I was hesitant to book a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Camarillo because of the poor reviews it's received in the past. However, my gf and I had a pleasant time there! Check in was quick and easy. The front desk receptionist, who I assume was fairly new, was really nice! I requested a late check out and she gave us an extra hour which was super helpful after a long day before our departure. Later that night, the water machine had to be refilled and she offered us 2 free water bottles instead of having us wait. Really nice! The jacuzzi was a pleasant surprise. The room was clean and VERY spacious... the pillows were also comfortable! One thing I would recommend they do is, ensure that the alarm clocks are reset/turned off before a new guest checks in. The alarm did wake us up at around 7 am, we never set it! The housekeepers and the staff were also very nice :) The breakfast was a hit as well! They had plenty of options AND a cool pancake machine! Lastly, I want to shout them out for having a non dairy milk option. I have never seen that at any other hotel, so I'm also upset given I'm allergic to milk. That was great! ROOM: I got a double queen room and it was very spacious. The beds were clean and comfortable. The room including the bathroom was clean. The room did not have an odd or strong chemical smell. The room came with a TV, coffee maker, safe, mini fridge and microwave; all in working conditions. Water pressure was great. The only complaint was in another room that we got moved to - because we decided to extend last minute, some of the usb outlets were not working. Other than that, the room fit all our needs for our trip. The amenities include a pool, hot tub, breakfast, wifi, gym and a guest laundry. They do sell some OTC medications, snacks and microwaveable foods next to the front desk and they call it "the market". Very convenient. SERVICE: The service is what led me to give a 5 star. The room itself would have been a 3-4 star but the service was great. This branch had amazing staff who greeted you with a smile from the lobby, breakfast bar or just simply in the hallways. We felt so welcomed which made the experience even better. The front desk agents were knowledgeable and super accommodating to our questions or requests. The staff that helps prep the breakfast bar were so attentive and was even willing to wait after we're done with our plates. Quick service with refills and clean up. Just top notch service. Overall, the service at this place set a standard for other similar hotels or other Holiday Inn hotels. Plenty of parking in a well lit lot. The amenities and the room were reasonable for the price. Stayed here for 1 night with my boyfriend during a road trip up north! Staff was LOVELY, specifically the young lady at the front desk who was wearing a fanny pack. You get what you pay for. On Priceline this location is listed as a 2-2.5 star hotel. And it was just that. The Good Everyone was extremely friendly. From the front desk to the breakfast people and housekeepers, all super nice, big smiles and came off genuinely happy to help with whatever we needed. The breakfast was packed out which is normally a good sign. There is a beautiful little area outside with tables and chairs so it you want to eat amongst the flowers and enjoy the weather you can do that (I'll post pictures of the spot I'm referring to). The price! This was a last minute booking, we needed something close to the beach without close to the beach prices. This hit the spot for use. Two queen bed suite with a pull out bed couch, about 450 square feet, for like $200! Yes please!" The bad The hotel room it self was not the best... I went to use the pull out couch bed and was greeted by what felt like the first mattress ever made. Fabric and springs only... the bedding for the same mattress had a good size yellow stain right in the middle. Use your imagination as to what it could have been... The queen beds were ok but just not as comfortable as other places. Then there was the bathroom... the pictures I posted tell their own story but there was a bit of everything. Unfinished corners, nasty spots between the wallpaper and paint and.. above the door mold. I'm 6'6 so most wouldn't catch it but I did first thing. Major Complaint: When I checked into my room, poop from the previous guest was still splattered in the toilet. I called the front desk, and they sent someone up to clean it within 15 minutes, but I am not very confident in how well they cleaned the room. Poop splatters in the toilet is a pretty big thing to miss. Minor Complaints: The hallway had a funky odor. Luckily, the hallway odor did not seep into the room. Gave them a second chance, will not be a third. When I arrived Ruby saw me entering the lobby and did not attempt to greet or acknowledge me. She went around the front desk to go tell someone else to make fresh coffee. I stood at the check in desk for a few minutes. Only when she returned and stood in front of the computer did she greet me. We arrived around 340 and when she asked for my ID and card she let me know that the rooms weren't ready. I told her that check in was at 3 and didn't understand why rooms weren't available. She looked at me and smirked that they'd had a lot of check ins that day. I informed her that was an issue she