When Ben showed me with a flashlight current damage and multiple pictures, I couldn't believe how much deterioration there was. We had a chimney fire in the spring. We burn fire nearly everyday from October to May. We were given a bit of wood to burn in the winter. The fire happened when I started burning the free wood and we chalked it up to the wood. Wrong!!! I learned so much. Ben explained everything! He knows his stuff. He is definitely a professional in his field. Since we did have a fire, he wrote an extensive report for our insurance company. Very professionally written with lots of information and pictures. The work that needs to be done is extensive. Our unique problem is not something they can fix. Besides the inspection fee, they did not and can not gain any additional profit with this inspection. We are so glad we called Midtown Chimney Sweeps.

Earl came to my home, respectfully went to work and cleaned 6ft of soot and debris from the chimney, provided videos (pics too), a receipt via text and advised on next steps with my water heater and chimney maintenance. To top it off, I was charged $150 less than the original quote. That's honesty, that's professionalism (pretty rare qualities these days) and I am eternally grateful. He came out last fall, knew what he was talking about, gave me a rough estimate, then told me he needed to write it up to make it official. After not hearing back, I emailed Jolene a couple of times. She finally emailed this to me: "David said he cannot send you a bid as he cannot honestly give you a honest bid. He says call him in spring so that he can get up on roof so that he can give you a accurate bid." I copy and pasted this from the email. I called her and told her this is NOT what he just told me the other day! The verbal estimate he gave me included EVERYTHING that could possibly be done! I guess because I live in the historic district, and I told him I wanted him to do it on the spot, he figured he could squeeze more money out of me. Either way, they lied. I ended up using Midtown Sweeps out of Waterloo. The guy is honest, does great work, and the cost was half what David quoted me.

We ended up going with All American bc the receptionist was so on top of things, worked so quickly to get her spouse out her to prevent further leaks (we had a tarp tied up on the chimney and caulk sealing the flashing), and the other bids came in much higher and All American gave us,a few options and even told us,a way we could easily save money for a few years, which we,would never have known about-,being a woman dealing with this I felt like I easily could have been taken advantage of and it was completely the opposite. They were never late, extremity respectful, cleaned up all the mess and even offered to help me clean up the rope, tarp and,all of my mess we had rigged up there to keep water out. They were also the only company out of 5 that I called that offered a warranty AT ALL!!!!! They made sure I completely understood all of the work they were doing before and after they did it and we have happily had not one leak since! I can't say enough good things about Mike and his service. We had a chimney fire on a Saturday…read moremorning in a stove pipe from a wood stove: our source of heat on a 20 degree day. The firefighters removed the stove pipe from the wood stove to the ceiling 18 feet above and from the roof up to the chimney cap: they wanted to be sure that there was no fire anywhere. After the "all clear", we made four calls to find someone to put us back together: we needed heat. Two did not provide a return call. One could put us on a list. Mike called back within 30 minutes and was at our place within 90 minutes. Not really knowing the conditions of our place, he offered and brought special cleaning supplies for the fine dust of the ash and fire extinguisher. He assessed the situation and got to work. Not only was he professional and efficient, he was empathetic, personal and funny. We cleaned. He reassembled; was very thorough about being sure things went back together to ensure safety; taught us things about fire building and maintenance; and ensured that we had heat from the wood stove by 5pm. Mike will now be part of our annual wood stove maintenance program. We are very grateful to the fire fighters and Mike who took very good care of us in this emergency. Thanks Mike!

No you can't get beer here but any home brewer knows the importance and need for a CO2 hook-up. This place provides just that! The service is friendly and they fill tanks versus exchanging them. It's nice to know you aren't getting some old CO2 tanks that may have floating around for years. They are also all about safety verifying the year of your tank before filling it to make sure it's up to specifications. Their pricing is also in line with what we paid in Virginia (just under $15 for 5 lbs) and it's nice to not have to exchange our tanks so I feel like that makes the value that much better. So if your a home brewer with a need for CO2 this is the place to go!
