I was in town visiting my family for the holidays and went to run a few errands with my mom. It wasn't convenient to her house my any means, but when I went inside I understood why it was worth the extra drive. This store is QUALITY from the products offered to the great customer service. The store is small and pretty narrow, but they really maximize the space to fit in all of their products. The products mostly seemed to focus on dogs and cats, but they may have had products for other pets as well- I wasn't looking. The dog food I was checking out was all very high quality brands, including pre-made food for a raw diet. They have an assortment of toys, leashes, and other pet essentials as well. I love knowing that there is a place "back home" that carries my dog's food in case any travel emergencies come up. I was really impressed by the man who was working. He was very kind and he was super knowledgeable about the various products in the store. My mother is close to having to make a difficult decision for one of her senior dogs and he was very patient and kind with her. He not only helped her talk through some of the difficult subject, but offered her resources as well. It was a few minutes after closing time on Christmas Eve before we left, but he never appeared bothered by the time or showed any urgency to get us out of the shop. They seem to have a great store rewards program, although I didn't inquire too much about it since I am not local. A portion of their proceeds go directly back to the animals through Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends. I'm so glad that the pups from my childhood have such a great local shop & that my mom goes out of her way to support such a great local business! I would definitely make AARF my "go-to" store if I still lived in the area! read more

Okay, I must admit biased. I am an Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends volunteer and former foster parent so I'm really proud that the group was able to finally open a brick and mortar center and retail location to support the work they do. There are a few facts that even my bias can't change. Here are just a few: 1.) AARF Pet Central's prices are way competitive. A much better value for your money than the big pet supply stores. They also offer gently used supplies like collars and leashes for folks on a tight budget. 2.) When you purchase something from AARF Pet Central, you are contributing to the rescue efforts of AARF which means you are helping pay for the vetting, boarding, food and supplies for AARF's rescue animals. It's called conscientious shopping folks! 3.) AARF's founders and director research all the food, toys and supplies before offering them in the store to make sure your pet is getting the most nutritional food (including dry and raw offerings!), toys that are fun and safe and supplies that meet your needs. They've been dedicated to rescue since 2002 so they know their business. Wow! This place and its staff totally impressed me! I have found my new pet needs supplier! Did you know that all the proceeds from sales go towards their rescue shelter!?! How cool is that!?! I came in with a lot of questions about how to best care for a new pet, a cat. I was pleasantly greeted and all my questions were listened to and thoroughly answered to my satisfaction! I discovered AARF while looking for a very specific brand of dog food. Their location was the closest to me, so I set my GPS and off I went. I not only discovered a GREAT store for dogs (and cats!), but two of the most helpful, knowledgeable, kind, caring, compassionate people on the planet. Brook & Susan "got it going on" ... they are intimately familiar with every item in their store. If you are looking for something specific and they don't have it, they'll do online research for you and help you find it elsewhere or order it and bring it to their store. I did not purchase the food I originally went to AARF to get (cost prohibitive to feed the # of dogs I feed + currently unemployed) but with Susan's help, picked out something equally as rich with quality ingredients but at a much more "unemployed" friendly price point. I've been back to AARF several times and it's really more like going to visit with two old friends "where everybody knows your name" versus a big box store where you are practically invisible until you whip out a credit card. I've bought toys, leashes, treats ... and all have been top quality!! I've taken all of my dogs to visit and Brook and Susan are always quick to lavish love on them and treats. My favorite errand is buying pet food. We have a dog and 3 cats; price is an issue, but so is quality. The prices at AARF are very competitive and more importantly, I know that I am feeding my beloved pets food that is good for them. Susan and Brook research every product before it comes in the door, so they can give great advice for specific dietary needs and budget restraints. Plus, every purchase gives you points towards free treats or another reward. AARF is also my go-to source for cool toys, treats, scratching posts, and anything else I need for my pets. It's so nice to be able to walk into a store, be greeted by name, and be able to trust that every single product in the store has been screened for safety and quality. I also love the fact that every single purchase I make is supporting a great cause. Whether it's one of the resident foster cats or another animal in the AARF network, my purchase is saving lives and giving animals a second chance at a forever home. My dollars do double-duty at AARF - helping animals every time I shop for my own pets. They also have dog-washing facilities and the tub has a ramp for dogs with mobility issues. It's hard to believe it's been less than a year that we've been shopping at AARF. Susan and Brook are like part of our family now and I trust their advice on everything from flea control to what food to try with my finicky cats. I would drive across town to shop here, but I am lucky enough to live just minutes away. I have been to the store twice now in the past month and both times I've had an excellent experience! The employees are very knowledgeable, friendly and go above and beyond. The store itself is very clean and organized. AARF will even deliver your pets food on a day that is convenient for you. (There's a small fee over 5 miles but it's totally worth it!) I can't begin to express how much I and my sweet furry girl Sophia love and appreciate AARF! I have been buying Sophia's food and treats from AARF for about 2 1/2 - 3 years now and we have had the best experience shopping here the entire time. The customer service is impeccable and the prices are super great too. But it doesn't matter - even if the prices were a bit higher, the customer service I receive from Susan, Brooke and Jeff would be worth spending a few extra dollars. Their knowledge, expertise and experience were invaluable to me when I switched to raw and while I was trying to find the right food my picky girl would eat! Especially Susan who has the pet nutrition education to be able to assist with specific food and nutrition issues even most vets are unfamiliar with! They are always patient when answering my 100+ questions and have educated me on the proper nutritional needs for Sophia. Never did I feel they said or did anything to force me to buy more products from them than I needed. On the contrary-they are super generous and have given me NUMEROUS samples for Sophia to try over the years and was very understanding when I bought a bag of food that she hated - they happily refunded the price of the food without hesitation. Also to reward return customers, they have frequent shopper cards that will eventually earn you a free bag of treats! Finally, as a furkid mom and advocate for pet rescue and safety, I am happy to support a business that is so heavily involved in pet rescue efforts in general and so generously help uneducated pet moms like me by offering educational clinics and vet clinics at their location. I haven't participated personally, but it's nice to know I am supporting a local business with such a positive and giving business model. I can't believe I've never heard of my neighbors here - I happened to get a tweet about a certain brand of food that is sold at AARF so I went in and it happened to be their 5th anniversary celebration. I found everything I came in for, and more (hehe), and walked out with an armful at a great discounted anniversary price! The owner of the AARF store said I came into her store wanting two kittens she never even knew I was looking for two kittens until she read it in my review she never even ask us if she could help us she was to busy telling us what not to touch like her cats that are roaming around the store. The only words that we're said between us was I ask her if we could go in the room with all the cats to look at them she said I had to fill out a form and then she would decide at that point we turn and immediately left and will never return. Very rude then you try to make it sound like I got mad excuse me I came into your store to spend money if you plan on staying in business you might should know you the " owner " are suppose to treat your few customers with respect. read more
