One of the coolest Viking fairy tale parks you'll see! This is such a nice park full of Danish attributes! It was built in 2003. I really had a blast checking out all the decor and elements at this park! It fits right into Solvang's Danish theme! By the way, Solvang translates to "Sunny Field(s)". If you are in downtown, it would be better to drive to this park. It's not in the main touristy area of Solvang. We drove out to the park since it's about 3 miles away. There is free parking, playground, picnic areas, sports fields, walking path, & restrooms. This park is unique! I planned to come see it for myself when I came to Solvang on Jan. 17, 2026. Every aspect from the entrance sign to the playground is filled with Danish decor! I was intrigued with the mosaic clock tower out front and the embedded elements in the walkway. The playground is awesome! You walk through the windmill to the slightly raised decking. I checked out the neat painted wood panels, each with cutouts for your face or body. Photo Op time! There's a castle with towers, slides, tire swings and regular swings, rubber rope to walk across, rock climbing wall, monkey bars, rings, and more! More specific Danish themed items at this park are a Gingerbread House, Puppet Theater and Viking Ship. They're so cool! There's also a Tot Lot for 2-5 year olds and adult supervision is required. The play houses and a wagon for climbing are in this area. It also has spring ride-on animals and 3 baby swings. There's a picnic shelter with a Santa Maria style grill. It's perfect for grilling lots of food for a large group! The restrooms are just beyond this picnic shelter. They are each accessed by their own door. I prefer this style rather than the multi-stall restroom. Whether or not you are a kid, kid at heart, have kids, or have kids with kids... come check it out! We needed some play time for the kiddos while visiting solvang so we chose this park. It's cute, very on theme with solvang. There's bench's for the adults to sit while the kids play and there shade. Would visit again when in the area! read more

Cute playground but maybe not well planned out. The slides end very high off the ground, I was worried my son would drop out very quickly but I should have worried about the static he would generate going down the slide. There is a balance rope that was fun to walk across. There's also a wide "tarp" bridge that my son was laying on while my husband bounced him. I don't think that's how its supposed to be used. The rest of the playground consisted of different paths to travel throughout the castle with different photo op areas. The swings were pretty high too. There were spider webs everywhere and I didn't feel comfortable just letting my son play without following him everywhere. I was told the bathroom was very clean and there was a changing table in it. I didn't go in myself but it was good to know. There is limited cell reception at the park if you go down the road you will lose signal so download an offline map if you are on a road trip. read more

This was a neat park for little one to visit after a day of walking the tourist area. It has wooden structures to climb that carry on the town's theme like towers & a Viking ship. It's gives a whimsical, fairytale feel. It also has other equipment like different swings & slides. There were a lot of spider webs all over though. The ground cover is wood chips. The park has a big parking lot, picnic tables, a covered bbq area, restroom facilities, tree shade, garbage cans, & seating. There is also a softball field. read more

Visually this park looks cute but 2 min into our visit I saw a little boy taking wee on the play structure. My husband also noticed a large brown spider in one of the tunnel areas. It was pretty busy when we went. People were having parties, so it seems to be a great place for that. read more

My daughter loved this park! Super cute idea however I have some complaints. 1. Spider webs EVERYWHERE. Which like dug outside but also not fun. 2. Blind spots. A very well-maintained park in the middle of all the farmlands in Solvang/Ballard area. Not sure if it's because we came on a weekday, but the place was practically empty, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. There isn't a whole lot of stuff here, but it has a very cool kids playground designed with Scandinavian theme (castles and viking ship). It also has nice picnic areas with large BBQ grills, baseball field, and three volleyball courts. The restrooms are also very clean, probably the cleanest public restrooms I've ever seen. I'll have to see how this place looks on weekends, but it was very peaceful and serene when we were here yesterday (Thursday). Parking is free, and there were plenty of empty spots when we arrived. read more

This place is heaven for kids under age 5ish or so. There's not much for children older than that in the playground but there is a large field where they can play soccer and baseball. An online site says the following about Sunny Fields Park: The main attraction at is a huge, custom-built wooden castle playground featuring slides, tire swings and little houses for hide and seek. This is one of my favorite places to take my kids! There is plenty of parking which relieves my stress. Nothing like kids ready to play and no where to park. Eek! The playground has two main areas; one for toddlers and one for anyone else. I appreciated the toddler area when my kids were younger because it didn't have the older kids running around and was more mellow. Both playgrounds have beautiful play structures that activates kids' imaginations and let's them explore in a fun way. There is also a tire swing and swing set. There is a shaded area for those really hot, sunny days. I do have to add in that the restrooms are always clean when we go (which shouldn't surprise me with how clean the playground is). This is like the five star version of Kids World in Santa Barbara. read more