should notify her staffing manager about but as a client that shouldn't interfere with my stay. We waited almost 45 mins for rooms to be available. Ruby did not offer any kind of compensation or sincere apology to our party. It was as if she didn't care because, just like when we met her last year. She did not offer to ask management if they could do anything for us, or comp the two sodas we purchased while we waited. Upon entering the bathroom had a smell but as we were late to meet family we rushed to get ready and head out. When we got back from dinner it was maybe 830 and as we were there for a funeral we all got busy with finalizing what we needed for the following day. When I finally wanted to go to bed at 1130 I turned off the TV and heard a tick tick tick non stop coming from the AC unit. I attempted to call front desk but the phone didn't work. In addition to the large in room lamp. I was so annoyed at the service I didn't bother making a fuss over the lap upon check in. But the ac we didn't notice being so noisy. So at 1130 I went to the front desk where Randy was friendly and greeted me. He was able to provide me ear plus which helped and offered to change my room but as we had adjoining rooms I declined. On this visit we booked a total of 3 rooms, my uncles was separate as he's a veteran and needed a handicap room. The next morning we were rushing to get ready to check out and head to the funeral we were there for. The sewage in room 129 got backed up. We were so irate with the indifference from Ruby the day before that we just cleaned it up and left. The rooms weren't all that clean when we arrived we assumed it was because they rushed to complete them and check us in. The hall permeated with the smell of fabuloso upon check in and now we think it had to do with sewage. The halls after 4 were filled with carts the images posted of the two carts are after we got to our rooms and were heading to dinner. I don't comprehend how this hotel can claim to be high volume and busy yet not meet minimal expectations like a timely check in. My bathroom still had hair in the sink and then one next door that backed up had to have had issues prior to us checking in. We agreed that next time we're better off spending more and staying at the fairview hotel.... this holiday inn reminded me of staying at a motel. read more

Booked a quick 1 night stay with the family to wrap up the summer. I really appreciate how this specific hotel offers accommodation for larger families, I don't know why more hotels aren't as accommodating but it was just what we needed. Reserved a suite room for 6 guests. The clerk was very sweet and we were promptly checked in. The room was very clean. I'm a stickler for hotel shower and faucet fixtures, and I was pleased that these ones didn't suck. We enjoyed the refreshing swimming pool and were also especially grateful for the hot tub as well. The breakfast was one of the best I've had. Eggs, cinnamon rolls, potatoes, sausage, they truly have something for everyone. Can't say enough good things about our stay and I'm very grateful to management and staff for making our family "end of summer" trip a memorable one in the most pleasant way possible. A hotel for people on the go. We booked a night here with IHG points and the cost in points was somewhat reasonable. The room was very spacious and had two queen size beds. Amenities included a mini fridge, microwave, desk, TV, safe, and a reading chair. There were ample power outlets and USB charging ports, and the free WiFi was stable but slow. The room had updated decor and modern touches, though parts of it still looked dated/worn - for instance, the doors would stick. The main negatives were the noise and the smell. The hotel is about 200 feet from the 101 freeway, so there's constant traffic noise. And the air conditioner in the room made a whining sound that was even more annoying than the traffic. At least we were able to turn off the unit. And both the room and the hallway had a strong chemical cleaner smell. The hotel has a good amount of amenities including a laundry room, fitness center, and a pool. The fitness center is fairly basic and has 3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, a stationary bike, and free weights up to 50 pounds. In the morning, there's a basic continental breakfast including scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, veggie omelets, turkey sausage, English muffins, Yoplait yogurt, bananas, juice, milk, and coffee. No potatoes. Nothing spectacular here, but at least it's free. The highway location seems par for the course. Camarillo has several other hotels and they all seem to be right off the 101. Overall though, I have to give this place 2.5 stars. This is not a bad place to stay, but it could be better. read more

