I purchased my Pug Brutus from The Pet Company in March of 2003. It appears that he was sold from Kay Rethman (Willow Creek Kennel) to a puppy broker called Lambriar Kennels and then to The Pet Company. Brutus passed away on December 28, 2007 at the very young age of 5. Brutus had several severe health problems (that I knew of) including: . Hip dysplasia in both hips . Eye pigmentations (that according to the specialty eye vet would have eventually blinded him) . Severe food and other allergies (over 14 items) . Severe weight issues (he was 28.8 pounds at the time of his death) . Demodectic Mange . Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) In this case, Brutus was the victim of a puppy mill. A puppy mill is someone who breeds animals with no concern of their health. They only breed to make money. They do not care about the health of the animal. They only care how much money they can get for the animal. I spent over $7,000 on Brutus and he was only 5. I would highly recommend that you do not purchase ANY dog or cat from a pet store or any company that supports puppy mills. Find a reputable breeder that cares about the health of their animals and is only breeding to improve the breed. Please contact me if you would like additional information or have a similar situation like Brutus.

I was recently in a horrible mall in Connecticut, and I went into the Pet Company. Nothing but a bunch of sad-looking older puppies lying on metal grates. The pug they had there was from Lambriar puppy brokers. He was tall and thin and his face was not flat--nothing like the breed standard. The saddest thing, though, was that he was lethargic, with runny eyes. DO NOT SUPPORT THE PET COMPANY IN ANY WAY! Erin W., do you have special needs? How ignorant and careless does one have to be to actually buy a puppy at a mall pet store, THEN go on to tout the store's virtues? 'Spaded?' I think you mean 'spayed.'

He asked what type of pet I have and then explained the layout of the store. (I have a Pittie btw). There are a lot of products in this store! They have all the usual suspects: kibble, wet food, treats, refrigerated, etc. What sets them apart from other pet stores is that everything is neat and tidy and in their own specific sections. Everything is easy to get to and the selection is fantastic. But what really made my visit special was William. He was warm, cheerful, informative and genuine. As I waited in line I saw William interact with EVERY customer that walked through the door and those that waited in line. He had an intimate conversation with each of us but not too long so that we weren't kept waiting in line. He signed me up for their pet program for future discounts and even gave recommendations on hiking trails for my dog and me. Most of all, it was so relaxing in the store. I didn't feel rushed and there was no music blaring or dogs barking. Although there were a couple of cute ferrets sleeping, rabbits burrowing and parakeets chirping in their cozy little homes near the register. Thank you William and Pet Supermarket for making my first visit a great visit. Have a lovely holiday weekend!
