This boarding ranch was so easy to communicate with and the family was so knowledgeable about dogs and you can tell it is a true passion. I look forward to visiting again and will use J.L. After a Rover appointment canceled our Thanksgiving arrangements, we contacted Ruff Ranch in desperation. Ruff Ranch is located off the 154 just before Los Olivos. It's in a beautiful, ranch setting. While we needed to have a free trial stay first, we took half the day off on a Friday, dropped Bruce off and had a nice lunch in Solvang. The facilities are spacious and perfectly clean with zero odor. All the personnel were happy and friendly, as were the dogs. We were skeptical at first when they said they would put Bruce in a group with older, mellower dogs. When we returned, they said he did great and even made some friends. My wife and I were both shocked and pleased. Ruff Ranch was on our way to a Northern California Thanksgiving stay. He boarded for 3 nights and we included the pre-pickup bath. At pickup, he was happy, squeaky clean, nails trimmed with zero issues reported. We are thankful and relieved to have a place to board Bruce in the future with people that really know and love dogs - and it showed in our dog's demeanor at pickup. They also offer obedience training, which I believe is how they can so quickly tailor an optimal setting and experience for your dog, and get them adjusted and safe. Ruff Ranch even offers a shuttle pickup service from SB. We are very relieved that we have a reliable and comfortable boarding solution for our dog in the future; I can't recommend The Ruff Ranch enough.

When I picked him up nothing was said to me; however, within an hour I knew something was wrong because of the way he was acting, and he showed the signs of being stung. I took him to an emergency vet, and, as expected, they advised he had an allergic reaction to "something, most likely a bee." He was treated and released the next day. After I took him in, I called Ruff Ranch, and they admittedly said they gave him Benadryl, but again, didn't bother to let me know. Completely negligent operation at Ruff Ranch as our dog could have died had I not been home with him or preoccupied and was not closely monitoring him.

He's a little guy, so he tends to go downhill quickly if he doesn't get treatment quickly. The vet I typically use said they couldn't see him until 3 days later, even after explaining his symptoms. I didn't want to make my pup suffer that long and I was really concerned because it was getting progressively worse rather quickly. I called local vets. Some weren't taking new patients, some didn't have any openings, some weren't friendly or informative over the phone when I called. I called Lompoc Veterinary Clinic, they could not see him HOWEVER, Lori couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. She was so patient and gave me a long list of other local vets & numbers to try. I was very appreciative of her extra efforts and her caring manner. Not long after my conversation with her she called me back telling me she forgot one other option. She totally went the extra mile and my pet isn't even a patient at this clinic. I'm so grateful to Lori because that phone call made all the difference. I called that last option she gave me and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's VERY rare these days where a business does what they're getting paid to do, even more rare when they're going above and beyond without getting paid for it! I SO appreciate Lori's kindness, thoughtfulness, and her going the extra mile. This is exactly the type of service I would love for my fur baby to receive. So while I have not had the opportunity to visit this clinic, I would not hesitate to recommend them based on the EXCELLENT service I received over the phone by Lori. Very grateful. Thank you !

Some months ago, I needed a last minute boarding option for our dog. I called this clinic and they…read moresaid they had room for our 1 year old, unspayed female. I was told that she would be able to run around outside with the other dogs during the day, with nighttimes spent in a run or kennel. Sounds good. We bring her in and I do what I need to do to hand her over. One of the staff members, the older woman with short hair, walks over and gets way closer than necessary. With aggressive body language and tone, she instists on knowing why I won't spay our dog. I say ma'am, I am not looking for an argument. She deflated a bit and backtracked, but really... you got out of your seat to walk over and do this whole song and dance. My ears and vocal chords work just fine. She then tells me that they don't usually let dogs they don't know mingle with the others. This has been our normal vet office. Even so, this was not what I was told over the phone. She spends time with our dog, who is very friendly and behaving toward her the same way she does with everyone, and says that she can be outside. I ask for clarification. She said that our dog will get to be outside, either with the other dogs or by herself and she assured me that she would be out somewhere she could run around. Either way, things sounded ok, but her vibe threw me off. We are gone for a week with no call from the office. I call on the day we are scheduled to pick up, and let them know we will be over shortly. They ask my name and when I say it I get met with panic. The person leaves and returns to the phone more panicked. She says our dog will be ready in a bit. We go to pick her up and the employee I speak with seems nervous. We sit down to wait for our dog and when she comes out, she has to be dragged through the door because she is so scared. The aggressive employee from earlier says something about our dog having memory loss, as she won't go to my 8 year old son on myself, despite our attempts to call her over. Something is obviously wrong. The aggressive employee from earlier has a sick smile on her face. I ask if anything happened. She said aside from anxious diarrhea, nothing out of the ordinary. I see her mouth area is rubbed raw. Does not compute. Did she get to play with the other dogs? She said no, because she kept acting like that --- pointing to her and my son. Our dog started to relax and was was wagging her butt in a play-bow. What did she even mean? So I press more. Did she get to go out at all? Yes, she said. And run around? Yes she said. How big of an area. A dog run she says. How big is that? A good size she says. Dimensions please. She maps out a 4x8 ish area. Really? Well sometimes she got to go into a bigger area. How big? Bigger she says. Wow. How often? Well I don't know I was busy she says. And she becomes more hostile. Basically, I ask for clarification and get the run around and hostility. Weird. And no call about the diarrhea before administering medication? No call at all? As we were leaving she was sure to passive-aggressively thank us and recommend another kennel. What happened to "First, do no harm?"

They worked daily with our dog at Doggie Camp for 28 days and never gave up on her. All of the staff told us how much they loved her and can't wait to have her back for daycare and boarding! I have had my beloved pets seen for years here, but since moving to Santa Barbara we had been going to a vet in that area. It was basically impossible to be seen in Santa Barbara; they would have you wait several weeks and when you were seen, there were hidden costs and tests that had to be done and sent out. All of this was costly and you felt less than part of the family. Well, we decided to make the trek over Highway 154 to have our pets seen at SY Pet Hospital and it was night-and-day 1000% better overall than Santa Barbara vets. We were given an appointment almost right away and the experience was even better than what I had remembered. The staff: Greated us warmly and really connected with us and our dog, a new rescue. There are plenty of smiling faces here to make your worry dissipate and pets pick up on this too... Our dog TOBEY became so relaxed that he wagged his tail during a needle biopsy of a tumor. The adorable vet (Dr Edwards) really took the time to answer our questions and she got down on the floor to be near our dog and relax and comfort him. She looked as his cytology under the microscope before we left (not all vets will do this and you will have to wait days or a week or more to have tests sent out). The Care: Tech is on point. Care measures performed swiftly and everything explained well. The cost: Very affordable compared to most! They don't nickel and dime you. They really seam to care about making sure people can pay for their furry friends. On a side note: Dr Dean has also helped our family several times over the years with care of a rescued Pelican and a rescued Opossum. Their hospital is the essence of eco-friendly, having been created decades ago in a unique full-wall adobe/packed earth manner. He treated me and my boyfriend kindly and made sure all our questions were answered and I didn't feel rushed. He took care of our old senior girl and removed a huge tumor from her that other vets didn't want to do because of the size. He even went out of his way to call the following morning to check in on her to see how she was doing. His staff is also nice specifically Lainey who I want to thank for being so kind and also not rushing me on the phone. I came across so many other vet receptionists who just wanted to get me off the phone when my dog was DYING but Lainey took the time to talk to me and listen.
