I was quite disappointed with this hotel. The front desk was friendly enough (hence the two stars not one). The hallway on the second floor had a musty smell. My room had wallpaper peeling off the wall, the desk chair was broken and covered with dirt and dust, and the shower was filled with cracks that looked like they were repaired by a toddler. The best part was the fan in the bathroom that couldn't be turned off so I had to listen to that the whole time. The switch had , literally, been removed. I booked through Expedia so I cant even get a refund. This place has bed bugs. Horrible experience. Friday night the fire alarm went off at 4:15am and all guests had to vacate. It was very cold outside as families tried to huddle together. Some families choose to sit in their cars. I was surprised after 15/20 min the fire department had not arrived so I made the call. There was only 1 man on duty and he was extremely flustered. Fireman said their was no fire but no one had the code to turnoff the alarm. Because I have previous hotel experience I asked the front desk employee if he had any ear plugs I could pass out to guests. He offered me his personal pair but asked if I could return them to him??? I said NO Thanks. He was busy on his phone trying to reach someone who had the code but was unsuccessful. A fireman was finally able to put the system on silent but he said it Was NOT turned off. At 6am we were told we could go back to our rooms. The next morning I asked front desk if the problem was fixed and a maintenance man said they could not find who they had a contract with to reset the code. I felt this was a very big fire hazard since now the system was on silent! Saturday night there was another incident where the front desk personal was trying to force his way into a room yelling and pounding on the door shouting he was the police. My grandaugther was very scared. The next morning I asked the front desk what the problem was and she said someone was not supposed to be in the room. I asked her why didn't he call the police, and how did someone get access to a room key! It was all very disturbing. I asked if they had security and they do not ...They also assured me of the safety of the hotel and that the back entrance was kept locked at night and the only way to come in was the front entrance. I told them that was NOT true as we parked in the back and went in and out several times during our 3 night stay and it was never locked. I was told after the Friday incident we would be credited for the disturbances. It has not happened. I heard the front desk tell mulitple people would would be credited on Monday. I did call the hotel twice and each time they assured me they would take care of it and they have not. I also called the corporate office and I was told the hotel would contact me in 24 hours and they have not. I was also told by multiple employees that they had no Manager on Duty, or no General manager at ALL. The hotel is basically run by front desk employees who basically told me they are paid minimum wage and they don't really care! Because this hotel falls under a well known name brand, I expected to get the same type of experience I get whenever I stay at a Holiday Inn Express. I felt regardless if it is a franchise, or privately owned, it still carries the hotel name and should have standards. We had the same breakfast all 4 days we there. When we checked into our room one bed had no pillows and a dirty towel was behind the bathroom door. It went from bad to worse. I am writing this review because I feel at this time they are not trying to fix any of the issues and they don't seem to be too concerned. Great stay but weird breakfast experience. Had a great stay but the gentleman that serves breakfast needs to tone it down a bit. He says good morning to everyone and asks about their day and says goodbye. It's nice to see but it's over kill. He approached us four times while we were trying to enjoy a quiet breakfast. I usually have good experiences with Holiday Inn Express, but unfortunately, this location was the worst I've stayed at so far. Here's why: The sink didn't drain properly, the shower had black stains, the computer table had oily dirty spot, and the room number tag was missing(I had to figure out my room myself). The A/C made a horrible noise, and as an IHG member, there was no greeting or acknowledgment at check-in. I brought these issues to the front desk in the morning, and the only response I received was, "Oh, okay... thank you for letting us know." At $201 a night, it's definitely not worth the price. Me and my friends went to the Burney falls and the turtle bay exploration for an overnight trip so we booked a stay here, so we don't have to drive back and forth the same day. We booked the 2 queen suite. They have complimentary breakfast, and they are pet friendly too (you pay 40$ for a dog stay) the price is reasonable for a decent place. The parking is free and they have a couple of electric charging stations. I wished I took photos but the size of the room is pretty decent. It's clean but the carpet is old and musty, that's why I had an allergy attack that night. The