Nicely organized and clean facility. I went to shoot with my brother. He has a membership here which helps get priority booking for range time. It gets quite busy! I did not know they have an archery range here!! Otherwise, I might have invested in a compound bow years ago! Check-in was easy. I had to fill out a waiver since it was my first time shooting here at this range. You just go to the kiosks to the far left of the check-in counter. Be sure to have your Driver's license/ID with you because you will need it to type in the number when you check into the kiosk for the waiver. Plus you will need to turn it in at the check-in desk while you're in the range. You must have safety glasses and ear protection before entering the range. If you don't own any you can purchase safety glasses for $4. My brother loaned me his ear protection and he brought his own guns and ammo. You can purchase from a variety of targets that are against the wall to the right of the counters. Just state which number to the staff. They will give you a stapler to attach to the board in the range. Holy cow! Gunfire can get EXTREMELY LOUD and jolting in there depending upon who is firing what in there. Some dude was firing a weapon that felt like it shook the range and jolted my body. My brother told me what it was they were firing but I forgot. Me and this teenager laughed and looked at each other because MY GAWD, the sound and pressure of that weapon felt like a sonic boom. LOL. They have staff inside the range to change out the back boards if needed and to sweep up the shells to prevent tripping as well. Restrooms are available as well with many multiple stalls and were very clean. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough! I came in with a history of gun violence & this visit was to overcome my fear of guns. The check in process was very easy to navigate and the team members were very helpful. Jake helped me get set up at the desk & he assured me that the safety person in the range would be helpful too. It's clear that safety is a top priority here. They require you to wear hearing & eye protection before you enter the range room! I entered the range room & was initially shaken & tearful so I stepped out, wiped my tears & then entered again. John helped me slowly ease up to the bay & walked me through all the safety basics of the gun. He helped me grip it correctly and get a feel of it before the mag was even loaded. He imitated what the kick would feel like. Once I was comfortable with just holding it, he showed me how to load the bullets. I was shaken & nervous between each step but he was calm, reassuring, & patient with me. I eventually loaded the mag & did one shot. From there, my confidence built. Overall, I would recommend this gun range to any & everyone. As a woman who came here alone to face my fears, I feel accomplished & empowered. Huge shoutout to John for his patience, kindness & cute smile. To anyone out there debating:DO IT, even if you do it scared & with tears in your eyes! read more

As someone who's never held a weapon before, I had the coolest opportunity of going to the shooting range over the weekend and what an experience it was! We arrived around 3pm on Saturday and there was a 45 minute wait to get into the range. That gave me plenty of time to sign the waiver and look at all the weaponry throughout the store. As soon as the range was available, we had to put on noise cancelling headphones and protective eyewear before entering. With it being my first time at a shooting range, the sounds of the guns were a bit overwhelming at first but I eventually got used to it and was able to concentrate enough to practice a few rounds. This was something I've been wanting to do for quite some time and I'm so glad I was able to experience it and cross it off my bucket list. For around $25pp, definitely check them out if the shooting range is something you enjoy or if you're a first timer like myself who wants to do something fun and exhilarating! read more

