Let me preface this review by saying A) Although I have never reviewed a company / business / service on here before, I am so egregiously outraged by this cockroach infested s******* I felt it would be a disservice to mankind to NOT warn others of my experience; and B) although I gave a one-star rating, please know that I will understandably regret that decision if I find out after the fact I was actually capable of giving anything less / more deserving.
My wife and I are currently visiting the area on vacation from Phoenix and found this location to be a comfortable and safe drive from the tourist venues in neighboring Los Angeles. We called 2 weeks ahead of time to make reservations and were offered $350 for the week. Upon arriving, however, they claimed to have never spoken to us on the phone and instead offered us $575 for the week... What?!? Unfortunately, as we had just driven some 500 miles, we were unable to make arrangements anywhere else on such short notice so we accepted the overpriced rate we were extorted into-- HUGE mistake!
By the third day of our nightmarish trip, plumbing issues had arisen-- We immediately notified the front desk that our toilet was clogged and had begun to overflow. An elderly gentleman with wild white hair came up and, when my daughter answered the door, he introduced himself as Norman. He started to make a little small talk, which I thought to be a little odd, so I promptly reminded him of the issue at hand-- he immediately got extremely defensive, accusing us of having left the bathroom in a state of disrepair for several days which was the reason we had "repeatedly turned away housekeeping" (an out-and-out lie, as we had been at Universal Studios the previous two days, and not even in the room-- housekeeping had simply never bothered to come by and room ONCE thus far in our 3 day stay!) He then proceeded to claim the facility's plumbing was certainly in no way at fault, and that the cause was--unarguably, he said--that we had simply "been using too much toilet paper"-- an accusation that my wife took particular umbrage to, as it was admittedly quite rude and presumptuous...
When my wife began to defend herself and reason with him, I noticed he was still leering at our daughter. My parental instincts took over, and I asked of him--in a non-confrontational, mind you, and as best matter-of-fact manner as I could muster--what it was that he was staring at. His reply startled me: "I'm just enjoying the scenery here" ... Mind you, she is only 6 years old.
I immediately asked him to leave our room, telling him we needed privacy to deal with family issues. Glancing at her the entire time, he finally left. My wife and I hurriedly packed our things, I left the key on the bed, and we promptly packed our car and left the grounds. We called back later that night, and spoke to the other manager--this time a female--to inform her of the situation and demand a refund. She apologized for Norman's behavior, but told us as we had booked the room in advance, she would not be able to refund any of our $575 deposit...
I can't tell you what a nightmare this whole situation has caused. We ended up continuing our stay in Southern California at a nice little Motel 6 in Universal City, but the whole sordid ordeal had left such a lingering taste of disgust, that the remainder of our week-long vacation was pretty much ruined. We have contacted authorities to see if Norman is on (or perhaps needs to be placed upon) any sort of "offender list". Unfortunately, as we are returning to Arizona early tomorrow, I'm not entirely sure if we can / will be able to continue to contact and work with Oxnard Police Department to proceed in looking into and rectifying this matter. Further, to this day, we have STILL not received any refund-- and even worse, whenever we call the motel now, we are put on hold indefinitely, and none of our voicemails are ever returned... Again, just an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! Please do yourself a favor--ESPECIALLY if you have young children--and look elsewhere for a safe / comfortable place to stay!!! read more
