He has two Sig 9 mil handguns, and I get the opportunity to learn how to use them and shoot on an indoor range. Lafayette is off the beaten path, which is a no brainer given the noise generated by the weapons on the outdoor ranges. It gets loud. Inside, the range is well set up, and everyone associated with the club management is first class friendly and knowledgeable. They are also incredibly patient with a novice who keeps shooting up their clothespins and PVC target frames. Too bad I wasn't aiming at them. My exposure to these guns and people has really opened my eyes to the engineering and design that goes into making a shooting iron these days, and more importantly the culture surrounding it. I am very impressed with the combination of warmth and seriousness that the people I meet display. Men, women and kids at all skill levels interact in a friendly, respectful manner. The teaching of gun safety is ever present, and the willingness to accept guidance a clear indication that everyone understands that while shooting is a fun sport, it also requires high skill levels and an appreciation of the potential for destruction. Having checked it out a few times, I now bring my young teenage son with us to join in both the bonding and the shooting. He is a Star Boy Scout and already has taken safety courses and earned the merit badges associated with rifles and shooting. I was amazed that he knew what to do and can shoot with a steady hand. I just bought him a set of "Ears," and we have discussed our mutual interest in taking this further. Lafayette Gun Club is an excellent place to go (if you can get in) to learn and practice this sport, and see what goes into gunsport today. Why only 4 Stars? A snack bar and more comfortable waiting areas in and outside would do the trick.

Outdoor features a 50m safety range, 100m safety range, Trap range, Five-stand range and an Archery target area. Indoors they have "50 foot indoor range has 10 firing positions, motor-driven target carriers, complete projectile and residue containment, variable lighting, radiant strip heating and state-of-the-art Detroit Armor backstop. Firing positions are separated by lane dividers at the firing line and sound absorbing materials are liberally used to minimize noise to the shooters, the clubhouse proper, and surrounding areas. This excellent facility is open for members' use 24 hours per day, 7 days per week." I have been there quite a few times now and it normally isn't very crowded. Freedom Outdoors is a welcome replacement for the old Colonial Shooting Academy in a great many…read moreways, and frankly we are lucky to get a new range option in a region without many of them. To avoid going through this review like I have a chip on my shoulder, I'll say it straight: I did not like Colonial at all, and Freedom Outdoors does everything so much better. Excellent staff who aren't rude or combative for no reason, reasonable range rules, and clean shooting bays without weird columns in the middle make this place an ideal destination. The biggest change is the staff, particularly the RSOs: they are cool and focused on making sure everything is safe but also without micromanaging every shooter. The one I interacted with during my range time was friendly and answered my questions without issue. The counter staff were quite busy but still processed me quickly. The shooting bays are quite nice, with a nice polished wood area to lay your guns while not in use and to do reloading, though they also have a few chairs behind the bays for that too. They use the standard electronic "fly in, fly out" target system where you can bring it in to attach paper targets and then send it to a distance of your choice. I was surprised the place wasn't busier for a Saturday, though that made my life easier since I wanted a somewhat calmer spot to test my new gun. I did not rent any of their guns this time though they appeared to have a good number of them. I didn't spend much time in their store, though they have a decent selection of firearms and accessories, with an ammo section in a separate room that I did shop from. One thing I noticed is that most of their firearm offerings are more common ones, as compared to the huge revolver collection that was here with Colonial. My one gripe is the cost of a lane: $30 for an hour for one person (or even their $50 for 2 people) is a lot of money. Their only competitor in the area is Green Top, which is $25 for an hour for one person and $40 for two. Essentially there are a few things worth paying the extra money for if you choose to come here: proximity to where you live (Green Top is a bit of a drive north), a calmer shooting experience (assuming it stays the way it is now), the chance of getting to shoot for a little longer than an hour if they aren't busy, and the fact that they are cool with you shooting full-auto/binary. For example, if I wanted to teach someone how to shoot, rent a full-auto or shoot my binary, or planned to shoot a LOT of ammo, I would choose Freedom. If I just wanted to get some basic shooting in with a friend who already knew how to shoot, I might go with Green Top purely because it's cheaper. Ultimately, it's up to you whether it's worth the drive to save $10. Super glad to have Freedom Outdoors in our backyard and will definitely return again soon! ---- Overall: 4.5 stars Pros: - Excellent range staff, top-notch RSOs. - Range rules are fair and non-restrictive. - Nicely-redone bays make for a pleasant (dare I say upscale?) experience. - Good selection of rentals, equipment, etc. - Same excellent parking lot as their predecessors. Cons: - $50 is a lot for an hour's entertainment, but in the circumstances I've outlined above, it's well worth it.

