Dog review: Big room, tasty grass
    Merek C.

My wife and I are compiling a Mt. Rushmore of dog parks. So far, there's this dog park in Laguna Beach and there's this one. On behalf of my dog, I can safely say there are no dog parks in LA County that are this green, this open, and with as many free toys to play with as this park. Our dog had a great time romping around and indulging in her personal Souplantation (RIP) with the ayce salad situation here. Big fans and if we ever make it back up to wine country or are taking the 101 for a road trip with the doggo we will definitely make a stop here, less than five minutes off the 101

I have been to dozens & dozens of dog parks all over the country and this is really one of the most well designed! Nicely situated with a somewhat dramatic entrance where you use a ramp to go up the short hill to the park -- but which doubles as access for the physically challenged to use (well done, folks!) -- and which has one side for large dogs, which is fairly big, and another for small dogs, which actually also is also pretty big. One of the best parts of it is that it features real grass! The condition of the grass on the small dog side is slightly better but when you have large dogs and playtime that easily wears it down a bit quicker. It is situated on a lovely hillside and is relatively peaceful with lots of chirping birds. The other great thing, especially on the large dog side, is that the ground is sloped, which relatively few dog parks have, and which makes for better exercise for the dogs. Another great thing a lot of dog parks don't have: trees! Several surround the park and a few even with benches under them, which is great for when it gets hot. So I would actually consider this a "destination dog park" -- it's worth the drive from wherever you are in the area, so that your dog can have a great experience. I was visiting Solvang and was so glad it's here. Thank you City Of Buellton, Santa Ynez Valley and whomever was on the original dog park committee -- you did a terrific job!! NOTE: Doggie Mommies & Daddies who have used this park, especially who live in the Buellton/Solvang area -- folks, why aren't you leaving reviews?? There's one from a few months ago and then the next one is from a few years ago. I was stunned to learn from a regular at the park that the park has been here for more than a decade. Not sure if you realize how good you got it here with this dog park in this small city as compared to the poor ones in so many other towns and cities -- sing its praises! (Or maybe you're all just leaving your reviews on Google? )

Best Dog park in the valley! They have a separate area for little dogs and big dogs. Lots of friendly people and well behaved pups. The park is very well kept and clean. There is a trash can available and benches. Trees provide shade and there are many water bowls available with a hose. I will be coming back next time I come to Buellton!

The best dog park in SoCal. Grass, toys, water, benches, respectful owners. Clean. Off leash. Nice dogs. Poop bags. Trash cans. Trees for shade.

Siblings separated at the shelter, and reunited at this park 7 months later :)

I have visited once so far, and both my dog and I loved it. It looks very well kept, and it is spacious. There is a working hose, and plenty of large bowls for dogs to drink out of. There is a large and a small dog area, both separated and fenced. From the parking lot to the dog area gate/entrance you must either walk up the stairs or up the ramp. My dog was reunited with his sister at this park during our visit :). The last time they saw each other was at 8 weeks old, before they were separated at the shelter to get adopted out. Photos are from December 30th. Grass was plenty and very green. Some muddy slippery areas after rain, so just watch your step.

Paws Park in Buellton is literally the best dog park we have ever visited! We made a couple of minor wrong turns in the neighborhood but found it no problem. Baby and Schatze enjoyed the Big Dog section where 6 or so dogs played nicely with zero drama. The park is huge with gentle sloping rolling hills. Plenty of fresh water, poo bags and balls to play with. It is well worth a detour to stop here... just a few minutes off the 101.

    Beautiful here!

I cannot say enough good things about this dog park! It is on a small hilltop in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood in Buellton, adjacent to Solvang's Danish village. We marveled at how green it is! A lot of dog parks are dirt, sadly, in SoCal. We were staying in Goleta, and it was only a 20-minute drive from there. If you're staying in Santa Barbara, it may be 30 mins, but it's so worth the drive! We went on a Sunday late morning and it wasn't crowded at all. There are a few benches (maybe 4) on the perimeter.

Small dog area. Cool and grassy

Coleman grsss, cool, play toys, lots of water on pebble drainage 2 side , well kept and lovely

    Get it!

