We only make it to Whidbey Island twice per year, at best. Based on several favorable reviews, we made a point to visit Holme's Harbor Cellars this time. It's easy to drive right past (and we did the first time), but we found the small turn up the driveway coming back the other way. They have the signage out there, we just needed to slow down and get on island time. Cute place with an aviation theme based on the owner's work as a fighter pilot. Thanks for your service. The lady working the tasting area was very kind, but not very knowledgeable about their offerings, nor was she able to steer us in any direction based on our preferred taste profiles. She loved the wines at HHC, which is honorable, but not incredibly helpful. All the wines available for the tastings this Sunday were ok, but their big reds were not part of it. She said they weren't able to open any for tasting since the weekend was over, which is too bad. Other wineries like Wedge Mountain do this same thing, which I fail to understand. We stated we like big reds and are members of two other wineries on the island. Seems to me worth taking a chance on a customer that makes a jaunt a couple times a year and spends money on club wines, expressing a desire for what the winery has dubbed their flagship offerings. The pods and outdoor heaters are very nice, the grounds are attractive, we just didn't care for the lighter reds, blends, and whites we were offered. We did buy a bottle of one decent blend at full price, and they didn't comp or reduce the price of even one tasting. Fine, if that's the policy, but it won't bring us back. read more

Such a sweet winery! A flight of 4 wines is only $10, and on Thursday's it's happy hour, which means buy one flight, get one free (yes, you read that right). The winery has a pretty view of the bay and some bunnies running around, and the service was lovely. There's also plenty of heat lamps! The only downside is that the winery is placed between two other private properties, so it feels a bit like you're intruding on other peoples land. But overall, would definitely recommend this place! read more

This winery is gorgeous! There are water views or seats right in the vineyard. There's a cut dog named Maggie that runs around and lets you pet her occasionally as well. The person serving us our wine was very friendly and knowledgeable about what we were having. We did a tasting and ended up buying a few bottles. There weren't any wines that I was disappointed by! They all had unique flavors, but the Lemberger was my personal favorite. Overall, I definitely recommend this winery to visit! It was one of my top favorite wineries on the island! I will be taking friends back here next time I visit. read more

Beautiful views at this winery of both the water and the vines. When we arrived the small parking lot next to the tasting room was full so we parked behind in the overflow area. They have a lot of different wines available for tasting, glasses, and bottles. We got a bottle of the Cab Franc which was nice and dry. Would like to come back and taste more. We also sat next to Kilo the parrot who was a bit noisy, but cute to look at while we hung out. read more

The staff were all very nice and the location was amazing. There is a fantastic view of the water over the Vinyard and plenty of the families animals running around to keep everyone entertained. We got the cab franc and it was a fantastic flavor, this Vinyard is the best all around package on the island. read more

Holmes Harbor Cellars has a great selection of wines to sample. The outdoor tasting area is beautiful and has a gorgeous view of the bay. Apparently, the owner even has a cockatoo that spends time outside in the garden, but was not present when we came to visit. I wanted to write a review and thank you to Greg Martinez, the owner and winemaker at Holmes Harbor Cellars. My boyfriend and I visited Holmes Harbor four years ago during our first dating anniversary and thought it was by far the best wine we tried on the island. While there, Greg was kind enough to sign a bottle for us to commemorate the occasion. Fast forward a few years to our fourth anniversary and I decided to order a few bottles to surprise my boyfriend and remind us of our first visit. After discovering the vintage I had ordered was actually no longer in stock, Greg sent me two bottles from his personal collection and again signed a bottle for my boyfriend and I. We just enjoyed celebrating last night and sharing the bottle took us right back to that first year. The exceptional wine Holmes Harbor Cellars makes is reason enough to visit or track down a bottle for purchase, but the personal touch and genuine interest in their customers is something that has made me a lifelong fan. They have an amazing spot with wonderful views and great decor as well. Since covid they've put up a tent which is nice for being outdoors even when it rains. We recently did the tasting of 6 - the white wines were room temp which is never good for white wine, I really liked one of the reds and the others were all very decent too. While Whidbey is no Napa Valley, it does have a growing selection of wineries that are producing some reputable Northwest wines. Holmes Harbor Cellars is one of these. Greg Martinez was trained at the esteemed UC Davis Viticulture and Enology School in California, and with the help of his chemist wife Theresa Martinez, they have already created some awards winning reds in their few short years in business. This was such a beautiful property. It really set the ambiance for the tasting. The only thing that took away from it was the neon "Open" sign. Please. For the love of all things holy, please remove that sign. We paid the $10 tasting fee, which wasn't bad. Their set up was nice and we were told what we were drinking and was provided chocolate to pair. I liked the white wines, but found the reds too peppery. My friend seemed to enjoy them. read more

We found the winery and its Tuscan style tasting room at the end of a drive up a secluded road. The scenery reminded me of a very wet version of what we would see driving in California's wine country as opposed to the tasting rooms in the Woodenville strip malls. The owner winemaker wasn't around the day we stopped by, but the fellow behind the counter knew the wines he was serving. They source their grapes from eastern Washington and do a nice job of crafting fine wines. We bought a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Holmes Harbor Winery is a must if visiting Whidbey Island. We are wine club members and frequently stop in for a tasting. Their wines are delicious, especially any of their reds. My favorites are the Three Wire, Petit Verdot, Red Etude, and Merlot. We love their wine so much we served it at our wedding. Not only is the wine phenomenal but the owners and Jerry are delightful and welcoming. I highly recommend visiting this winery. read more

I can be a bit of a wine snob, and after spending a half day going to 3 other wineries and being disappointed, Holmes did not disappoint. They are not just the usual rich white retired people looking to start the winery they always dreamed about. They studied wine, learned the craft, and produce good wine. We stop with friends for wine tasting - not happy at all. The host wasn't engaging. We didn't like any of the wines, they all were very stingy and not pleasant on taste, some of it had wired smell as well. read more