Curtis showed true professionalism and is very knowledgeable about gun handling safety. During my time at the range, while I was shooting, my red dot flew off! I let Curtis know, and he was able to retrieve it properly and safely. He told me that new red dots should always be installed with new screw glue, which I was not aware of, and he helped me install my red dot back on my gun the right way. I will be shooting and purchasing my firearms here from now on. They offer annual range memberships with military discounts. I did not know they have an archery range here!! Otherwise, I might have invested in a compound bow years ago! Check-in was easy. I had to fill out a waiver since it was my first time shooting here at this range. You just go to the kiosks to the far left of the check-in counter. Be sure to have your Driver's license/ID with you because you will need it to type in the number when you check into the kiosk for the waiver. Plus you will need to turn it in at the check-in desk while you're in the range. You must have safety glasses and ear protection before entering the range. If you don't own any you can purchase safety glasses for $4. My brother loaned me his ear protection and he brought his own guns and ammo. You can purchase from a variety of targets that are against the wall to the right of the counters. Just state which number to the staff. They will give you a stapler to attach to the board in the range. Holy cow! Gunfire can get EXTREMELY LOUD and jolting in there depending upon who is firing what in there. Some dude was firing a weapon that felt like it shook the range and jolted my body. My brother told me what it was they were firing but I forgot. Me and this teenager laughed and looked at each other because MY GAWD, the sound and pressure of that weapon felt like a sonic boom. LOL. They have staff inside the range to change out the back boards if needed and to sweep up the shells to prevent tripping as well. Restrooms are available as well with many multiple stalls and were very clean.

The check in process was very easy to navigate and the team members were very helpful. Jake helped me get set up at the desk & he assured me that the safety person in the range would be helpful too. It's clear that safety is a top priority here. They require you to wear hearing & eye protection before you enter the range room! I entered the range room & was initially shaken & tearful so I stepped out, wiped my tears & then entered again. John helped me slowly ease up to the bay & walked me through all the safety basics of the gun. He helped me grip it correctly and get a feel of it before the mag was even loaded. He imitated what the kick would feel like. Once I was comfortable with just holding it, he showed me how to load the bullets. I was shaken & nervous between each step but he was calm, reassuring, & patient with me. I eventually loaded the mag & did one shot. From there, my confidence built. Overall, I would recommend this gun range to any & everyone. As a woman who came here alone to face my fears, I feel accomplished & empowered. This review is for the swimming pool only…read more This was my first time at the WISC and I was darn impressed with the amount of activities offered. I had no idea this was tucked back in this area by Lafayette H.S. The setting is pretty and back in the woods. Parking is plentiful, you just may have to walk. Specifically for the pool is very limited in the rear. For officials and coaches they have a designated lot not far. Spectator parking is in front of the main building unless you get lucky. The pool is in the rear of the main building. I believe it's only a few years old, possibly built in 2017. It does not look like much from the front, but don't let that fool you. Locker rooms are up front. The lobby area is very small for congregating before and after meets. The pool itself is a 10 lane short course. In order to conduct warm-up/cools down during a meet a lane, or two is closed running the heats at either 8, or 9 lanes. There is a small baby pool up front. The deck is decent size and has bleacher area for athletes and limited spectator bleachers. Fold up chairs are permitted. Around six garage doors are around each side of the structure to improve air quality of the temperatures are conducive. The two day meet hosted by 757 Swim was in January. Garage doors overall were closed with a few at the start area up a quarter to improve air quality. Needless to say with cooler temps it was chilly for the athletes when waiting for their events. The meet hosting was fantastic by 757 and timelines were mostly hit by the officials crew. Upon first entering the pool area I was struck with a heavy chlorine smell and my eyes began to burn. Well duh... pools are chlorinated but this was heavy. I'm around pools everyday, so I know the challenges of pool air quality. Both days were consistently the same on poor air. My athlete had a cough and sore throat a day after the meet. This to me is dangerous over a long period of time. Two days is not a long period. Splashes also add to the churning up of chlorine thrown up in the air. It was a large meet with lots of splashes and my older swimmer was second session. Possible HVAC issue on my visit? I can't really say other than friends said it's been better. If your interested in all that's available at WISC check their website, or read other reviews here on yelp. If swimming is your thing then consider a membership to the pool. It is an amazing complex with incredible offerings. If for not the issues with air I'm at a 4, but with air quality challenged a 3 fits them best.