Convenient hotel close to univ of channel islands. Stayed here as we had a conference. Comfortable beds, clean very spacious rooms. Breakfast was same for the 2 days we stayed but it kept us full till kunch time. Breakfast area was a bit small and it did get crowded. Costa's coffee was great. Breakfast staff were helpful and polite. Cleaning staff were helpful in giving us a change in bath towels only. Close to the freeway and ample parking available. The only thing I noticed was on our second day water wasnt too hot just warm. Since it was too late for us we managed. This is a nice, clean hotel just off the 101 highway in Camarillo, CA. It's a great place to stop if you're driving on the 101 highway for a road trip, business or just visiting the area. The included breakfast is quite good and has eggs, potatoes, turkey sausage, oatmeal, etc. However, the seating area is small and can get crowded at popular times. The room itself is very clean and everything is well maintained. The staff are very nice but they need more people at the front desk as it took me a long time to check in and when I needed my keys fixed (they suddenly stopped working). There is definitely some highway noise, but it's not horrible unless you're an extremely light sleeper. Also, there isn't really anything within walking distance near the hotel (shopping, restaurants, etc) so you definitely need to get out and drive to any restaurants or shopping (I recommend going to the Camarillo Outlets which have a lot of shopping and restaurants and it's about an 8 minute drive from the hotel). Overall, great clean place to stay in Camarillo and would stay again if I'm in the area. read more

I stayed here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We got a nice room with a balcony facing the boats. The room looked clean, but it smelled like farts when I first open the door. The outside was clean too, but I did notice that there were spider webs all over. The landscaping was very well maintained. The elevator did sound funny, but it worked taking you up and down. The hotel is in a very great location. I will probably stay here again. Next time I will make sure to bring air freshener for the fart smells. The staff was very friendly. My neighbor wasn't so neighborly. I could hear them talking loudly and playing their music at night. Overall, I give them 4 stars, minus one for the fart smell. Boy was I suprised here! I normally shy away from IHG's and Holiday Inns, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this one was. The rooms are SPACIOUSS. I felt like I was ina luxury suite. Everything worked as it should, and it was clean. I also loved the modern, minimalist decor. This is what basically sold me. The front desk has a solid assortment of snacks to buy . Breakfast was hot, free, and delicious. SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The breakfast folks were soo nice and kind, s/o to them. Also, the front lobby is just a super nice to be in. It feels clean and homey. Normally I would take my food up to my room, but this time I just ate downstairs. So pretty! One little trivial note is that the TVs are not smart TVs, but I enjoyed the cable TV a lot. This place has definitely changed my mind about IHG Hotels and HI too. From check-in greeting to check -out, I felt like I was in the way of everyone doing their daily tasks versus a guest. Fairly typical HIE amenities, otherwise. My room had a noisy HVAC fan - one almost needed ear plugs if you wanted to sleep and have a pleasant temperature at night. It sounded like a diesel truck was parked outside my window all night. Couldn't even get the fan to turn off! When I asked to change rooms, they assured me they could fix it. Uh, nope. They never showed up to try. Good thing I travel with ear plugs. All doors (room and exterior) require a good tug to open. Otherwise, it was a clean room. Housekeeping comes once every three days -- and the one day they come, I come back to find water all over the floor! What the heck happened to the empty fridge while I was gone? My guess is housekeeping unplugged it and the "freezer" ice defrosted and spilled out of the overflow pan. Plenty of parking to the rear of the hotel only. There is one restaurant (sit-down or take-out) in the vicinity and it is next to another hotel. The Camarillo Outlet Mall and surrounding area is the place to go for food and drink -- two exits up US-101. Extremely disappointed. You've been warned. read more

There is USB outlets for all your gadgets to charge. The service was quick and easy for check in which was nice because who likes to wait forever when checking into a hotel. Service came with breakfast in the am with the typical food and was very much appreciated! The bathroom was comfortable and large enough to not feel cramped. They had everything you might need to get ready like hair dryer, ironing board and a coffee machine if you need one before getting downstairs. I can't say that Camarillo is a "destination" since there is not much to see. Perhaps if you are traveling here to shop at the Camarillo Outlets or are doing a PCH trip from Malibu. There are several other hotels in the area, from low to high pricing, but this Holiday Inn Express had the best reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. I spent the night with my sister here while she visited for a work trip and it was a comfortable stay overall. Our room was clean and spacious with everything we needed. The air conditioner worked well and was a must given the high summer temperatures. The beds were comfortable with bleach-white sheets and had three soft and one firm pillows each. The room's decor was pleasant and recently updated and modern (minus a horrible blue painted kitchen space). There was a reading nook, desk with an awesome dimmable lamp which had international plugs and USB chargers