I Would Buy My Suppressor Somewhere Else I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you are considering purchasing a suppressor. I purchased a suppressor from Freedom Outdoors on 8/15/2026 because the website showed it as in stock. I also paid for shipping. I expected the Form 4 process to begin promptly, especially since my Silencer Shop account was already linked to my NFA eForms account. Instead, the communication and customer service were extremely disappointing. After hearing absolutely nothing for several days, I called Freedom Outdoors on 8/18/2026. The employee who answered the phone told me that I hadn't heard anything because they don't do Form 4s anymore and that I could simply come to the store and pick up my suppressor. That information was completely wrong. I went to the store, where an employee verified that my suppressor was there and ready to be processed. When I explained the situation, another employee told me that the person I spoke with on the phone was incorrect and shouldn't have told me that. At that point, I was left wondering what I was actually supposed to do. I already had my Silencer Shop account set up and linked to my NFA eForms account. I was simply waiting for Freedom Outdoors to provide whatever instructions were necessary to get the transfer started. Finally, on 8/21/2026, I received the email to sign and submit my Form 4. I completed it immediately. And then I waited again. I didn't receive confirmation that Freedom Outdoors had actually submitted my Form 4 until 8/27/2026. That's 12 days from the date I paid for the suppressor to the date the Form 4 was finally submitted. To be clear: I am not complaining about the ATF approval time. I understand that once the Form 4 is submitted, the approval process is outside Freedom Outdoors' control. My complaint is that it took Freedom Outdoors nearly two weeks to get the paperwork submitted in the first place, despite the suppressor already being physically in their possession and me being ready to complete the required paperwork. What makes this particularly frustrating is the disconnect between the sales experience and the experience after you've already paid. Before purchasing, you're given the impression that the process is relatively quick -- I was told "one or two weeks total before you can take it home." After you make the purchase, however, the experience feels like you're simply placed in a queue and expected to wait until they get around to you. If Freedom Outdoors is overwhelmed with NFA business, that's understandable. But being busy doesn't excuse poor communication or giving customers conflicting and inaccurate information just to make a sale. A suppressor purchase can involve an inherently long federal approval process. The last thing a customer needs is for the dealer to add unnecessary delays before the paperwork even reaches the ATF. Hire the right people for the job. The prices are already higher than anyone around the area. Profits over customer satisfaction never works in the long term... isn't that right Colonial Shooting Academy... I mean Freedom Outdoors. I've had a much better impression of DOA Arms based on their NFA process. They have a Silencer Shop kiosk in the store and are known for getting the dealer-side paperwork processed promptly, including same-day processing. As well as helping you through the process every step if needed. Looking back, I wish I had purchased from DOA Arms instead. Or even Bob's in Norfolk. If you're in Virginia Beach or the surrounding area and you're considering buying a suppressor, do yourself a favor and ask how quickly the dealer actually submits Form 4s after you purchase. Once that form 4 is submitted the clock starts. It shouldn't be delayed due to inadequate staffing and management. Based on my experience, I would not purchase another suppressor from Freedom Outdoors. There are other dealers who appear to value their customers time and understand that good customer service doesn't end when they take your money. read more

Great selection of guns!! Bought two! Prices are pretty good! Really cool shooting ranges that are very popular and heavily booked! Not as easy to book as I had hoped, but still cool! Rangemasters are very cool and knowledgeable! read more

Unless you're a member, Staff will NOT bother with you. My son and his friend stood there for 40 minutes yesterday afternoon around 3:30pm and they were first in the line; however, every time a member came up, they were seen right away and my son and his friend ignored. It was extremely discouraging to two young men who are potential members. I used to be a member years ago but will not recommend this poor customer service at all to anyone who wants to just come in for a short session without a membership. read more

Nice enough atmosphere and good selection of firearms; however, the staff was quite dismissive of nonmembers and didn't let our party know that we would essentially be skipped over in the virtual queue for a lane should a member arrive before our range time opened up. Additionally, when questioned about this (arguably purposeful) lapse in communication, the person behind the counter took a rude tone and gave a halfway explanation of how the membership works before suggesting we buy one to cut the line... yikes. A lot of potential but with irate staff and unexplained order of operations it leaves a LOT of room for growth. read more

Service is TERRIBLE. Everytime I step in there no one speaks to me. After waiting 30 mins to get a trade in value they lowball the hell out of you. I went to multiple stores and got trade values around 600 and theirs was 250. Just a slap in the face, and also, all their firearms are overpriced as hell. Look online and find them hundreds of dollars cheaper. Stay away, thats my last time going EVER. Superior pawn is 10x better andits 3 mins up the road. read more

Really nice range and staff. I didn't look around the store too much but it seems well organized and well stocked. There wasn't a wait time or anything to get a lane (3:00pm on a Monday) but not being a member did mean waiting like 10-15 min to be see while I waited for members to get checked into the range first which was expected so no big deal. The staff were great too. My dumbass went to not only the wrong lane, but also the wrong range and they were chill about it. They just had me and the guy who had reserved the lane I went to swap lanes. It costs a more than most ranges near me (for a non member), but the range is really nice, so worth the cost difference in my opinion read more

Shout out to THOMAS for being absolutely helpful. This place has employees that are very knowledgeable of all things guns and outdoors. SO MUCH variety of guns and bow and arrows. A lot of hunting supplies too. And if you're not comfortable with guns or bows, they still have a selection of things you can use for defense, pepper spray, knives, etc. Good quality merch, kinda pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. Shooting range is expensive but can be worth it depending on how you spend it. But other than that, highly recommend this place! read more

Freedom Outdoors - Gun/Rifle Ranges Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

Came here for the USO Virginia Beach experience for military, veterans, and their dependents! I underwent two classes, in which I was able to shoot a Glock 17/19 and some rifles and weapon used by croatian. The safety brief was about 10-15 minutes, and the amount of people per class was between 3-6. We had our own station area, was taught how to load the gun with and without a gun loader, and was shown how to hold each weaponry. The Glock 17/19 were harder to aim but easier to hold. 19 was smaller than the 17. They were named after their patent rather than the size. Highly recommend the lessons! read more