breakfast is meh, we got there at 8am and they were no food, only milk and cereal and the drinks were left maybe they are understaff and we're fully booked but the other staff are trying their best to refill the food. I had oatmeal, pancake and apple juice with a cup of coffee. We didn't try the indoor pool or the gym because we were tight with our schedule and wanted to drive back early to make sure we don't hit the traffic Nothing special being a platinum elite member, they just thank you for being one. But my request of a room in a higher floor near elevator was provided. We are conveniently placed where we want to be. The AC unit is a little loud and the walls are thin so you can hear a little bit from your neighbor room, the curtains on the window should probably be replaced too because it's dirty and hard to open up. Not a bad stay. And the location is great for the price it's alright. read more

A Thanksgiving holiday family visit. HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS & SUITES is centrally located in Redding -easily accessible off the freeway/convenient location. The rooms are clean and spacious, beds are comfy, and the air-conditioning is quiet and efficient. Rooms are equipped with a nice large smart television and they offer complimentary wireless internet access (although I could not connect on my computer my phone connected just fine). Extras include a small safe, good sized fridge and of course-a coffee/ Keurig tea maker. I can't forget the complimentary breakfast. Our favorite was the pet policy! If you are thinking of bringing your dog --this hotel is great choice. Pet fee is charged- up to $40.00 per day. Worth it to have your fur baby with you. Note: Service animals are exempt from fees/restrictions. The Maximum number of pets per room is 2 fur babies. Perk: Staff is friendly and welcoming. Note: Stay on the top level. TL:DR for the price that you pay to stay in a place with the Holiday Inn name, there are better options in Redding. Hotel isn't super clean and is understaffed. Breakfast is hectic- no pancakes, hot foods always run out quick, and it's clear they are understaffed (staff there is doing the best they can). Front desk does provide exceptional service but not enough to make up for other deficits. I've stayed at a number of Holiday Inns and IHG establishments including REGENT, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn Express. This review is being written at a time where a number of factors may be affecting quality including a busy holiday weekend (Thanksgiving), understaffing issues, the pandemic, and new changes to their protocol. The pros: I. The front desk deserves all the glory and if I could give them a rating no question 5/5 for service, problem solving, and multitasking. Krystal (I believe was her name) was exceptional at answering our questions, giving us clean towels, missing toiletries, refills for coffee/teas/coffee cups, problem solving, and juggling the issues experienced by other guests. She deserves a raise for her calm and professional demeanor. II. The hotel is pet friendly (for an additional fee) III. The fitness center and pool are quite nice Cons: I. Hectic hot breakfast. We were told that they just started serving hot breakfast which may be why there were so many issues. I stayed here for 3 nights and so far each breakfast morning has been crazy. It's not so much the crowd or lines (it's expected during the holiday weekend) but there is a severe lack of options and quantity of items for the guests. While breakfast is served from 6AM-9AM timing doesn't seem to matter too much as there was always a short supply of everything. The pancake machine was broken, the milk dispenser was broken, there was no juice, according to the staff the eggs were frozen for days (thus not served), they did not replenish the limited fresh fruit options (if you weren't there by 7-8 am you weren't getting any fresh fruit), there was no yogurt easily accessible, limited supplies of cereal, and the sausage that was cooked disappeared faster than a Black Friday doorbuster deal. Staff tried their best to accommodate the guests but it's clear they are being overwhelmed. We were eventually directed to a different room by the front desk where we were able to take some items like juice and yogurt. Thank you front desk! There should be signs or something posted so guest are aware. I checked on breakfast at 7 am and 8 am during my stay to see if things were being replenished but they simply couldn't keep up with the demand or number of guests. Not hot breakfast during my entire stay. II. Lack of housekeeping and cleanliness is less than desirable. Again it could have been due to the sheer volume of guests (thanksgiving weekend) but during our 3 night stay our rooms were never cleaned. We had to pick up new towels every night from the front desk (Krystal you are awesome), trash was never picked up, bed sheets were never changed, and while we had a keurig we never got new k-cups. (Again super grateful to have the front desk help us out with our toiletries and missing items). Note a number of the towels we were given were not used due to black/dark