Ordinarily, I visit a Petco to pick a few pet products here and there. During a recent search for cost-effective places to have vaccinations updated I came across Vetco, which I veterinary clinics at Petco. After reading the website and discovering that the prices are reasonable, there are no office visit fees and no appointments required, it seemed to be worth checking out. Upon arrival, I discovered there was already a line. In the end, the whole thing may have taken 35-40 minutes. The The process was fairly efficient -- there was someone at the beginning of the line to complete check-in and register your pet prior to meeting with the Vet. Truly a great way to make good use of the time that we spent waiting. Once it's your turn to see the Vet, they already know why you're there i.e. what vaccinations you want, etc. Dr. Showers administred the vaccination. She was patient, very helpful and friendly. I believe that I good care and service was given at an affordable price. read more

The conditions for the aquatic animals are terrible, dead fish on the filters and rodents in terrariums. Hermit crabs with no sand to burrow in. These are not proper ways to keep animals. Way over stocked on the mice and fish. Those tanks are full of ammonia and uncycled, which is reasonable if these fish are being bought but they're not and they're dying. The grooming services by Nancy are not good. I dropped off for a simple wash and dry and nails for my Sheltie. It took from 11am-1:23pm. Nancy takes frequent smoke breaks. My dog was still wet and she did not do a Sani on my dog as I asked. It cost $60! I have had other groomers there that are excellent. Nancy is not good. read more

Terrible customer service. After I dropped off my dog they called me to tell me they would not be able to un matt his legs so they would cut the hair short as well as to tell me he would be ready in 30 minutes. Knowing how untimely Petco is I gave them an extra 20 minutes before I picked Milo up. When I got to Petco they said he wasn't ready and it would be 10 more minutes. 40 minutes later and he was finally ready. Keep in mind I was on lunch break. On top of the extra long wait they charged me extra for de-matting materials when clearly they just trimmed his legs. This is my second bad experience with Petco therefore it's the last time they'll get our business. read more

Donald is an absolutely wonderful groomer and very friendly person. My dog Bailey loves him. Whenever he sees him, he gets so excited! As for his grooming capabilities, he always comes home smelling great, looking great and with his head held high! He is very time efficient and works with your wants and schedule. Then when I mentioned about the terrible haircut and was not going to pay for how he looked, they got mad and had my dog restricted from getting a haircut at Petco when he's been going there for 6years!!! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! DON'T DO IT! RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION! They don't LISTEN or follow Customer's Request! Donald was a great groomer! But he recently started his own business and left Petco. Today I took my pup Mylo for a bath and asked Nancy to trim the fur on his paws and his butt area! She said the trim of butt and paws would be an additional charge, which I had no problem with. This woman took it upon herself to cut his face, his whole snout and cut off his eyelashes! WARNING!!!!!!! Do not let this woman groom your dog. She is easily distracted and doesn't listen to specific instructions! I should of listened to my gutt instinct, when she was asking for his updated shots even though, he was fully vaccinated and had been there 10 times before. I will never bring Mylo there again! Petco grooming at Cobb Parkway has even more awful management than before! I left them a few years ago, after I caught their previous manager handing my dog off to unknown helpers, when he was her established groomer. I was very disappointed, but at least Donald wasn't rude to me, like the new manager, Rebekah was. I recently gave them a second chance, since they're under new management. They seem to make up new policies as they go along, without making customers aware. This caused them to refuse my first appointment because my dog was given half of a prescribed sedative beforehand. With disappointment, I rescheduled for another ~3 weeks later. Their automated system had sent multiple reminders to the wrong phone number for the first appointment, and then sent no reminders for the rescheduled appointment at all. When I showed up on the day I'd written in my calendar, Rebekah said I had come on the wrong day. When I politely asked about their poor communication, her only indignant answer, was that she has no control over an automated system and maybe my tripod dog, who Sydney had met and agreed to groom, should go to the vet to be groomed, since Rebekah said she had "an anxiety issue and can't stand up anyway." The truth is that my rescue dog was born at a puppy mill with one leg not fully formed below the knee, due to irresponsible inbreeding. She absolutely CAN stand up, although she may need to lean some on her shorter leg after awhile. She was groomed at this location for multiple years, on the mild sedative, by the previous manager, Donald. Although Sydney had met and scheduled my dog ~ 6 weeks before, Rebekah refused to reschedule my dog with Sydney, saying she was the new manager and that was the new policy, apparently as of that moment. Rebekah denying services to my dog because of this congenital difference is absolutely discriminatory and felt like a mean retaliation for me asking about their poor communication system. Not only was my dog discriminated against, but I found the manager Rebekah to be incredibly rude, mean and entirely unprofessional. I absolutely would NOT ever trust this place to take care of my dogs again. read more

