So DoorDash sent an e-mail offering $5 off an order of $20 or more for trying one of four new places. I was in need of a culinary revitalization after some recent travails so bbq wings and chili cheese fries sounded like just the ticket. On retrospect, I should have gone with one of the other options.
As a Yelper noted about the San Francisco location, this is a virtual restaurant -- strictly delivery and take out plus catering. All orders done online.
They included some plastic finger guards to protect them from the sticky chicken. Rolling them onto the fingers was a chore but it was an appreciated gesture. But sadly the last and only positive of the order.
The first warning sign was when I tried to lift the box containing the wings out of delivery paper bag and the bottom of the box fell open. Splat! There went the wings onto the bottom of the bag, thankfully along with the paper liner.
The fries came in a styrofoam to go container so I opened it and gingerly lifted the paper to deposit the sticky wings on the bottom of the open lid. A quick look revealed the box bottom was just overlapping flaps. No wonder it came apart simply from the weight of the wings. Sad.
The wings and drumettes were meaty and smothered in sauce. Sadly the taste was unremarkable, barely tomatoey. No tang. The sort of faint imitation of bbq that Mickey Dees slathers on the McRib, glorified ketchup. Yikes!
I wish I could say the fries saved the day. Instead they continued the mediocrity theme. They looked great. Melted cheese and a generous portion of chili atop shoestring fries. But the taste... or to be blunt, the lack of taste. The chili was beef and some black beans in a dark sauce but without any noticeable spice. It wasn't horrible but it fell far short of what is usually meant by chili.
Los Angeles has a vibrant foodie culture. These folks need to up their game if they hope to be competitive. Maybe their other wings are more lively but the bbq and chili cheese fries are a disappointment. read more