I am giving this place one star, DESPITE the fact that it is a clean, modern, and desirable shooting facility, and a fairly well stocked gun store. The reason for the low rating is the consistently awful customer service. The guys who work there are more interested in talking to each other than dealing with customers. You wait in line forever and no one helps you; there are employees everywhere hanging around aimlessly, as if customers don't exist. If you do eventually catch someone's attention, he will generally treat you as if HE'S an official in some middle-eastern government, and YOU are a visa supplicant. Then there's the fact that they think their STAPLE GUNS are made of solid platinum and encrusted with diamonds. They label them individually and hold your driver license hostage until you return them. Hey! Morons! Just chain the staple guns to the range booths and leave them there! That's what they do at the NRA range, and it works just fine. The NRA range also chains a magloader to each booth. Take a few pages from their book, maybe. For me, the final straw was when there was a minor incident on one of the lanes, and they evacuated everybody unecessarily and made us wait in the parking lot outside for an hour until the incident was "cleared." Complete overkill--nothing happened; just dim-witted functionaries exercising power. They didn't let me take my bag out with me, so I could just leave. I had to wait an hour for nothing, just to go back in and get my bag. Meanwhile, others WERE allowed to take their stuff--an inconsistent application of their worthless rules. I quit my membership right then and there and never visited the place again. Now I shoot in much dingier and darker places like Superior Pawn, where the staff are decent and treat customers like human beings. read more

Perry in the archery department was great. Reasonable prices for the hour and I highly recommend going in a group if you've never done it before. Rotating the bow between friends is a great option. The service from perry and mini lesson before the initial shooting was awesome. He was informative and deserves a raise. On point with the group he kept up with us well. read more

Do not choose this dealer for NFA transfers. It will take longer and you will be treated with distain by a condescending staff.

My first visit to Freedom Gun Range was completely overshadowed by an unprofessional and humiliating experience. As I was preparing to shoot, a female staff member walked over -- not to me, but to the group I was with -- and loudly asked them if I was pregnant. In a public room. Full of strangers. Without ever addressing me directly. Let me be absolutely clear: this was completely unacceptable. Even if there's a policy about pregnancy and shooting -- which I fully understand -- there is a right way to address it. Speaking about me rather than to me, and doing so in front of others, was inappropriate, disrespectful, and invasive. You don't know who those people are to me, and frankly, it's none of their business. What makes this even more disappointing is that it was another woman who chose to handle the situation this way -- someone who should absolutely know better than to speak about such a personal matter publicly and indirectly. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior, especially from a professional. If safety is truly the concern, then show respect to your customers by speaking to them privately and directly. read more

Don't expect to get a fair price selling your gun to Freedom Outdoors, they would only give me $100.00 for a perfect condition S&W 5 shot revolver. They list similar weapons on their website for $529.95. They are in business to make maximum profit. They will not negotiate; the guy told me: "if I don't like his price offer, I can take it somewhere else or sell to someone in the parking lot." My recommendation if you have a gun to sell go somewhere else, don't waste your time there. read more

I have to agree with some of the other reviews from folks... In summary, the facility is great. I like the ability to shoot your shotgun and the range itself. It's clean and just easy to work with. However, the customer service... is practically non-existent. Do I need fairies and glitter dust when I arrive? Do I need you to treat me like your best friend? No... but honestly don't be a jerk. That's about the bar I'd expect before I mention anything. It's almost like there's a requirement for everyone to have no personality and have a "I'm better than you" mentality. Overall, I 'think' we'll be back, mainly because of the shotgun slug option. But other than that, it's an slightly-higher-priced range that is clean. Freedom Shooting Center is definitely the best place in Hampton Roads to buy guns, as well as, the only range that's still open during Covid. They have, hands down, the widest selection of firearms in the area, from most of the major brands, whatever you want, from pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, etc. They also sell boxes of ammo, firearm accessories, parts, and maintenance kits. Prices are appropriate for the area. Their range is state-of-the-art, with 34 lanes, temperature control, and experienced Range Safety Officers who are in charge of all range activities. They are also there to provide any support and advice to first time shooters or people who don't have a lot of experience dealing with firearms. I bought my first firearm at Freedom, a Walther PPQ M2. I first shot the PPQ at a range in Pennsylvania, which was before I joined the Navy. I really liked the feel and overall balance of the gun, and I've been looking for it in other gun shops in the area, but to no avail. Finally, I saw that Freedom had it in stock, and I wasted no time in buying it. The whole buying process was pretty smooth and pain free for me. However, I would like to point out some problems at Freedom, that needs to be addressed by their management. Their customer service isn't consistent. Their staff tend to either take their sweet time in answering phone calls OR they just choose not to respond at all. That's just unsat. Also, I've noticed from experience, even during hours when Freedom isn't busy, a customer can pace around the store for a long time before they are even approached by a staff member. That being said, Freedom is still the best range in the area and I would always recommend my friends and fellow shipmates who like to shoot guns, to go and get a membership at Freedom, or at least try it out first. When the zombie apocalypse happens and sh-t hits the fan, I know where I'm going...LOL read more