I have been bringing ALL my dogs to this Petco location for grooming for almost 2 years now & I have never been more SHOOK & pissed tf off. I only take my dog (Zeke) to Petco for grooming. I trust Petco Cumberland . Nancy does an outstanding job. She knows Zeke by name and puts me at ease when I leave him. We were looking for a groomer for our new puppy, so we called this location's grooming department to inquire what kind of services they provide, how long we could expect the services to take, and how expensive they would be. We also specifically requested the salon's hours, and whether or not they would be able to squeeze us in that day. After chatting with the person on the phone for about 5 minutes and receiving a quote for the services we were interested in (a bath and haircut), we packed the puppy up and drove all the way to the store. We greeted by the very same person we had just spoken with via telephone, only to learn that the groomer was, in fact, NOT in that day, so our puppy could only be washed, not groomed. ...Really? You couldn't have told us on the phone half an hour earlier that the very services we were inquiring about couldn't actually be performed that day? Don't you think that might have been useful info to share with us? Not a fan. I have since been visiting the Petsmart further up Cobb Pkwy and I have received much better service. read more

I like Petco as one of the major players of big pet companies vs PetSmart. I have been shopping at various locations, specifically in Edgewood for awhile until this one moved closer to my area in Cobb. I find the staff usually helpful, the groomers at Edgewood have always been very good! At this location I have always had a good experience, store well stocked and lots of what I need to choose from. My lil dog dines on the more expensive dog foods as I've found them to fit her needs more and particularly as she ages, she's now 8. We use the Instinct brand (which you'll never find at PetSmart). They also carry the "limited ingredient" ones for pets with special diets or allergies. Yes, our pets have allergies too just like our human lil ones...LOL Over the years I am amazed at how far a pet store has come...its crazy but good at the same time. If you are uncertain these kinds of stores may overwhelm you,.. so simply ask for help or take time and educate yourself on todays pets and their specific needs. Surely you may find something in Petco that will suit what ever type of pet you have. I will always return to this location and other Petco stores as well :-) read more

New Petco that opened in the area next to a Toys R Us and some other stores. The store is bright, clean, and they even sell some marine/saltwater fish which many large pet stores have stopped doing. I took my dogs in for grooming at night and last minute because one of my dog's dew claw had became too long and she was starting to act lethargic due to it hurting. In the past, I've usually gone to smaller places to get this done thinking they'd do a better job. Let me just say, "WOW! I did not know you can get boutique level service from a large chain store!" Drew, the groomer was great at taking care of my dogs. He was kind, courteous, and very attentive to the needs and the moods of my pups. When I picked them up a couple of hours later, they smelled great and were both cheery and playful. The price for the service was very reasonable too. This Petco has changed my opinion on pet grooming and I'll definitely be coming here from now on. Both my pups and I are very satisfied customers. read more

On the Petco website, it does not advertise that this location does grooming. This is a shame because they have some of the nicest people on their grooming staff, and overall. Their grooming area is SUPER clean and always smells good. I decided to take my 8 month old Westie puppy to this Petco a few weeks back to get a bath and his nails trimmed. The lady (I can't remember her name) that worked with me was very friendly, and made sure she knew exactly what I wanted. I decided to take him back for the full grooming last night since I had such a good experience the first time...and wow! So impressed! Drew was our groomer. He did a full inspection of my pup before and asked what my expectations were. He was very thorough with explaining the entire grooming process and assured me that if Hudson was feeling anxious that he would give him a break to settle down (this was only his 2nd full grooming). Hudson came out looking fantastic! He even got a bag of goodies from Petco, and a finishing spray that made him smell amazing. I will definitely be taking my little guy here again for his next haircut! read more