This dog park served its purpose -- letting my Ava blow off some energy during my recent holiday trip up north. It was too bad that there were only 2 dogs there the first time and none other the second time, but Ava enjoyed the large field and random tennis balls left around. Both times the entrance gate was locked, even though my visits were during the posted park-open daylight hours. However, the back service gate to the large-dog area was open. The terrain is rocks and some grass, speckled with occasional doggie poop. I guess the regulars here don't clean up after their animals, or perhaps the park is abandoned. This park was built by the Marriott hotel chain. I'm suspecting that with Mitt Romney on their board now, Marriott wanted to make up for that unfortunate dog-on-the-roof incident by providing a dog park, and perhaps also make up for charging $100+ extra for having a pet stay in one of their hotel rooms. (Note -- I did not stay at the local Marriott, but a Quality Inn a few blocks away on this trip -- see my review of them for a recommended, dog-friendly, inexpensive local hotel)

This gorgeous park is a 10. Our golden retriever is loving the clean green grass and fresh water. We are loving the nice benches and beautiful setting. A little off the beaten track but super close to Ave of the Flags.

Really pretty dog park! It's tucked in the back around a residential neighborhood but, you can tell so much love went into making it come to life. It's so well put together and in such a beautiful setting. Very larger fenced in areas for the dogs, benches, trees, toys that people have donated to stay there... we will definitely be going back!

A well maintained dog park with great views. A section for the little guys and the big. Was glad we stoped by today.

Beautiful dog park! We're in Solvang from out of town with our dog and this was a great spot for him to run around and get the wiggles out.

I really had a blast checking out all the decor and elements at this park! It fits right into Solvang's Danish theme! By the way, Solvang translates to "Sunny Field(s)". If you are in downtown, it would be better to drive to this park. It's not in the main touristy area of Solvang. We drove out to the park since it's about 3 miles away. There is free parking, playground, picnic areas, sports fields, walking path, & restrooms. This park is unique! I planned to come see it for myself when I came to Solvang on Jan. 17, 2026. Every aspect from the entrance sign to the playground is filled with Danish decor! I was intrigued with the mosaic clock tower out front and the embedded elements in the walkway. The playground is awesome! You walk through the windmill to the slightly raised decking. I checked out the neat painted wood panels, each with cutouts for your face or body. Photo Op time! There's a castle with towers, slides, tire swings and regular swings, rubber rope to walk across, rock climbing wall, monkey bars, rings, and more! More specific Danish themed items at this park are a Gingerbread House, Puppet Theater and Viking Ship. They're so cool! There's also a Tot Lot for 2-5 year olds and adult supervision is required. The play houses and a wagon for climbing are in this area. It also has spring ride-on animals and 3 baby swings. There's a picnic shelter with a Santa Maria style grill. It's perfect for grilling lots of food for a large group! The restrooms are just beyond this picnic shelter. They are each accessed by their own door. I prefer this style rather than the multi-stall restroom. Whether or not you are a kid, kid at heart, have kids, or have kids with kids... come check it out! I think you'll be happy you did!

No. But it was pleasant and super easy, with free parking and zero crowd. We'd be lucky to have a beach like it in L.A. The sand wasn't especially nice, I guess, coarse and rocky and full of ocean debris. There was also a water quality advisory out for the day we went, which we only discovered once we had all our stuff set up. Otherwise, though, I have no complaints. The view was beautiful, and we were able to claim a prime spot to put down our friends' massive cabana. We brought chairs and beach toys and spent the afternoon relaxing, as all five kids in our crew were thoroughly entertained. My older boy even enjoyed the rockiness of the beach, collecting several interesting rocks that he requested to take home (we let him pick two). If you're looking for a quiet beach to lay out and entertain children, Goleta Beach is a great option. We had a lot of fun here and would be happy to go back for more rocks and sun.

There might be some renovations going on; there were chain link fences everywhere -- starting from just right of The Ellwood down a bit. The fences made my walk a little more challenging to navigate and a little less scenic, but hopefully they are temporary. I'm happy I stopped, but know for the future to come prepared with anything I might need (e.g. there isn't a coffee shop nearby, so if I want a cup of tea for my walk, come with it.) Since I'm not from the area, I found it a little random to get to, but can see that it's closeby to the airport, the campus, etc. And it has a pier! 2025: 30/100

The name really says it all- it's an open space. It's gated which is really nice, since I love being able to have my pup off leash. This area is very spacious, which is great for all dogs with different kinds of personalities to all be in one enclosed space. For instance, one side could be filled with the Golden Girls and their little, slightly territorial dogs, while the other is filled with large dogs playing fetch with their humans. I love this place better than any other dog park. I forget the name of the dog park that's a little ways away, but I absolutely despise that place (my review is on my profile). The dogs here are typically really friendly towards other dogs and people! The reason why I gave this space 4/5 stars is because the up-keep on it is minimal/nonexistent. I don't think anyone does any sort of maintenance, but I don't blame them (it's a collective action problem). It kind of sucks when it rains out, because it gets soooo muddy in my opinion. However, the dogs probably don't mind the mud AT ALL.
