 other customers walking around shopping. And yet , not even a "hello, thank you for waiting, we'll be right with you." Not even, "did you have any questions about anything?" I was ready to buy these items right there and then and thought that this was a place I'm going to recommend to others and start buying the rest of my furniture I need there. But the fact that I couldn't even get an acknowledgment or a kind request to wait just a few more minutes was appalling and disappointing. It's a bummer because I thought I found the perfect place for furniture for my place and was ready to also use this place as a source for my CEO to purchase our office furniture but the customer service was a huge turn off. I'm not going to discourage people from shopping here but I hope this will be seen by the owners and encourage them to reassess and train on the importance of customer service. read more

Advantage of having many used choices at one location. Regular radio advertising. I keep hearing on the radio station the good quality and fantastic price home Furniture and jewelry, so I just had to check it out myself. White leather couch $1,599, see picture, similar but with recliner white leather from private party $499. Leather couch and love seat $2,600, private seller $599. Wooden Anwar $299, I picked up all wood bedroom set of simular color and equal quality for $699 which included headboad, foot board, two end tables, an amwar and 6' dresser, see pictures. Wooden Head Board  $599 Basic men's Wed band 18k, 8.9 grams $499, same style ring in local retail store $199. It is always good to check on line to comparison shop. They are not bad quality but are priced for and would be better suited for Stanford and San Francisco shoppers. This is my own personal experience and just wanted to investigate the situation I don't warranty any of their products but I have enjoyed the bedroom set and furniture I picked up getting lots of good use out of it. read more

Where do I begin. Back in June I took multiple furniture and art items in for consignment. I signed a contract and was told that I would be notified when any of my items sold, for how much, and when I should expect to receive a check. I was never notified if an item had been sold, and the check I did receive didn't list anywhere on it what item it was for so I had no record of what had sold and what they still had. I had to call or stop by and even then they couldn't locate some of my items and said, "Things get moved around all the time, or stolen." WHAT? Fast forward to today, October 20th. I received a call two days ago saying that three of my items hadn't sold and had reached 113 days and were going to be donated unless I came to pick them up by Friday. Today I went in to claim my items and the plan was to put them on Ebay. They located one of my items, but after much searching, I was told by one of the employees that he saw someone steal my two art pieces a few days ago. Well the timing doesn't add up, neither did anything else. So basically after I was given the option to pick them up, they were stolen? Hmmm. And to top it off, they will at some point issue me a check for 50% of the original price they placed on the pieces. Why should I only get 50% of the value after my items were stolen while in their possession? Lesson learned. read more

My Mom shops here all the time. We are looking for new couches for our apartment and we decided to take a look at the offerings here. We didn't find what we looking for but I am impressed at all the heirloom-quality items here. Everytime I come here I am impressed at all the quality goods here, it's a virtual mausoleum of quality merchandise! When I get a place of my own I'll make a note to look for nice stuff here. All their pieces are of good quality and I'm sure the people who run this store are excellent curators. I for one am very impressed. read more

I like this business. I recently bought an end table and found Linda helpful and personable. The price was reasonable and they helped me fit it in my car. I do not understand why anyone would say they are rude. That was not my experience. I am not sure what merchandise they will take for consignment or the percentage the charge. I queried about a 19th-century solid oak table with beautiful lion feet. Their interest was less than enthusiastic but not rude. Perhaps, I would do better at an antique shop as this is an antique and solid oak (no veneer). Also, I value solid wood and carpentry That is not the trend nowadays. read more

I can not recommend this company at all. The whole process of selling our furniture with Home Consignment Center was a huge inconvenience and hassle. My husband was told to email pictures of our furniture and they did not respond. He resent them two more times with no response. I had to call the store and resend the pictures while someone waited at the computer to receive them. After waiting on hold for over 10 minutes for the manager to review the pictures, I was told they were interested in consigning our furniture. They explained that I had to take the furniture to their store or I could pay for and use their third party vendor to pick up our furniture and deliver it to the store. It cost me $118.00 for that. Home Consignment Center said they would be getting in touch with me when they received my furniture and would let me know what they felt it would sell for. They said I would receive 50% of the proceeds of the sale. No one ever called me after receiving our furniture. I was never informed what they were going to list and sell my furniture for. I called the store 3 days after they picked up my furniture to confirm they had received it and they said they had no record of our furniture. I had to speak to the consignment manager to get everything sorted out. As it turned out they sold my furniture 2 days after receiving it for $499.00 without informing me they listed for this price and without having a contract signed. If I hadn't have called, I would never been informed that they had received and sold my furniture. What an unethical business! We had to wait 1 month before receiving our check for $249.50. So with all the time spent trying to work with this company we only made $131.50 on furniture that originally cost us $2400.00. My husband and I wish we would have donated the furniture to a shelter or Habitat for Humanity. The whole process of consigning with Home Consignment Center was too time consuming, an inconvenience and too much trouble. read more

I recently went to Home Consignment Center on Hamilton Ave. I found the store to be overly crowded, making close examination of their offerings impossible. That said I was able to find a love seat and headboard that I could use. I saw a smudge on thee love seat which I was able to clean, but it disappointed me that I ended up paying top dollar for a soiled piece. The headboard was over priced but perfect (or so I thought) for my space. I'm remodeling, so it took over a month for me to realize that the headboard was mis-labelled as a queen size when it was actually for a king sized bed. Not only that, there was a large stain on the fabric. Not noticeable until I took it outside to sell it to someone with a larger bed. Since the window for return was only a week, I had lost that opportunity. Alas, it was an expensive lesson for me, and I will not be returning to Home Consignment Center. It is dirty and dimly lit.
