Havening techniques and other techniques have helped me (someone who defaults to over-intellectualizing) get out of my head and into my body which I've found is imperative for healing emotional trauma. With all that said I'm really here to share my experience with the Neurofeedback training done with Rebecca Turner. Having done so much healing and reprocessing through talk therapy, I still felt that my thought patterns were like a hose turned all the way up, whipping around, unable to catch, and control, soaking everyone around me. The initial brain mapping (which is done first to know what areas of the brain to target for training) reflected with tangible data what I was experiencing inside. Ms. Turner described it to me like "your two hemispheres are yelling at each other" which turned out to be one of the most validating things my brain has ever heard about itself. The neurofeedback training process itself is not as complicated and/or intimidating as the name sounds. If one is doing eyes open training, you essentially attach some small sensors to your head using a conductive goop and watch a tv show while the screen brightens and dims in response to the information collected by the sensors and neurofeedback program. For "eyes closed" training, you listen to lyric-less music while the music adjusts the volume to help train your brain. And it all works. I feel good about myself. Shame is now a passing emotion instead of a state of being. Rumination is down ten-fold as my hemispheres aren't "yelling at each other". My thoughts and feelings don't control me as much and/or send my on a downward spiral. If you are someone who feels your emotions are often become too much for you to handle that even standard therapy couldn't alone help, might I suggest neurofeedback?

But life circumstances eventually led me to Jacqui, and now I'm actually grateful for the hardships that brought me to her. She's different from any therapist I've ever worked with. Jacqui really helps you dig deeper and look at things in a more honest, meaningful way. She doesn't just tell you what you want to hear or coddle you, because that wouldn't actually help you grow. Instead, she challenges you in a supportive and thoughtful way that pushes you to understand yourself better. I had never heard of ART before and was honestly skeptical, but I was desperate and willing to try anything. Hands down, it's one of the most valuable techniques she has in her vast arsenal of tools to help her patients. Her guidance on how to manage my anxiety in between sessions is something I will carry with me for life. Working with her has been a truly valuable experience, and I'm incredibly grateful to have found her.If you're struggling with something, I really encourage you to reach out and see her. It will change your life. It certainly changed mine.

I came to Jacqui to heal my trauma, and I'm now more traumatized when leaving at the 2nd ART…read moresession due to a racist comment by Jacqui. The first ART session with Jacqui was about 2 hours, and no specific issues occurred. The 2nd session was a week later. About 30 minutes in, she noticed the ART didn't work as she expected, and her comment about the failure was due to my "language barrier," which I strongly disagree with. Even English is not my first language, I passed 2 most difficult bar exams in the States, and I've been practicing law for the past 12 years in California. Jacqui's instructions are nothing compared to the judges' instructions I have to follow for my work. Jacqui's instruction was basically "imagine your emotions being washed away by a waterfall," something simple and similar to this. However, she told me not only once during this session that the failure is because of the language barrier. She made me feel absolutely terrible, and I had to cut short the session. Eventually, Jacqui admitted that ART doesn't work for everyone but emphasized again my language barrier. We are all vulnerable already when seeking help from a therapist. Now Jacqui makes me feel even worse as this ART doesn't work mainly because of my "language barrier." If Jacqui evaluated that my language barrier is a concern or issue for this ART, she should've noticed it at the first consultation and stopped it, rather than continuing scheduling and charging me $180 per hour for the following sessions.

And the thing is, I didn't even know I needed to heal when I was first introduced to On The Hotline. After we met, I quickly found myself scrolling through her online presence wondering how I could embody more of what she championed; undeniable confidence and a complete ownership of where she was in her pursuit of self worth (within the world of dating and relationships of course). She never seemed to compromise her needs or desires and I wanted nothing more than to be able to move through my life like that, authentically happy and secure about where I was at any given moment. Dating is strange at 30. We're all ready for the right thing to happen at the perfect moment where all things seem to align, but really, I had no idea my ability to identify a healthy relationship was so warped. Before I took How to Not Suck at Dating, I was newly seeing someone that I was already highly considering as 'the one'. My biggest takeaway during the course was that I couldn't identify that this guy I was dating wasn't even close to Mr. Right. But how could I be so wrong? Through a lot of reflection and redirection, I realized (on my own terms) that I needed to leave and move on. What's more is, I walked away knowing that I didn't have to compromise my happiness and stay in a relationship that didn't feed my basic needs. Now that I'm dating out in the wild again, I find myself using my How to Not Suck at Dating tools regularly. I'm finally enjoying the process of dating and interacting with the possibility of happiness on my journey to love. Thank you On The Hotline!

Being new to the area we didn't know where to start and after a long search throughout the Pasadena area we found Westminster Center. The house which the center is based out of is extremely cozy and inviting. Each of the rooms provides a comfortable and calming setting while meeting with your counselor. To start we were paired with Katherine who is the director there and from the beginning felt an incredible amount of comfort when talking to her during our counseling sessions. After a get to know you session we each filled out a relationship survey and over the next couple of weeks worked on discussing our answers. We discussed where we agreed and disagreed on topics like communication, trust and financials just to name a few. Throughout our time at the Westminster Center we have felt welcomed, valued and respected to the fullest. The tools that we have learned to use and take with us will be of utmost importance as our marriage begins and starts to blossom. As a couple we couldn't be happier with the counseling that we have received from Katherine and the Westminster Center. I cannot recommend Westminster and specifically Katherine enough for premarital counseling or any other counseling service that is desired. As our marriage begins we know that the Westminster Center has put us on the right track and provided us with the tools and support necessary to have a fulfilling and joyful marriage.

I reached out to Ashley and we resumed our sessions that same week! It was so nice to jump right back into talking with someone who knew all the background information about my family, etc so that we could discuss what was going on right now. I had always encouraged others to do therapy, but hadn't sought it out for myself until 2021. Unlike my previous psychiatrists who would meet me for 15 minutes to glance at my chart and give me medication to try, Dr. Yang looked at everything, and I mean everything. He requested all past medical records to make a decision on which medications to suggest. He took into consideration my body's reactions to previous treatments and external factors. Had it not been for him I probably would not be alive. He met with me every two weeks for an hour, we would converse for 30 minutes, and go over medication and literature for the other half hour. He has completely honest about the pros and cons of each prescription, and if I was willing to try it. He never sugar coated anything, and I think that helped a lot. He also had a good idea on how my body would react, and he was always right. I am glad my friends helped me pay my initial consultation, and for Dr.Yang who did not turn me away but provided a payment plan for me after evaluation. We both missed each other's calls a few times. Her last call to me was Thursday, and I returned the call Tuesday. When I called, Laura immediately told me in a very condescending and dismissive tone that "that was a long time ago" and that I needed to contact Kaiser again. I completely understand if a new referral was required, and I can acknowledge that I could have called back sooner. My issue is not the policy it's the way I was spoken to. This is a recovery center. The people calling are often already struggling, hesitant, or trying to get themselves to accept help. A little compassion goes a long way. I've dealt with another treatment center where the staff were patient, welcoming, and persistent about helping someone get into treatment, so the difference was immediately noticeable. I had read several reviews describing staff as rude or condescending before calling, and unfortunately my interaction made me understand exactly what those reviewers were talking about. Based on the number of similar reviews, I'm not particularly confident this feedback will be taken into consideration. Some of the responses and experiences described honestly come across to me as more defensive than receptive to criticism. If you've had or end up having a great experience here, I genuinely hope that continues. I can only speak about my interaction, but when someone is reaching out for help with recovery, they should not be made to feel like an inconvenience for calling back. This interaction alone was enough to turn me away and look elsewhere.