for all your gadgets, a flat-screen TV, microwave, mini fridge and coffee machine. Wi-Fi was quite quick allowing me to get some work done. The room was stocked with all the necessities. Lastly, while I didn't take advantage of it, there was complimentary hot breakfast available downstairs, a workout room (best place to fill up your water bottle) and an outdoor pool (which you access from outside--it is not connected to the hotel directly). My only complaints were: - The bathroom fan was extremely loud, yet did take care of the humidity from the shower so I didn't see any mold. Also the door opens the wrong direction so it is in the way of the toilet and shower making it tricky for more than one person to get ready at the same time. - The exterior walls were pretty thin so we could hear people talking in the parking lot and trailer homes across the way. Thankfully we weren't facing the freeway (other reviewers complained about the traffic noise). - Whoever thought that bright blue paint on the walls of the kitchenette was a good idea needs to reconsider their choices. - I unfortunately left my toiletry tote in the bathroom. I called immediately and the front desk staff said they would notify the cleaners. Sadly, I still have not received a call back. While I'd love to have it back, there wasn't anything of value in it. Upon arrival the receptionist was very polite but there was miscommunication about how many nights we were staying since they didn't have two bed rooms, I was suppose to stay two nights and she confirmed it was two nights. Later the next day I got a call saying they took out our stuff because it only showed 1 night and they were fully booked the next night. I went to pick up my belongings just so they can say nothing was reported. My clothes, charger , and belongings of my coworker gone. No one could find it and no one knew anything. I travel a lot for work and pleasure so what worries me is how easy things can get lost and everyone turns a blind eye. I've been staying at different hotels for work and personal. This is the second time I stay at this one, but the worst hotel experience I've ever had. First, the faucet in the bathroom is operated by sensor, which is the stupidest faucet I've ever seen. This is super inconvenient. Whoever did this should fix it. This is not for bathroom!!!! Second, they called the room phone at 11:17 PM while I was sleeping, saying there's a Doordash McDonald's delivery for me. WTH! You shouldn't disturb your customer during bedtime unless it's emergency. If someone order food delivery, they would need their cell phone for it. You shouldn't call their room for it. For the life of me I can not figure out why this place is rated with so little stars. From the moment I checked in I have had nothing but an exceptional experience. It's the check in process was very pleasant and the young woman that helped me was so kind explanation quite I wish I would have caught her name. I got a pretty good rate for one night which I would gladly pay again. My Room is very well kept and was very cool and clean when I entered. The air conditioner kicks butt and that makes me very happy! The grounds are well maintained And I did not struggle to find parking. The breakfast area looks very nice and I can't wait to see what the morning brings.They have a very nice little area where you can buy snacks in anything indeed and also ask the desk for anything you forgot. Stocks are awesome your Room comes with a microwave and Mini fridge. My bathroom was clean and has a very well lit mirror. There is also a full length mirror in my room. The pool area is very nice and the gym looked very nice as well. We enjoyed some time in the hot tub and there are towels for you at the pool area. This hotel is one of those "You get what you pay for" experiences. Although I don't fully regret booking this hotel, it was cheap but quite a drive to get to Ojai, which we planned our vacation accordingly. Camarrillo is a good 30 minute drive to Ojai, so it wasn't convenient at all. The rooms are decent aside from the bright blue paint when you enter the room, tiny bathrooms, and the pool is located in a weird part of the hotel, in the back near the parking lot. The good thing is, no one really utilizes the pool so we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. Now on to the most important part... the continental breakfast. Ehhh not impressed. They had scrambled eggs, pre-made omelletes, turkey patties that had a strange after taste, oatmeal, yogurt, bagels, toast and what was probaby their best part of their spread... cinnabons. I probably wouldn't stay here again to be honest, our stay was supposed to be Thursday through Sunday but we ended up leaving on Saturday. Yelp 100 Challenge 2018 - # 39/100 As per my tip, the address on Yelp for Holiday Inn Express Camarillo takes you to a closed down hotel. Luckily I was able to pull up the right address from my confirmation email from the third party I booked with. It's good if there are two of you then one can be let off at the driveway so you can start with registration process, while the other finds parking at the back of the hotel. Or you can park on the street first and walk up like I did. When I entered the front of the hotel, the floors were shiny and just exuded a bright and clean feel. Registration was completed in a fairly short time. Was given a room on the third floor (they have only 3 floors). The room was nice. I had the view of the parking lot. Yay I get to check on my car lol. The bed was super comfy. To me that's the most important thing. There's microwave, ref, and coffeemaker- it was Keurig with Dietrich coffee pods. There was a sign saying they are under renovation and construction is from 8-5. I didn't hear any loud noises though and that was a great thing. read more

