We started to notice that our daughter was having anxiety around approaching math and other schoolwork where the steps were ambiguous. She felt there must be a single way to arrive at the answer and would perseverate rather than just digging into the problem. Flux worked with our daughter's teacher to develop an action plan. Over the course of 10 lessons, they worked on fun but complex word problems that allowed our daughter to recognize all the different information she could use to solve the problem. They drew pictures and tested concepts, and after each session our daughter couldn't wait to walk us through the problem and the process she used to solve it. Flux helped her identify anxiety triggers, do deep breathing, and build her confidence, and she kept math fun and exciting the entire time. She has been a really great mentor and is fantastic about tailoring a program to our daughter's needs.

It had the potential to be a love relationship but she needed a little "push" in that direction. Faith helped my daughter embrace her inner-math-loving-self through working with her on homework assignments, showing her games that she could play that made math fun and in the end, really building her confidence in math. The best part was my daughter and I were no longer fighting over how I did math vs the way her teacher did it!! After moving onto middle school, my daughter was awarded a trophy in her math class for most points through assignments, test scores, etc! She was so proud! And now she describes math as one of her favorite subjects. She is even hoping to be a counselor-in-training at Girls Rock Math! We highly recommend Faith! She's awesome!

Their sessions were centered on strategy and learning how to organize and develop good study habits and while content teaching was a part of it, our son's growth into a confident student was the most important benefit. The last session with Jason is next week. Our son will be graduating from Ballard High School next Wednesday (with straight As) and in fall he is starting at UW Engineering - majoring in MechEng and Industrial Design. My husband and I are very grateful to Greg and Jason for all the support in last 4+ years. It was really great to know that even though our sone would not really listen to us, Jason will likely get through him and point him in the right direction. It was wonderful to work with NWES. finding them was one of the luckiest accidents!

He's also quite gifted at explaning grammatical nuances- there are many times where I've found a concept totally clear thanks to Hadrien, and then will stubble across a confusing explanation somewhere else and realize in fact, it's not something simple to explain. As other reviewers have mentioned, you also learn a natural style of speech in his classes that is hard to find elsewhere, but will make it much much easier to follow conversations, media, and jokes.

Unfortunately I had to stop my lessons due to work priorities but when I continue again I will definitely contact Hadrien. Apart from the usual grammar lessons, he taught me phrases that are not in French text books (colloquialisms, slang, cultural references). He is completely bilingual in English and French so he can translate expertly. I was frankly amazed and impressed by his ability to clearly explain the nuances of every word. One of the reasons I selected Hadrien as my teacher was the fact that he is from Paris. His accent is Parisian and I wanted to learn how to pronounce the Parisian way, or at least the way French is pronounced in France. I have had lessons with French speakers from Quebec and parts of Africa and certainly the regional differences in accent are audible. During the time I had tutoring with Hadrien I was also taking a class at the Alliance Française. I found my one-on-one time with Hadrien extremely helpful as I had the opportunity to clarify things I learned in class, or expand upon some grammar rule or another. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced French student, you can definitely benefit from sessions with Hadrien. Bonne chance!