This place is a fun spot for everyone to enjoy. You can take a nice walk on the field or play hide and seek with your kids. My kids ran around the area for about an hour and enjoyed every moment. This is our "go to" park when we visit Solvang. My kids love the park's enchanting vibe. As "Solvang" literally translates to "Sunny Fields" in Danish, playing in the park evokes the feeling of being in a Hans Christian Andersen fairytale storybook. There is a shaded area which houses a relatively large picnic area, and several smaller tables that are not shaded. There is a separate area for toddlers to play, and the swings for the bigger kids are quite high up from the ground, even for an adult. What I don't like are the wood chips scattered throughout as I have stabbed my foot with a splinter in the past. If your child is wearing sandals, be very careful. The park is always halfway full, but not crowded. The bathrooms are clean. My son says this is the "best park in the world" so we will be returning for sure. I have seen a couple of dogs here in past visits, there is not that much room for them to run about. Such a sweet experience for the young and young at heart. read more

This park is smaller than Hans Christian Andersen park for sure, but it's totally different so gotta try both. I brought my 12 and 10 year olds here to play. It's a magical fairytale theme and they loved it. There's a little kids area next to that too. There was a summer camp out on the field and a family playing baseball in the baseball area. The restrooms are nice and ample parking with picnic tables covered. The park is fairly new being founded in 2003. read more

This is a great outdoor park for kids and adults alike! There is a toddler section for kids 2-5 YO with make believe houses and smaller swings and slides and a bigger kid section with more climbing and swinging equipment. Some of the swings can even fit a small adult ie me haha. It was well kept and clean and had some tables on the side if you wanted to bring your own food. I wouldn't understand a rating less than 5 stars. What an utterly amazing park for all walking ages. A maze of wonder and you never know what's around the corner. Wish we lived nearby so we could throw our bday parties and get togethers here- although, for the little ones you will constantly be on your feet and climbing because there is so much to do and see and a lot of corners and blocking walls. From a small theater, to a gingerbread house, to a peek-a-boo wall maze to numerous handlebars and sections to let your child's imagination run wild- hands down a 5 star park. Parking is also easy and there are smartly located benches and stone picnic tables and other areas to sit and rest. The bathrooms were also fairly clean and there's a pretty nice view in every direction you look here. Tourist here. We went on a crowdless Thursday afternoon and it felt like we stumbled upon a hidden gem. It's a 3-5 minute drive out of the city center and worth the side trip if youre looking for the kiddos (park seems catered to 3-12yo) to have an hour of fun while the adults take a break and have snacks at the picnic table or benches. The park structure is beautifully decorated like a Danish castle, has lots of places to run/crawl around, and does not have much sun shade. It's a great community park for both locals and tourists! read more

This is one of the nicest, well-maintained parks I have ever been to. I visited Solvang to spectate a quidditch tournament that some friends were playing in. The grass was soft, not at all overgrown, and the ground was flat - a good location to come to play sports! There is also a barbecue area (alcohol is allowed only in this space), a cute playground, clean bathrooms, a water fountain, a picnic area, and some doggy bags for people to pick up after pets. Even though there were a lot of people in the park (over 80 just for quidditch), it didn't feel crowded at all. There is a ton of space and I would definitely come back just to enjoy an afternoon picnic and hang out. read more

The pictures make it look much better than it is. It is an interesting playground with mazes, turrets and castle like appearance. However, this playground is old, outdated and doesn't look like it is up to safety codes. I was a preschool teacher. The toddler slide is very cracked and ends up higher off the ground than most toddler slides. A lot of parent supervision is absolutely necessary for safety reasons. Our 2 year old fell off the soft rubber bridge because the hand railings are too high for toddlers to comfortably reach, and the sides are completely open. We were right there next to her and couldn't catch her in time. The older kids playground is also unsafe as the slides are tube slides and very dark inside, plus one slide is very short and ends up close to 2 ft off the ground. Both me and my 2 year old who I had on my lap, holding her legs up so as not to get caught under my legs, were dumped out of the slide and we hit the ground hard with a lot of force. The slide is very slippery and you slide fast. There are no warning signs. I hurt my back and ribs. There is a sign on the 2-5 year old playground that adult supervision is needed, but no caution signs on the older kids playground. The swings are fine. There are two handicap swings and some baby swings. The structures need painting, and major renovation to make them more safe. I would never go there again with young children. We had a 2 year old and almost 4 year old with us. Beware! Make sure you are right next to your child unless they are much older. read more

Nice park with clean bathrooms and clean eating areas. However, this park has a major hornet problem. You can not eat without getting bothered by them. They swarmed to our chicken noodle soup. This is an amazing park, lots of play structures that are for different ages plus big open fields for whatever you want to do plus baseball area and sand volleyball courts. I would just like it a lot better if the park either restricted dogs or posted that dogs should be on a leash only. During our visit there were a number of dogs with their owners who were leash free and the dogs were running around the play area freely. There are some people, some children, who don't like dogs and that includes my granddaughters so I know how intimidated children can be by dogs. (And yes, their parents have worked hard to help the girls overcome this fear. And no, their parents are not afraid of dogs.) read more