So I had to come to this petco because my dog's ears were not cleaned very well from another petco and I was too far to get it redone because I was evacuating Florida. This Petco informed me that they couldn't clean my dog's ear because they weren't the ones who cleaned them but the guy took my dog and cleaned them anyways to make sure they were cleaned properly. He didn't have to do it but it was very nice of him to do. Other then that, they have a lot of supplies for animals but a limited amount of fishes and plants. read more

I've waited to leave this review, hoping that a conclusion could be reached to this situation, but it never did. We wanted our German Shepherd groomed for the holidays since a family member is allergic to dogs. Our regular grooming location was closed on Christmas Eve so I opted to take my dog to PetCo near my work. If you know German Shepherds, you know there are two main times a year in which their coats go through a change which results in higher hair output (they shed year-round.) This was one of the seasons: ridding of the lighter coat for the thicker coat for Winter. I was very clear in what I wanted to have done to my dog: a bath, dry, light brushing, sanitary trim, and nail trim. When the (rude) woman looked up at me (she was "assessing my dog") she asked, "sanitary trim?" Sanitary trim is a very common term used in grooming as any professional groomer should know this. It merely means the hair is trimmed around the pads of the paw and around the dog's private areas. With an attitude, she sighed, and I handed my dog over to them with his collar and leash. When I picked up my dog, I was shocked. They put his leash on him (and a choke chain I had brought) and handed me his other collar. It was broken. It was in perfectly normal condition when I brought it into them, but now the built in handle was broken as a heavy duty stainless steel fastener was now gone. I also noticed that my dog had been SHAVED (as in a body shave.) All of his hair was "broken" and chopped. The worst part was he didn't even have a sanitary trim! He still had hair around his pads and privates. It seemed all they did was bathe him and shave him. I did not ask for a shave. His coat was not tangled or matted needing to be shaved for health purposes. I couldn't wait to get out of there and was incredibly annoyed at what my dog now looked like as well as a broken collar. I begrudgingly paid the price as I had to get back to work, and I sent an email to PetCo. PetCo then contacted the store and had the store manager call me two weeks later. I did not answer my phone as I was at work and cannot have a personal phone in my workplace. She left a message. I called her back that evening, but I was told she "had just left for the day." I tried calling a week later, and I was told she hadn't come in yet. Another week went by, and she called again during my work hours. I called back ten minutes later on my lunchbreak, and she had stepped out. After playing phone tag for nearly a month, I received an email from Petco stating the "We are writing about your concern in our Cobb County - Smyrna Store. The upper management in charge of the store has tried to contact you at ....However, they are unable to speak with you. If possible, kindly provide us your preferred contact number and time. Alternatively, please contact the store at 770-952-9701 and look for General Manager. They are looking forward to hear from you." I was incredibly frustrated as I HAD called them back...and whenever I did, there was always a reason why they couldn't be reached. I tried one more time, and I even tried calling to speak to the General Manager, but, guess what? They weren't there yet. I left my name and number, and I never heard back. I gave up. I paid $60 (exact was something like $62 or $64 - I donated to the charity there) and decided I would NEVER go back to that store again. If you don't mind a groomer who doesn't bother listening to you, does the opposite of what you ask, and management that would rather give you the run-around than fix a problem, then feel free to use this groomer. read more

I dropped my dog off this morning at 9 am and she is still not done being groomed at 5:30. The lady in the grooming department was rude She then asked me if I realized I registered my dog online as the wrong breed ( she is a mix so I picked one). When asked how I wanted her groomed I told her shorter ears and tail, and shaved a little overall. She told me that is not enough and she needed to be told how I wanted her groomed. DO not recommend and will NOT go back. When I called at 4:30 they were finishing her up which was ridiculous since she had already been there so long, but that was over an hour ago and I still not have been called. read more