I'm not sure who to talk to so it makes a difference. First stay here in December 2019: Positive: Price Breakfast was good. Hot breakfast. I enjoyed the eggs, sausages and coffee. Motion sensor faucet Large room (probably about 400+ sq. ft.) TV worked I was impressed with the bathroom with higher quality soap which is why I booked another stay. Negative: The "business center" is no more than 2 desktop computers. One computer took 15 minutes to start. Printer was out of ink and paper. Sucks! I could not print my paper for the next day. This is not a "business center". Found hair in the bathroom and the sink No salt and pepper packets. I had to go downstairs and get that from the salt and pepper shaker Second stay (January 2020) Staying here second time and I found hair tonight on the bed. Ugh. I've had a similar problem at the Marriott. I was okay the first time staying at the Holiday Inn but I found hair in the bathroom. But second time, am I that unfortunate or fortunate? Rate is good but finding hair (on the floor, on towels, on sink) anywhere in a room that is supposed to be clean is unappealing. Tonight, I also found a stain which looks like blood on the sheet at the edge of the bed. I am on the second floor so I can hear people on the third floor. Something rumbling in the room next to me and upstairs and it is sort of annoying. Guest doors slam and make a lot of noise and walls are thin. I can hear people knocking, screaming, or talking. I'm not sure about this place. The rumbling also did not stop. Elevator is old and rickety. The blinking light outside and the unsanitary room was starting to cause some anxiety for me, so I called the front desk and I got a new room within 5 minutes. By now, it was course to quarter to 1 in the morning. Thank you. Low star rating because of cleanliness. Staff are higher rated. Room is spacious, clean, and has everything needed, including a Mini-fridge & coffee maker. Close to the Camarillo Premium Outlets. Highly recommended. Great price. Great stay. Changing from 5 stars to 3 for the following reasons: Went down to the front counter to ask a question and the employee was stand there, doing nothing, but didn't acknowledge me until I said, "Hello." And the breakfast was the most unorganized I've ever seen at any hotel. At 830-915am there was very little food available. And I'm a Platinum Elite Member for a reason - and it's not to see a nearly empty breakfast bar. See pictures: no cinnamon rolls, no eggs, no bacon/sausage, no oatmeal, etc... I have stayed at many holiday express it's my hotel of choice. Room was a little dirty no wash clothes at all. The bed was really uncomfortable which I was shoved since their beds are great. Not a 5 star, but they had available rooms. We normally stay at Marriott but the 3 we called were booked. It's clean enough, the bed was comfy, they have a gym so you can get your morning work out, and a decent free breakfast. Nice and reliable. An oasis to two sunburned, exhausted, sweaty women. read more

Nasty!!! This place is disgusting and the housekeeping people should be fired. It took 4 tries to find an acceptable room. Room 1 had feces on the toilet seat. Room 2 had dog urine on the floor in the bathroom. Room 3 belonged to someone already. Room 4 was acceptable, but my LORD!! Crappy old rickety elevator. This hotel is NOT up to the standards for Holiday Inn Express. Usually a very good clean place to stay. Hotel seems like a 30 year old pig, with some new lipstick on it, and it wasn't cheap by any stretch. Stay somewhere else. If we hadn't had a late check in we'd have found somewhere else. I'd have given it 0 stars if I could. Poor remodel. All bad. read more

Sorry to say that this hotel is disorganized and upsetting to say the least. We came here to stay for the Ventura Marathon and upon trying to check in they said that our room was not clean yet. We got here at 3 and check in is at 3. So why was our room not ready and why did we have to wait an hour for it to be cleaned? It seems that other people were waiting for their room as well in the lobby. If this is how hue treat their platinum members I don't know if I would want to stay here again. When I asked to switch to another room to one that was ready - apparently all the other ones were spoken for. However when someone else walks in without a reservation and gets a room that aggravates is even more. Nothing to compensate us for the delay - unfortunately this is the first upsetting experience I've had with a Holiday Inn and it isn't a great one. read more

Not a single member of the staff was wearing a mask when we checked in or out. I passed, or dealt with three different members of the staff during check in/check out. Really shocked and disappointed in this business practice and behavior. Will not be spending another night here. read more
