The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. The handgun ranges are modern, with automated target systems controlled by the shooter. Sound damping, positive air flow, and reminders about safety factors such as washing hands to remove heavy metal contamination are all in plac-. The safety standards on the range are excellent, being cautious, and enforced in a prompt, helpful manner rather than the all-to-common screaming at you like a drill instructor. The reservation system has reduced wait times. The sale area is small but merchandise has been selected more to satisfy range needs rather than duplicating the main store which is within a few miles. The staff (range, sales, administration-membership) all seem to be open to suggestions for improvement. And another strong point - I have never encountered an effort at a hard sell for merchandise, membership, or any other offering. read more

I have been a member at this range since it was Winding Brook. It has always been clean and well run and I shoot here on a regular, at least monthly, basis. One of the issues others noted is the wait times and not being able to join as a member. When the former Colonial closed, that put a lot of pressure on Green Top and it became extremely popular. Personally, I have never waited more that 20 minutes or so to shoot, even on really crowded days. Staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable and I have never had problems. Range is always clean and functioning, though, I would say, the lighting levels could be bumped up a bit. Target carrier system works great and you have the ability to do timed shoots, ie, the targets edge and face. They hold monthly Glock matches (GSSF Indoor) and those are well attended, myself included. read more

This was the best time I'm ever had at any shooting range. The staff was nice and helpful without being condescending or pushy. As a woman, I've oftentimes been talked down to at the range. I didn't feel like this at all at green top. Plus it was affordable and you can bring your own ammo. They have a large selection of guns if you wish to try something new. The facility is clean, they are stocked with all the things you'll need to have an enjoyable shooting experience and overall it was a decent time BUT... While for the most part the range was actually well put together and managed from what I experienced my first time there, there is an issue with the range itself. Have you ever been to a night club, pre indoor smoking ban? The day we went was particularly busy and every lane was filled with people shooting. Now I dont know if youve been shooting in an enclosed area before but the act of shooting live ammunition creates smoke from the burned powder in the ammunition. When you have 8-10 people all shooting at the same time, this creates a lot of smoke. That said the range was full of people all shooting and the range became filled with smoke and there was from what I could tell zero fans for ventilation and the smoke was just hanging in the air like a night club. So its now days later and Im still coughing up the smell and taste of the range and the smoke that was filling the area. Not super happy about this because Id never been at a range like this that was filled with people shooting all at once before so this has never happened to me. Guess Ive always been lucky and gone off hours and didnt have to deal with this or the other places I went to had better air circulation. Frankly I worry about the range managers working there and their exposure to this stuff cuz its nasty. Its a nice place and the folks working there seemed like decent folks, but the lack of air circulation is a problem and I likely wont be returning. Thankfully I have other options in the area but I wanted to try this out and see what they were all about. read more

Stopped by today to put some rounds through my new firearm. We got in quick as we got there 20 min before they opened and waited in line. That was about the end of good experience today. I felt I was continually being man-splained to as they spoke different to my husband vs me. My husband had me using a crappy ammo which got stuck in the barrel. We told the range officer who couldnt get it out so he called another. Thankfully the second officer used some other tools and got the casing out. He then started telling me why the ammo was bad which I told him I hadn't wanted to use but my husband wanted to get through it. After that we started using regular ammo but the aiming was off. The officer told my husband to teach me to use the sights. He told the officer that I have been shooting for years and know how to use my sights. The officer then came over to me and told me I was hitting the ceiling which I've never done in the past so I stopped shooting and left. It was as if they felt anything that went wrong was my doing. I'm now home, about to clean my firearm and see if it might have been damaged by my husband's crappy ammo or the officers that removed the casing. We were considering becoming members because we go here often but after todays experience we probably wont, become members or go here as often. Hoping our next experience goes back to that of previous visits and we can reconsider. read more

One of the few ranges within a 30-40 mile radius that can accommodate some heavier weapons and calibers. I came here 3-4 times over a five month period and never had any issues. They offer ranges, select ammunition, targets, and classes throughout the week. This location is the RANGE, down the road some there is a Green Top store that has all your outdoor needs. I learned this a few weeks later, didn't realize they had a store as well. read more

This is an outstanding facility. Even though I infrequently use the range, it is still worth the membership fee. Cleanliness is the standard for the shooting bays and the sales, rental, display and administration areas. The shooting bays/shooting lanes are modern with excellent target handling equipment. Range personnel are attentive and safety aware without being overbearing. Help is gladly offered, if asked, without being condescending. There are no store counter "Rambo" types and the overall staff attitude is friendly and polite. Store stock varies in availability as it does everywhere. Prices are competive. Wait times for a firing lane are usually short to moderate, dependent on available range staff. I expect they are facing staff shortages as are so many businesses. If you have the slightest interest, it is worth a visit to the range and to their website. read more

The complete experience!! My wife and I were at Green Top Shooting Range yesterday and rented their Ruger PC 9mm carbine. She liked it, so we decided to buy one for her. They had the carbine, red dot sights and weaponlights in stock, so we were able to get it customized right there. In addition, the store staff were very helpful and did the following for us: 1) switch the charging handle to the left side for easier use; 2) remove the forward sling mount for easier access to the weaponlight; and 3) replace the Ruger magazine well with the one for Glock magazines that comes standard with the PC-9. So, in one place we got to: 1) try the gun before buying it; 2) buy it while at the store, same day; 3) customize it there at the store. Again, the complete experience!! read more

Great indoor range. Staff are A+ friendly, and the facility is always looking clean and organized. A much nicer place compared to other ranges in VA. Prices are reasonable, $23 per hour doesn't seem ridiculous, and the shop with Green Top now sells a bunch of great accessories, ammo, carrying cases, etc. The touch screen feature is nice in the lanes, it makes it real easy to control distance. I had my gun in layaway. At sale price went to pick up and finish paying and they charged me regular price for it. I called and got no response back. It is at least a half hours drive from here one way and lots of interstate traffic. I just credit my credit card the have all information. To save me a third trip over there. Had to get a manager to call me back. No one has called. I guess Im going to have to make the trip. Not very satisfied with service. read more

Very disorganized. People were renting at the purchase counter and buying at the rental counter. We stood in "line" for 15 minutes as staff walked in circles around us, and finally we asked an employee for assistance. He looked at his watch and said it was too late to rent because they closed in an hour, but he could go over what they had if I wanted to come back tomorrow.
