You have to go in and meet with the center manager and listen to the spiel and not until the end do you get the costs. You have to buy blocks of 50 hours of tutoring at around $90/hour, which means you don't get out of there for under about $4,500.00. Of course, this is paid up front. You can pay for tutoring by the hour, but that is $105.00/hour. Under both scenarios, in that hour they can have up to three students in the tutoring session. Wow! Someone is making a lot of money. Is it the tutors? No. I looked at Glassdoor and the tutors make between $20 to $25 per hour. So, if you do the math, the center is getting up to $315/hour and paying the tutor $25? Caching! Obviously, we didn't sign on, so this is not an entirely fair review. That's why they get a 3. Because they wasted an hour of my time. Maybe their services are really worth that much. I'll never know.

I was trying to pass the West B teacher certification and had taken the math portion already five times and failed when Dimona was recommended to me. I was hesitant because I had been informally tutored with several math teachers that I knew preparing for this test. I went ahead and booked my first session with her. From the first session, I knew this time would be different, as she talked about understanding how I saw thing visually and my struggle was how math had been taught to me in the past. We started fresh and built a foundation. I understood concepts for the first time because of the way she broke them down. If I was struggling with a concept, she tried several ways to explain it better to me. She was patient and compassionate with my comprehension or lack of it when I wanted to quit. She cheered me on and reassured me I could pass this test and understand so much more than I ever thought I could! The next time I took the test, I passed it! She did in three months what no one else was able to do for me in a year of studying. I am grateful for her sharing her gifts with me.

Varsity Tutors hooked me up with a statistics professor who was capably able to walk me through the equations and answer my questions. It was an excellent one-on-one lesson, exactly what I needed. The session was recorded, so I could take screenshots later as lecture notes. The whiteboard was supposed to be saved for download and that didn't work, but with the recording available I was able to use the screenshots instead. A glitch but no biggie. It cost me $199 for the 1.5 hour session. Cancelling the subscription was awful. You can't cancel through the website. The Live Chat rep also cannot cancel, but gave me the phone number (855) 791-0588 to call. The phone rep was awful. She kept asking increasingly invasive and irrelevant questions; my personal hobbies should not be required to cancel a service. After I told her that I'd wanted a single lesson and got that, she gave me a condescending lecture about how I might benefit from more tutoring. Just so unpleasant.