Awesome place and people, and the membership deals is so worth it if you shoot more than twice a month. Totally recommend

I guess you have to know someone there to actually get help. The first time I purchased a suppressor there (It was in my hand and I paid for it) 2 month later I'm still waiting to certify the form to send to the ATF! So I asked silencer shop. They said that they never put it in the system that they received the can. So I cancel the whole order. 2 months I'm still getting "ready to certify" emails for the can I canceled. Then, I have a Pcc mailed there. 4 days after delivery I decided to ask about it. The guy said they would call when it's ready. 4 more days I call back and they said they called and it went to voicemail.(I never got a voicemail) and the guy had an attitude like being a customer is an inconvenience. Now, I ordered 2 suppressors online. One has been there for a week and not one person tried to contact me. I bet if I go the first thing they'll ask is "did you get a call?" It's sitting there ready to certify the form like the last one. I'm not rude and I'm very patient. All I ask as a customer is that you do your job and be professional and so far with the exception on the one woman with the piercings. All I've gotten is excuses and pushed to the side. Once I get my items I'll never do business there again I will not recommend them if to anyone I care about. read more

Went here to buy my first handgun, great experience. The salesperson was helpful and gave great recommendations. Came back to try it out at the range since they gave me a coupon, horrible. The guy at the checkout looked genuinely bothered by my existence. I asked him a question, and he stared at me dead eyed until I rephrased to how he liked and then told me I had to sign a waiver and watch a safety video. I asked him where I go to sign the waiver and got a snarky response back. After doing all that, we stood in line for probably 30 minutes being ignored as members rolled up and were greeted with a smile. In between the members, they would sit in the back room or randomly touch stuff to look busy. Once they finally acknowledged our existence, I was met with attitude and sarcasm again. The range themselves weren't terrible just cramped. Overall, a frustrating and degrading experience. Buy a membership or be treated like scum is a horrible business model. read more

I decided that today was the day I would exercise my Second Amendment rights and brought my pistol and some ammunition. This is a large and very modern facility, lots of firearms for sale as well as tons of accessories, ammunition and I think they might even do some repairs. But I was here for the range. I had my own ears, eyes and targets so it was a simple $20 for an hour of range time. But before that, I had to spend 8 minutes watching the range safety video and sign a form. Easy enough and the video was quite professionally done and not nearly as boring as I expected. In the pistol range, it was clean and there was a hi-viz vested range officer watching and tidying. He did a great job of monitoring and I felt comfortable knowing that he was there. The range controls worked great. All push buttons so that you can just dial in distances and home, the carrier takes your target out and brings it back. The air was very well circulated but it was quite loud with noise reflecting off all the concrete. But that's what hearing protection is for! I particularly liked that the barriers between the range bays were quite solid and looked that they would stop an accidental round if someone did something stupid. Definitely a great range and I enjoyed my time here! [Review 11872 overall, 1654 of 2019.] read more

This place is huge, clean, modern staffed with tons of friendly and knowledgeable staff. There is a huge selection of firearms and the staff are very open to questions and assistance. This place has multiple indoor shooting ranges and you can rent a huge array of different guns to shoot, so you can see which you prefer. The center offers tons of courses you can take. I registered for a 3-hour CCW beginner pistol course and was a little worried to be in a class full of beginners but didn't need to be. The class was taught by 2 recently retired police officers/ a former VB SWAT team member, as well as a medic. They only allowed 1:1 shooting which was great for safety and kept an eye on all the members of the class as well. The classes are very reasonably priced as is the merchandise for sale. This is the nicest shooting range and retail store combination I've seen- it's large and efficient. read more

I am not from Virginia Beach and wanted to get some range time. I was told about Freedom Outdoors, so I looked them up and saw quit a lot of bad reviews. Bad customer service, rude staff, having to fill out paper work etc. I am from Wash DC and I didn't see any of that! Staff was great and answered all my questions about using the range, cost, and rentals. Helped my son choose a rental pistol, get targets, eye and hearing protection. I was called sir through the whole process. The selection of rental fire arms was quit extensive and ammo was very reasonable.