colored stains, the bed sheets and liners also had similar stains, and the shower itself had a lot of soap scum buildup (orange/pink). There was also a good number of dust found on the lighting fixtures on the headboard of the bed. A piece of dust actually fell onto my pillow... Again I don't think it's current staffing that's the primary issue, I think they're doing the best they can with the number of guests staying here. III. There was no mini fridge in our room and getting water/refilling water is a bit of a challenge. There are water fountains outside by the lobby but the fountain head ls themselves have green build up. We purchased water from a nearby store and brought it with us for the remainder of our trip. Overall, my biggest reason for the lower rated review is my personal desire to feel like the place I'm staying at is clean. While this certainly isn't the worst place regarding cleanliness, it clearly doesn't live up to my previous experiences in IHG hotels and resorts. The amazing staff at the front desk doesn't make up for these issues. I do not plan on staying here again in the future until some of these issues get resolved. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It's a Holiday inn so I didn't expect much. I also read lots of reviews. I think people get this and the Holiday Inn down the street confused. This place is pretty new. It was clean. Yes, the door handle broke on one of the side exits. We did report it. The front desk service was very good. They were super courteous. My check in was seemless and my room was ready. Room 303 was in the corner and pretty quiet. I was worried about the freeway noise but if you close the windows, you can't hear a thing. We spent 2 nights here and it was fine. The indoor pool was cold but the jacuzzi was warm. The gym was pretty good and not very busy. The stand out was their breakfast. You can make your own pancakes. They have oatmeal, toast, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage, pork sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns and omelet. Was some of it over cooked, yes. You get the same thing everyday but at least you have choices. The first day, Darryl was running the breakfast and he was phenomenal. He is a hard worker, kept the food and coffee coming. He went around and asked everyone if they needed and wished us all a happy new year as it was new years eve. Breakfast was not chaotic and there was plenty of seats. The place is so clean. 2019: During my first stay, there was dirt all of my room floor, and what seemed like dog or baby poop on the floor and bedding. 2021: My first room smelt like cat pee, and my second room had dirt all over the bedding and cracked floor tiles. 2023: My first room was dirty with what looked like crumbs all over the floor. My second room seemed fine until you looked in the shower. There was dirt in the walls and hair everywhere. The room phone in either of the rooms didn't work, and my aunt's room had mold in their shower. 4 YEARS HAVE GONE BY. with NO changes in how this place is run. Never again! Was told would receive 10% discount for AAA membership-that was a lie. Was told could not print receipt at time of check out-insisted on getting it. Finally did and was told manager would call on Monday to follow up with fire alarms going off at 4:30am forcing everyone to evacuate and wait 16 minutes for fire dept to show up and another 30 minutes to tell us the building was clear to go back in but unfortunately the hotel staff did not know how to disarm the blaring alarm and flashing lights. The fire dept was not able to disarm it either. Hotel staff informed guests they were contacting IT to see if they could disarm the alarm...really? (Saturday at 5:45am) just go back to my room and listen to this alarm?? Sat in my car because it was very cold until they finally figured out how to put it on silent just lights flashing. Back to our room to try to go back to sleep...wow fun night for us Still waiting for manager to call us regarding overcharging us and horrible night. Called corporate and opened a claim. Gross. Lifted the blanket and found a public hair. The pillowcase was white but slightly see-through and I could see some kindof hair between the pillow and pillow case. Obv didn't get changed between guests. Door wouldn't close by itself, needed to be slammed. If you walk thru and let it close behind you, it would get stuck and stay cracked open. I could muscle it closed but an elderly person probably wouldn't be able to. Latch on the inside of door was very difficult to close and super squeeky. Door obv needs to be re-aligned. Ice machine was broken Toilet paper roll was half used and they refolded the end to be fancy... not sure if this one is gross or not but for like $180 I feel like It should have been new. The gym wasn't the greatest, they did have weights but nothing smaller than a 15lb dumbell. There were a few pcs of cardio equipment - tried the elliptical and it was decent. Not having those smaller weights was annoying tho. Im a very active person and those lighter weights are what most people need. I tried going swimming after breakfast around 6:30 am but