Home Appliance is the best. My 10 year old refrigerator was having problems, so I set up a service call on Tuesday, after Labor Day holiday. The Friday before, I realized my fridge had stopped cooling/freezing, so called them at 1pm. They said they were really booked but tried to troubleshoot with me over the phone. That didn't fix the problem, so Craig said he would have a couple service guys stop over within the next hour or two to see if they could get it going. They ended up fixing my fridge that afternoon despite their busy schedule. Wow, that is great service you don't see very often. I am, and will continue to be, a loyal customer of Home Appliance. THE place in Cedar Rapids to get your major appliances. Locally owned, brothers Craig & Steve took over a successful business from their parents and made it even more so. Most people would be surprised to learn that this little downtown shop is Whirlpool's top dealer in the state. Their prices are as good or better than any of the chains and you get to deal directly with the owners. Home Appliance sells Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchenaid, Bosch and few other brands. They service and stock parts (in-house) for everything they sell. Here's the cool part: if you're even a little bit handy, when the time comes to have your appliance repaired Craig or Steve will diagnose your problem, tell you exactly how to fix it yourself and sell you all the parts to do it. They are the Click and Clack of the appliance industry right here in river city! I've saved hundreds over the years in repair costs. The last time I had a repair question at Sears, they gave me a 900-number to call for service support at a the rate of $4/minute. Never again, I pledged! That was over 12 years ago. I just got off the phone with a women at Home Appliance Center who hung up on me. I had called to discuss repair of a Maytag refrigerator we purchased from the Amana General Store, which has subsequently gone out of business. They refused to provide service because we hadn't purchased it from them, though we have purchased other appliances from them and where intending to purchase a new washer and dryer from them. I don't want to deal with rudeness as part of doing business. I expect that from box stores, but not from locally owned merchants. read more

Very pleasant experience. They provided information on ways that I might be able to get my old unit running on my own and when that didn't work their advice on new units was very helpful. Their price was much better than the other local dealers that I checked and ordering was painless and was done over the phone. I don't look forward to purchasing appliances, but the next time I have to I'll go to the Home Appliance Center for sure. I highly recommend them. read more

Looking for new appliances for our new kitchen, I browsed at HAC and the service was great! I was very impressed. However, the day I went to order, I worked with the same person and he was short with me. He told me the 25 cubic foot fridge was too big for my space so showed me a 20 cubic foot fridge. I went with the 20 based off my conversation with him. My husband and I did more researching and measuring and found a 22 cubic foot fridge would work. After finding the fridge we wanted on line, we learned that HAC sold it. Why the salesmen didn't show us the 22 when I was ordering, I'll never know but I wish he would have. We wanted stainless rather than black handles on our fridge. We were told that would work and that once the new handles were in, they'd come out an install them. After 2 weeks of our appliances being installed, I called to see when the new handles would be in. I was informed they came in weeks ago and had just been setting on the shelf. Our contractor needed to push back the delivery date of the appliances and change the vent style (from out to in). HAC was very accommodating to our changes. When HAC installed our fridge, they scratched our brand new floors (about 6 inches long). The commercial indicates they install everything they sell. Not true. We had to hire a plumber to install the dishwasher. After our appliances (stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher) were installed, we received 3 different bills, all for different amounts, within a week. To me, that's poor customer service. The price of the appliances were the best we found. Overall, I have a mixed opinion. Sometimes the customer service was great and others it wasn't. I had a combo microwave/oven unit replaced on short notice before leaving town for the winter. They were very busy, but assisted in selecting one that would be available within the week & determined my sizing needs. They promptly got it installed as soon as it arrived. There was a bit of a glitch in the depth fitting and I needed some additional cutting service to the back of the cupboard, which they were also able to arrange by the end of the same day (at no additional charge). The installers scratched my floor unfortunately, but the Home Appliance Center arranged for that quality repair & appropriately picked up the tab. I could not be more satisfied with the product & service I received from them and will definitely use Home Appliance Center for my next appliance replacement instead of the Big Box stores. The cost was within the ballpark of the Big Box stores & I received more services. read more

Their knowledge of repair and availability for purchasing repair parts is great! However, I stopped in and purchased a dryer as I needed a specific Propane version so decided to go direct to the 'experts'. Not impressed yet, and still waiting for an update on my appliance order. I was expecting a call on Friday to confirm the dryer arrived and get delivery scheduled...no call. Saturday...still no call. I called late Monday, and the gal took my name and info to check on the order....never called back. Tuesday late afternoon, called again...was told the gal I needed to talk to was gone for the day. I asked for a call back from someone, they said they would pass the message on to Craig. Still no call and now they are closed for the day. So when they advertise that they 'service' what they sell, that obviously doesn't reflect on the service for new sales. Very bummed...was expecting more from a locally owned business. read more