Scheduled an appointment with the Petco in Douglasville and decided to call another Petco closest to where I was at the time. I spoke with Donald and he was able to schedule a same-day appointment for a first-time bath and trimming for my 5-month old Yorkie. When we arrived, we were greeted by Donald and quickly became a fan of his patience and outstanding customer service. He did a thorough inspection of my puppy and clearly explained the what the service would include. Shortly after completing the paperwork, Donald confirmed the grooming would take a couple of hours and did not try to oversell me anything other than what was needed. Shortly after 8pm he called to informed me that my puppy was ready. Upon arrival, Donald shared with me Bear's first-time grooming experience and informed me that my puppy did well outside of the brushing of his coat. He provided great advise - from the type of harness to use and daily maintenance of Bear's coat. Needless to say, my experience was great and Donald's patience and customer service was a winner. This is solely for the grooming department. If I could give them negative stars I would. I just moved from the DC area and I have doodle mixed dog. If you have one you know how challenging it can be to find a groomer for doodles. Only experienced groomers should touch them because they have long hair and are somewhat of a difficult groom. Due to this I did research for two weeks trying to find a groomer. I saw awesome reviews about Donald at this location. I called twice to specifically get Donald for my dog. He told me he could do Saturday at 1pm. Although this was inconvenient for my family we booked this time because I really wanted Donald. He also informed me that the other groomer that would be there on Sunday (the ideal day for me) should not do a doodle. I rearranged my schedule to get my dog in for Donald. Now, my husband drops my dog off at 1pm with a pick up time of 5pm. 5pm comes around no call...6pm...nothing. They close at 8. So my husband goes at 7:15pm. They are just cutting my dog and Donald is grooming another dog and Nancy is working on my dog. When asked why Donald is not grooming my dog his answer is well he wasn't my preferred customer!!! On top of that it is 7:20pm and they are just cutting my dog who got dropped off at 1 which means he was sitting in a kennel all day. My dog doesn't even use a crate a home and goes to a crate free doggy daycare so I was bit upset that they put him a crate all day long....If you can not accommodate do not make the appointment! To make matters worst this was THE worst groom I had ever seen. When Donald told me on the phone that the other girl didn't groom doodles he was 100% right because she did such a bad job. Uneven hair, super choppy, no brush out. They didn't do his tail. No shave of the sanitary area...Absolutely unacceptable in every way. My husband spoke with the manager who comped the groom. A lady came out with her poodle that Donald did (looked great by the way) and laughed when she saw my dog because it was so bad. We now have to let his hair grow out and take him to another groomer. My husband had to clean up our dog with scissors when we got home because it was so uneven and she had missed patches of hair. The manager asked us to give them another chance when they had more staff...no thanks. never again. Do not take your dog here!!! Even if you make an appointment for Donald they will give your dog to whoever is there. Terrible Service! read more

I meant to give this place a positive review a while ago but never did. The store is well-maintained, and the animals are generally well taken care of. I came here to buy a guinea pig, and asked if there was a return policy if the animal turns out to be sick or something. The manager on duty looked at me like I was nuts and slipped a "..no.." out of his mouth before leaving to tidy the shelves. The associate at the counter gave me the standard "I agree to take good care of this animal" form, which I filled out and noted that PETCO guarantees a 14-day return window in the case of animal illness and the terms that the company will pay any and all veterinary costs within the two-week window. I left a bad review on the PETCO website, and the store manager called me and explained how she reprimanded the department manager I spoke with. She said that he did recall the policy when speaking to her (magically), and that she would issue some store-wide re-training on said policies. She gave me a coupon for my next purchase and some chew blocks for my new pet. I'll give the place 4 stars simply because of her treatment of me and the situation. Everything I need for my cavies is there at the store, and at reasonable prices. There is usually a sale going on, too, which is nice. read more
