I booked 2 day trips with him and it was the absolute worst bowfishing trip I've ever been on. He carried a bow on the trip and would say there's one as he was shooting at the fish then would say oh you didn't see that one? You've gotta pay attention. This was NOT a one time occurrence. He did this over and over. I said: I didn't realize that I was paying for you to fish too. His response was and I quote " well y'all can't shoot so someone has to" At the end of the trip I did pay him the amount I owed but intentionally did not include a tip Since we only shot a couple fish in 2 days. He was mad that I didn't include a tip and said that most people include a tip. I said most guides provide a good and successful service and you did not. He cussed at me and left. I've been bowfishing numerous times in numerous places and this BY FAR the WORST guide I've ever been with. He will 100% ruin what is supposed to be a good time.

We arrived in Killeen at about 9:30pm and there sitting on the dock was a man with a mustache and his dog, Ivy. Didn't seem like a guy who knew what he was up to, but soon after we took off, Marty AND his dog proved themselves to be invaluable. We had a blast and having Marty as our guide just made our time even more worthwhile. Great sense of humor, knowledgeable and very helpful even though we managed to break about 3 or 4 arrow tips in one night and tangle the line 321424 times. His sidekick Ivy was ready to help hold down the gars as soon as they came on the boat. He had no sense of time and it was well past 1:30 in the morning before we noticed the time and headed back to shore. Only negative comment was we didn't land the big ones, but that's not Marty's fault, just our incompetent handling of the bow. Definitely will go back again soon. What an adventure.

This road extends for a number of miles. They even have signs advertising an AM radio station that plays Christmas music that you can tune into. The quantity and quality of the lights completely astounded me, and the atmosphere they created was incredible. The price of admission, which is only twelve dollars per vehicle and not per person, is actually quite affordable. They did in fact have a "Santa's Village," but it was closed when we went there, so we couldn't eat there or take our children on the ride.

There are many streams just waiting for some rain to fill them including a wonderful "wash pond". You have to walk the "Lost Trail" located in the area recently reopened after the flooding of the Leon River. It is beautiful with many trees, creeks waiting for rain and trails that tie into it. They also have great camping sites, really nice bathrooms, many picnic tables under trees and many other things to enjoy and explore. I have been to other State Parks and they all have something different to offer, but this one is my favorite. Whether you are there for the day or over night, I think you will really enjoy your time here. There is also some wonderful history here and I think that makes it more special.

As a former Army Instructor and martial arts instructor, I know some qualities about this position. Jim has them all. He keeps his classes to a very manageable size so he can give each participant the individual attention to improve their skills. Information is presented in a way that each student can understand, through a verbal, and visual presentation of the material. His understanding of the profession and past experiences has given him a wealth of knowledge to share. Just the verbal knowledge he presents can improve any shooter, but the hands on experience is great. I watched throughout the day as my son vastly improved his shooting, and he was already a decent shooter. I would recommend that any shooter, new or advanced, participate in one of his courses.