the door was locked and they said its not open. It was however open around 7pm when I went in to see how it looked I booked this place because I love the breakfast spread, its always amazing. The dude wiping tables in the breakfast area at 6:15am was super cool and was probably the highlight of the stay. He needs a raise. Also the front desk girls all seemed nice. Thankfully I brought and extra sheet and pillowcase and made it work with the nasty bed honestly for this price I probably won't be back. Ive stayed at motel 6's that were cleaner. We had a great stay. It's in a safe area, plenty of restaurants and stores to go to nearby. The staff were very helpful and nice, I spoke with Ashley and crystal, both were very helpful with a issue I was having. The rooms were clean and the beds were nice. I had some minor issues. The coffee was empty at 10 Am, nothing at all. Not a huge issue but they do talk about it being available 24 hours. The pet relief area didn't have any poop bags, so it would have been annoying had I forgotten mine. Overall it's a great stay, I'd definitely stay here again! Positive: The rooms are clean and bed comfortable. The problem is that there is zero ability to sleep here. Travelers are so rude. No one to regulate people being loud, kids running halls with parents when trying to sleep in the night. Loud music upstairs room and what sounded like thunder of constant walking back and forth. Banging constantly echoes the halls. So if you need to sleep don't stay here. It's the 2nd try. I realize it's not the hotel but society that has zero respect for others. If I could give this place a zero and call the health inspectors to shut it down, I would. On May 27th, I received a room with bed bugs. Laid my son down in a queen size to sleep, to turn on the lights to find bed bugs surrounding him. And full grown bed bugs crawling up on the side as well. I rushed out the room with my husband and son to find bites on my arm. When rushing to the front desk, there was one on my son's shirt. My heart is so broken to see we were given a room like this. And for the front desk to say "wait! I need to put it on a cup for my manager to see." There were so many evidence we had in regards of bed bugs in our room, to the point where we had to leave without our suit cases and purses. Everything we owned we had to leave behind because of the overwhelming bed bugs we started seeing everywhere. Then to be on the phone til midnight just fighting for a refund. On May 29th I callled for the manager Shirley Tillman, she started lying to me that there wasn't evidence. And tried to use reverse psychology on me, to try to make me think it was my fault and to hang up on me. This broke me down to tears, she didn't even acknowledge the pain and hurt they caused. Nor didn't apologize for what we went through. The front desk Tia Linsbery was there, she saw everything. She saw the bed bugs. And assisted the best she could. So I thank her. If I could I would leave no stars. Absolutely terrifying service Jill the receptionist was so rude and unprofessional. Upon check in she was rude and tossed the pen at me and gave me attitude as I checked in with my family. Was not welcoming and when we came later in the day to add a night for the next day things escalated with Jill. She refused to let us get a room in person wanted us to go through a third party and didn't want to help us. There was another employee as well a younger lady who didn't say much until a customer who was there saw everything and decided to try and help us. He told her the way she was handling the situation was very unprofessional and she was being completely rude to me when and Jill asked him to shut up and go to his room. The situation was disgusting the service was traumatizing i literally paid to be talked down to and disrespected absolutely horrible. She then charged us for another room and didn't provide us a receipt. When we asked for the receipt she got upset and was very condescending. I then had to say something to her I told her she was rude and it's her job to provide us a receipt from the transaction she charged us and she went off raising her voice saying she didn't need to do anything. She printed it and placed on the table I asked for her manger and she said we have no manager here which is absolutely bullshit. And the guy who was there states they do have a manger her name is serenity and the other employee called her. But didn't let me talk and told her there version then walks out and puts it on speaker and I explained the awful service we got and how Jill tossed the pen at me and Jill shouted I don't recall doing that. she lied in my face and Serenity asked her to walk away and get away from the desk but she didn't comply until the third time she was told to leave. Clean, shiny, super comfy. I was there with a huge group of high school mountain biking team riders, and they took excellent care of us. The breakfast buffet isn't just some shriveled Danishes in plastic wrap. No, we are talking about biscuits and sausage and gravy, two kinds of omelettes, juices, cereals, breads and a weird-ass pancake machine that I managed to miss.
