Our new vet instantly found the cause: liver lobe torsion. One month later now and Temple End refused to answer questions about care including kennel size (we suspect it was the size of a pet carrier), why the normal treatment for gut stasis was not administered, why they did not perform the ultrasound they suggested due to suspected torsion, why he was left alone overnight when care was promised, etc. Earlier this year our other bunny, Dori, died while under anaesthetic. At the time we were devastated but understood this sometimes happens with rabbits, and was a risk we had to take. We now are left wondering if Temple End did something they shouldn't have. We are escalating our complaint about Stan and hope they get shut down. THEY DO NOT HAVE AN EXOTICS WARD. What they claim to have is insufficient to qualify. NB: The vet who treated Stan seemed deeply concerned about him and did her best. But it is clear she does not have the training to handle rabbits, and so Temple End should not be advertising that they can do so. We do not blame the individual vet. We blame the practice for claiming to have an exotics ward when they clearly don't, and garnering unwarranted trust in their ability to handle rabbits.

There first priority is always the welfare of the animals, which is most reassuring. Only small downside is the parking, which at busy times can be problem, but otherwise would highly recommend to everyone.

We came upon this independantly owned vet surgery after having bad experiences with 2 other vets,…read moreand I'm so glad we did. We bought our first ever pet, a german shepherd puppy, and were panicked when we noticed a cyst between 2 of his fingers. We took him to a local vet and they spent 2 minutes looking at his paw and without even explaining or asking us, booked him for surgery the next day and injected him with painkillers and anti-biotics. Having felt that we were being taken for a ride we made an appointment with the pets practice for a second opinion. The nurses were helpful and polite, and a convenient appointment time was very easy to arrange as they open later than most vets. Our vet, Kylie, was really wonderful about everything. We told her our concerns, and she examined him, and told us professionally, but also kindly, what we did and didn't need to worry about. We also got to discuss some of our other concerns as first time pet owners, and she was very helpful. For example, she in the course of the appointment had noticed he had dry skin and that he was a slightly under weight and we may want to consider a different diet. We didn't feel pressured or guilted into doing anything, and she didn't just add things to the bill like the other vet, but I was happy that she took the initiative to notice and let us know. I think what annoyed me about the others is that they didn't respect their ethical and professional boundaries, and it was so in tune with the stories you hear about vet's being scam artists (there was an episode of panorama about it). At the end of everything she decided to prescribe a course of antibiotics, which seemed more sensible than cutting into him at the first oppurtunity like the other vet. Her manner with us and our puppy inspired our confidence in her. We did change the diet which not only adressed the skin and weight issue, but his distaste towards his food which we had noticed. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's convenient as it opens late, has parking, and is easy to get to. It's always clean and a nice environment. We decided to our dog to the puppy class was good, and it was nice to hear about advice and training directly from a vet, and it turns out that this is the only place with a vet-led training class in this area. Since then our poor puppy has a few medical issues, in each case the advice was always good, and we felt safe trusting them as we felt that they really did have our pet's best interest at heart.

I have seen two different vets now on separate occasions and must say I am impressed. When I moved here from Herefordshire I did some research of the local vets and chose the nearest to home. After a few visits to the vets with both of my dogs and not really happy with the level of service, then by chance passing Barton Lodge in the car, I decided to give it a try the next time one of my dogs was ill, and Im so pleased I did. They will definitely have me as a returning pet owner whilst living in this area which will probably be for a long time yet.

Staff at the practice are always friendly and polite and very caring for the animals they treat. The vets gave great advice about our pet's diet and general care. Their annual reminders about booster vaccinations were extremely helpful this is such an easy thing to overlook when you are busy working. We also were very pleased that they gave our cat an annual health check and I'm sure this is what kept her fit and well and a super pet for 16 years. When she eventually became terminally ill with cancer at the age of 17 one of the vets, the owner, sensitively gave us the prognosis and we were able to decide when the time had come to say goodbye to our pet. This was handled with great sensitivity for which we were very grateful. We will definitely continue to use Barton Lodge their service and expertise is second to none and we have great confidence in them.
