    Paper stuck on the cone

Went in for food but to be honest the smell in the restaurant made me sick to my stomach but my daughter wanted to get a ice cream cone so I went ahead and got her one and ended up throwing it out the window on the way home.. she tried eating it but it was freezer burnt and when she went to try and eat some of the cone the paper that comes on it stuck on the cone so she couldn't eat it either.. just disappointed will attach pictures of the cone

Great little diner! Very clean and inviting. I had the broasted chicken my husband had the meatloaf. We finished off with a banana spilt. Definitely will return.

If you want to step back in time or pretend you are Marty McFly, go to Holt's dinner. There is a jutebox you are able to pick tunes for free, hand-dipped ice cream cones and of course SunDrop because you are in Tennessee. Pros: -large size portions -comfort food, cooked well -tastes fresh -real chicken...no nuggets here -creamy, thick mac and cheese -daily specials never change (Saturday was a BBQ plate) -melt in your mouth dinner rolls Cons: -cole slaw was lacking in flavor and extremely disappointing -baked beans are not what I traditionally think of baked beans (I consider bakes beans like Busch's). baked beans had ground meat and chunks of tomatoes

Eat there on occasion. They have great chicken tenders, and the baked potato salad is really good. Good comfort food.

It's a little rough around the edges / shabby-chic inside but there's plenty of seating and it definitely feels like a local place. Pleasant interactions between waitstaff and regulars, large groups of workers coming in, etc. I like that vibe. They let me seat myself and a waitress brought me a menu. I asked if I should get the plate lunch or the burger and she very emphatically recommended the burger. Not sure if that was a condemnation of the plate lunch or just a huge fan of the burger lol, but I followed her guidance and got a bacon burger and fries. I used the restroom while I waited for my food; it was a small one person lady's room but it was clean. My food came out in a timely manner and was fresh and hot. My waitress did not steer me wrong; it was a tasty, diner-style burger, well-seasoned and cooked nicely. The bacon was extra crispy, which is my preference. The fries were nothing-special crinkle cut fries, but they were hot and crispy enough. The burger was definitely the star though and worthy of another order. The price was reasonable and I was in and out quickly. A worthwhile stop in Winchester.

Mildred's Restaurant - Fried Chicken-- moist!

I just love it! Ambiance is as close to mom's kitchen as it gets! We drove 30 minutes from Huntsville to have lunch. And the price--in a metropolitan area, you'd pay 3x the price of a plate. Delicious!!

This…read moreplace was hopping on a Saturday afternoon, we got here right at 1130ish and were able to easily find a seat. Plenty of parking available despite being busy. There are two buffet islands, one with main course and sides and some desert, the other with a salad bar and more desert options. There is also an ice cream machine that my wife swears tastes just like Chik-fil-a's. The food is almost all southern, and some of it got rotated out while we ate (the chicken and dumplings gave way to country fried steak and gravy). Fried Chicken, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, fried okra, corn, green beans, man n cheese -- the list goes on and on. By and large, the food was exceptional. The fried chicken was moist and the breading is flavorful, the mashed potatoes were good. Pulled pork was succulent and the BBQ sauce was great. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. Only downsides from my visit was that the corn bread was a tad dry and not sweat (that's a preference thing) and there was no gravy for the mashed potatoes. That being said the yeast rolls are great. The chicken fried steak got rotated in with some pepper gravy (a bit watery) but these were the only nitpicks I found with my visit. Overall the best southern food and best buffet near Huntsville. My waitress ('Granny') was hustling, she made sure the plates were cleared and the drinks stayed full. Everyone seemed to know her and she was able to be friendly with the locals while taking care of business. All of the employees I saw were busy, wiping down the buffet lines, bringing in heaps of food and just making it a great experience. The value was phenomenal -- $12.50 for adults and $7 for kids. I wish they served Coke products and lived next door then they'd be perfect. If you're reading about this place and you live in Hunstville, its worth the drive. If you're a local, its probably a staple and you already know. 5 stars, would recommend. Thanks!
